For those of you who may have missed this story earlier this year, 28-year-old Katrina Shangreaux allegedly beat her son to death after he had an accident while potty training at his grandmother’s house.
According to court documents the toddler had “multiple bruises on his body, some appeared older and some new. He also had multiple bite marks on his body and what appeared to be marks from a belt.”
Even more disturbing was the fact that the boy’s scrotum was torn and there was hair wrapped around his genitals.
Shangreaux would eventually be charged with murder and child abuse; charges she has since pleaded not guilty to. Now federal authorities have arrested Shangreaux’s mother, 47-year-old Sonya Dubray, accusing her of covering up the crime.
She allegedly washed Kylen’s clothes, cleaned up the crime scene, and lied about alleged abuse against the boy, and told authorities Kylen was already potty-trained.
“Potty training was the catalyst for the child abuse and Dubray knew the statement and representation was false,” said prosecutors.
Dubray is now facing charges of accessory to murder and tampering with evidence. If convicted, she could get 43 years in prison.
Kylen’s father, Robert Red Shirt, was already in prison serving a four-year sentence for killing his 1-year-old son back in 2015. During a fight with his girlfriend, Emmy Rouillard, Red Shirt accidentally kicked the boy in the face while the couple were arguing.
The boy would die from his injuries three weeks later and Red Shirt would plead guilty to felony child abuse and neglect. Rouillard also pleaded guilty to felony child abuse for using the child as a human shield after slapping Red Shirt and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
