I thought it would be nice to have a thread for those of us movie lovers who are fortunate enough to have Netflix. If you've seen any good movies in their Watch Instantly section please tell us about them.

Tonight I watched the 2009 remake of Romero's 1973 horror classic, The Crazies.

Netflix:
When a plane crashes in a small town, a secret biological weapon is released. As the toxic substance infiltrates the local water system, some residents become gravely ill, while others descend into homicidal madness.

I enjoyed every minute of it as it was suspenseful and intense. The gore was very minimum for those of you who are squeamish and the acting was surprisingly good.

Das Weiße Band: Eine Deutsche Kindergeschichte (The White Ribbon)

At a rural school in northern Germany in 1913, a form of ritual punishment has major consequences for students and faculty. But the practice may have bigger repercussions on the German school system -- and maybe even on the growth of fascism. Celebrated Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke helms this Golden Globe-winning, sumptuously photographed black-and-white drama that stars Susanne Lothar, Ulrich Tukur and Theo Trebs.

"Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?"

I watch alot of old movies on Netflix. This movie was very, very good. Bette Davis stole the show away from Joan Crawford as the old, half crazy jealous sister of her sister the movie star. So she sets up an accident to incapacitate her and then starts to lock her away from the world and torment her.

I completely agree Nell! I watched that movie years ago and it became one of my all-time favorite classic films! It is a must watch for anyone who loves classic horror movies!

Another good classic "re-done" on Netflix Instant is the 1984 version of A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott as Scrooge. I was surprised how good this one was and it's perfect to get ya in the mood for the Christmas movie season.

I like the old romantic comedies from the '60's, so you probably don't wanna hear about my choices! Light and fluffy is what I like! :hello:

Since me and Kerri have a lot of land between us, we occasionally watch Netflix movies together online. The last two were pretty decent. One is a documentary called CROPSEY. It details a series of Staten Island child abductions in the 1970s and 80s and the accused, a drifter named Andre Rand. It's a little long, but pretty interesting -- especially if you like the subject of urban legends. Not particularly scary, but some scenes from an old Geraldo Rivera expose will get under your skin.

The other is a horror film about mutant cows called ISOLATION. Don't let the mutant cow thing fool you, though. They play it straight. A small group of people are stuck on an isolated farm, a farm where genetic experiments have been conducted in hopes boosting bovine fertility, when one of them gives birth to a handful of mutant baby cows. It's a gory flick that's kind of like THE THING meets ALIEN...with cows.

Sure we would! If you seen something you enjoyed, you can share it with us. It doesn't matter whether it's horror, drama, or a comedy. Or how old it is. I like all kinds of movies even some of the fluffy light stuff. :hello:

I did watch The Salem Witch Trials movie last night with Kirstie Alley. I know they took alot of poetic license with that one but it was a pretty good one. Sad that all those poor women were put thru that all on the say so of a bunch of girls who were "mischief making". 20 were hanged, mostly women, and the last 5 exonerated in 2001.

While watching Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? again last night (Thanks again, Nell) I noticed Netflix has a lot of my favorite movies still available in the Instant section. These are movies I don't mind watching over and over again and thought beings it's Thanksgiving I'd post them in case anyone has not seen them yet or is looking for a good movie to watch this holiday.

The Count of Monte Cristo (Love!)

Of Mice and Men

Alice in Wonderland (cuz I love Tim Burton films)

An American Werewolf in London

Black Sheep

Casino

The Client

District 9

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

Rabbit Proof Fence

The Omen

Radio

Repo! The Genetic Opera

Takashi Miike's "Imprint" is haunting and disturbing:
Called "one of the most unsettling horror directors alive" by the New York Daily News, Takashi Miike lives up to that reputation with this disturbing shocker. An American journalist (Billy Drago) is searching for a prostitute in 19th-century Japan; what he finds instead is a deformed courtesan with a tale of unspeakable cruelty. Based on a Japanese horror novel, this presentation is the first uncensored version to be available in America.

From the Japanese horror genre,I also loved "Three....Extremes"&"Ichi the Killer"
For some good campy fun, "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" is pretty awesome. Also, I recently watched a documentary on a skeevy chester priest titled, "Deliver us from evil"... it pissed me off, but it is a must watch. More to come...

Whoa. I just got the Netflix. I view them on my iPad in bed. I will check out Cropsey and The White Ribbon.

I viewed the 1935 version of SHE. It was pretty good.

I was bored to tears over One Night with the King. Never finished it.

I watched this 80s horror flick called Warlock with Julian Sands. It wasn't that bad. Kinda silly but I was entertained throughout the movie.

I like this thread. :smile8:

Netflix has all the Jaws, all the Look Who's Talking, all of Weeds.

Descent 2. Fright Night. Guarding Tess. Conair. Lots of old 80's movie. Like National Lampoon's Vacation and Big.

I love all the Independent film choices they have on Instant streaming on Netfilx.

I watched "Sleeping Dogs Lie" . Gross and funny. I saw the beginning years ago on cable and told my hubby about it but didn't know the title. Do NOT try to find the movie based upon the content of the movie though, just a bit of advice after I did exactly that.

I also loved Sunshine Cleaning and Seeing Other People

Anybody wanna good laugh? watch 'Alien Apocalypse' with Bruce Campbell from 'Burn Notice'! It was hilarious! Saw that last night.

The kids reminded me of "The Village of the Damned". Very interesting. Now who do you think was responsible for all those crimes.

It was, Klara; the minister's daughter, yes? Perhaps we're not supposed to know who was responsible. Perhaps the children were collectively responsible. Remember, these children were the generation that joined the Nazi movement.

Klara manipulated the other children in striking back at the *authority* they hated. Klara struck back at her father, the pastor, for her cruel and loveless upbringing. The boys strung up and assaulted the Baron's son, Sigi, because they saw themselves as their fathers working for the Baron and Sigi would have been their "employer" one day. The doctor's daughter was the one who brutally beat up and blinded the doctor's office assistant's retarded son. She was striking back at the office assistant because the doctor ended their 5 year affair. Once the office assistant was out of the picture, the doctor started molesting his daughter. The barn was set afire by the children of the mother who fell to her death in the very same barn. The mother was weak and the Baron forced her to work.

The pastor, doctor, and the Baron were powerful people in the village. The children didn't commit the crimes together, but they all planned them - Klara being the ringleader.

And the pastor did know his daughter had a hand in all the crimes. You saw the look on his face when he was giving his daughter communion. He knew she was a monster.

Watched this last nite. One of the 1960's teeny bop B-Movies of the Beach Party kind. I remember seeing this as a kid on TV. Stars Frankie Avalon NOT hanging out with Annette Funicello (although she has an uncredited appearance in this movie). Famous for mobs of scantly clad females and pop music stars of the 60's. This one has James Brown. It's very silly, loaded with slapstick and bad acting, but very funny.

I enjoy watching goofy shit once in a while, so I will probably give it a whirl. Thanks! I've been busy watching the original V series with my hubby and kid, so I don't have any new movies to recommend.

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia

Netflix:
Hailing from Boone County, W. Va., mountain dancer Jesco White may be the most famous member of the White clan -- thanks to the 1991 documentary The Dancing Outlaw -- but he's hardly the most colorful. This film focuses on the rest of the brood. Director Julien Nitzberg spent a year with five generations of the West Virginia family -- and spoke to various members of their community (including the sheriff) -- to provide this colorful portrait.

Wow! This was one of the most interesting, amusing, sad, hilarious, and fucked up documentaries I have seen in a long time! It is a very alarming yet fascinating look into the rebel White family of West Virginia. If you like documentaries or reality shows, you will probably enjoy this one. (Also, the choice of music for certain scenes had me laughing my ass off!)

I watched The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia the other night, and Oh. My. God. The music made me wanna kick a bunny. Aside from the "music", it was a decent documentary. I particularly loved some of the nicknames given to the admitted hillbillies...my favorite being "Sue Bob." It terrifies me to know that those people continue to pop out young 'ens like rabbits....

Hey, I will check out The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia.

Watched this one last nite. Wonderful performances by all. Mo'Nique won an Academy Award for her performance.

Last night I watched Black Christmas.

blackchristmas.jpg

An escaped maniac returns to his childhood home on Christmas Eve, which is now a sorority house, and begins to murder the sorority sisters one by one.

Also, the documentary Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father is still available on Netflix Instant. If you haven't seen this one yet, it's a really heartbreaking story.

Mugshot-9.jpg

Filmmaker Kurt Kuenne's poignant tribute to his murdered childhood friend, Andrew Bagby, tells the story of a child custody battle between the baby's grieving grandparents and Shirley Turner, Bagby's pregnant ex-girlfriend and suspected killer. Initially, Kuenne made this documentary as a memorial for Andrew's loved ones, but it morphs into an emotional legal odyssey when Turner goes free on bail and is allowed to raise her son.

Well...it did have some interesting interpretations. Wasn't that bad. Watching Kirk get his ass kicked every 10 minutes was good. The Spock thing was kind of hokey.

The Taking of Pelham123

movie.jpg

When a group of hijackers led by criminal mastermind Ryder (John Travolta) take the passengers aboard a New York subway train hostage and demand a king's ransom, it's up to subway dispatcher Walter Garber (Denzel Washington) to bring them down.

This one was decent. Lots of action and pretty good performances from Travolta and Washington. Meh. It kept me entertained.

10 Rillington Place

movie-1.jpg

British mass murderer John Reginald Christie (Richard Attenborough) lures Beryl Evans (Judy Geeson) to his flat with the promise of performing an abortion. When he strangles and rapes her, Evans's husband, Timothy (John Hurt), is wrongly convicted and hanged for the crime. Attenborough's chillingly banal portrayal of Christie is a highlight in this adaptation of the real-life case, which led to Britain's abolition of the death penalty.

Very creepy and intense. I really enjoyed this one.

Hi, All--
If you're into good sic-fi, 'Moon' and 'Special' were both streaming on NetFlix last I checked. 'Moon' is one of the best sic-fi thrillers I've ever happened across... Unbelievable performance by Sam Rockwell, who, of course, is SO much fun to look at, too! ;)
I'm a non apologetic horrorphile, so for those of a like mind, here goes: The Signal, The Human Centipede, Antichrist, Deadgirl, the Devil's Backbone, the Orphanage, and Someone's Knocking at the Door are all currently available. Check the synopses... Some of these are quite demented.
If you're into erotic thrillers, go with 'Donkey Punch.' It's absolutely amazing!
