A former Dallas Cowboys player has been arrested on suspicion of his wife's murder after her body was found in a Utah condo.

Anthony Darnel McClanahan, 46, is believed to have stabbed 28-year-old Keri 'KC' McClanahan repeatedly in the throat in the Park Regency Resort condominiums on Thursday.

And on Friday, charges were filed against him for allegedly kidnapping his son from school last month - behavior that he had allegedly tried to blame on injuries from his NFL days, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Police said that they were called to the Park Regency at around 1:30am on Thursday after another occupant complained of a 'ruckus' in the building.

At roughly the same time, McClanahan himself flagged down a police car, Fox 13 Salt Lake City reported.

When police entered the condo they found Keri's body lying in her bed, with knife wounds on her throat.

Keri, who was the mother of a nine-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy with another man, was a 'beautiful spirit' who was 'instantly loved' by people, according to her sister, Heather Gauf.

'She was such an amazing mother and such a beautiful humanitarian,' she said.

She dded that she was worried that it will 'deeply affect my little niece and nephew, to know that their mother was murdered.'

McClanahan was signed to the the Dallas Cowboys 1993, but was dropped before the season began, according to a 1994 report by NewsOK.

He went on to play for the Calgary Stampeders, and calls himself a 'sports performance consultant'.

McClanahan was also charged Friday with kidnapping his son from another relationship at the boy's school.

He is alleged to have snatched his eight-year-old son from a school in Maricopa County, Arizona, on October 3.

According to court documents, the boy's mom, Donna May, found McClanahan the following day and, with the support of police, demanded him back - but the ex-player refused.

She emailed him a court order demanding the boy back the following day, the documents say, but lost contact.

In the days that followed McClanahan posted photos and videos of himself with his son on Facebook; in one of the videos they give supplies to a group of homeless people.

He was found on October 12 and arrested on a fugitive warrant and locked up in Salt Lake City Jail; he paid $150,000 bail on October 19 and was released. The boy was returned to May.

The alleged kidnapping is not believed to be directly related to the Kari's death, but Gauf said that McClanahan had blamed his reportedly unusual behavior on injuries sustained while playing football.

It's not clear quite what was meant by that, but it's possible that McClanahan had intended to blame CTE

A former professional football player sliced his wife's neck and then crawled on the ground outside their rented Utah condominium before flagging down a police officer, prosecutors said in murder charges filed Monday.

The bloody scene in the ski town of Park City indicated that Keri (KC) McClanahan, 28, put up a desperate struggle before she was killed. The murder weapon was a small, sharp knife she'd worn sheathed in a nylon paracord bracelet, charging documents state.

Police found her husband, Anthony D. McClanahan, 46, covered in blood and crawling on his stomach outside early in the morning of Nov. 2. He lifted himself up just enough to flag down a police officer, then dropped back down and began convulsing, his arms making a "snow angel motion," the officer on scene told prosecutors.

Anthony McClanahan was treated for minor injuries and originally told officers he and his wife and baby had been attacked. Investigators, though, found no evidence of anyone else going into the building or of a baby at the Park Regency.

His wife's body was found in the condominium he had rented after someone else at the building called 911, saying they'd seen him crawling low to the ground through the hallways and calling for help. Keri McClanahan had suffered several cuts to the front, back and sides of her neck, as well as other defensive wounds and carpet burns.

McClanahan had been charged with child kidnapping last month after authorities said he took his 8-year-old son from a previous relationship from his school in Arizona on Oct. 3 and traveled with him through Nevada and Utah.

He was arrested in Utah on Oct. 12 and gave his son back, then bonded out of jail a week later.

He and his wife rented the condo in Park City a few days later, charging documents said.

Originally from Bakersfield, Calif., McClanahan played four years with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League in the mid-1990s after a collegiate career at Washington State University. He was in training camp with the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL in 1994 but never played in a game.

Keri McClanahan, who went by KC, had been planning to leave her husband but wanted to help him get on his feet first, said her sister, Heather Gauf.

The couple had met last year when he was working as a personal trainer in her hometown of Bellingham, Wash., and he pushed for a fast wedding, Gauf said.

I find it odd that media is running with the story that hes blaming the NFL when he never played for them, he played for the CFL. On top of that he never really blames either league. He says injuries sustained while playing football. Anyone who knows football knows you don't go from nothing to the big leagues. You have an entire lifetime of football. From high school through uni before you ever even get a chance at playing with the big boys. Media pushing their own narrative at its finest.
