James E. Stoldt remains in Bergen County Jail on $125,000 bail on charges of sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of child pornography. His father, Richard Stoldt, a software engineer, was issued a summons for possession of child pornography and released on his own recognizance, prosecutors said Wednesday.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli, the now-14-year-old girl told a friend that she had engaged in "inappropriate sexual activity" with James Stoldt when she was 13 years old. The friend contacted a detective from Molinelli's office, who on Feb. 20 interviewed the alleged victim and learned specific details of the sexual activity between her and James Stoldt, Molinelli said.
"Further investigation revealed that both James Stoldt and Richard Stoldt were using the Internet to acquire images of child pornography," Molinelli said in a statement. "Computer media used by each, separate and distinct from one another, were found to contain images depicting the sexual exploitation of children. Once it was determined that Richard Stoldt was also using the Internet to obtain images of child pornography he was also arrested."
