Rachel Marie Gillespie, a 26-year-old teacher at Jennings High School, was arrested Thursday on charges of indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Deputies began investigating the case last week after receiving a complaint from the Jefferson Davis Parish School Board about an alleged relationship between Gillespie and a student.

Deputies were able to gather enough evidence to request a search warrant.

The Sheriff's Office wrote in a Facebook update that due to conflicts the District Attorney's office and the 31st Judicial District Judge were recused. The Attorney General's office and a Special Judge were appointed to hear the complaint.

The Jefferson Davis Parish Sherrif's Office and Jennings High School did not return the Daily News' request for comment.

UGHH! I.WILL.NEVER.UNDERSTAND why these teachers go after students. They are kids. The only thing they can give you is sex. They can't work.

A former Jennings High School English teacher accused of having an improper relationship with a male student has pleaded guilty to the charges.

Rachel Marie Gillespie, 28, of Jennings pleaded guilty to carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile on Sept. 9 in the 31st Judicial District Court.

She will have to register as a convicted sex offender as part of the guilty plea.

Gillespie was arrested in August 2017 by the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office following an investigation into allegations of having an inappropriate relationship with the student.

The investigation followed a complaint that was filed by the Jeff Davis Parish School Board.
