Elizabeth Ennen, 15, has been missing from Lubbock, Texas since 1:30 AM on January 5.

ennenelizabeth.jpg

NCMEC poster here.

Here's the story: Elizabeth, who goes by "Beth" or "Lizzie", was apparently babysitting for some family friends at a motel that night. At about 1:30, one or both of the friends reported that they had dropped her off at home. Elizabeth never made it into her house.

Ten or fifteen minutes later, the friends reported that they realized Elizabeth had left her purse in their car, and they took it back to her house, where they were told by a parent that Elizabeth had never arrived. Weird, right?

Even weirder, the Lubbock police seems to have decided that Elizabeth ran away. This may be because Elizabeth was on meds for a "mood disorder". But a kid who is reportedly let out of a car, and never makes it home, who is without her cell phone or her purse or any of her stuff (she was wearing only a light jacket)... that seems off to me.

This kid has been under-reported in the media and relatively little attention is being given to her disappearance. She has now been gone for over two weeks with no contact and no trace. What the hell, Lubbock?

So, maybe the friends really didn't bring her home? Or, maybe the girl realized she forgot her purse and tried to hoof it back to the motel?

Geez, I lost my post
Lt. Cox confirmed Elizabeth was babysitting at the Carriage House Motel. He said it's a place that rents rooms for cheap and that people can rent rooms by the week.
Asked why Elizabeth was babysitting there, Lt. Cox said her boyfriend’s family was living at the motel at the time of Elizabeth’s disappearance.
"That's why Elizabeth was babysitting there," Lt. Cox said.
Concern was raised on the Facebook page about the Carriage House Motel located just off Hwy 289 in Lubbock. People questioned whether it was a safe place to leave a teenager to babysit young children.
It's in what some people call a rough part of town.
Several reviews on the Trip Adviser website confirmed those concerns. One potential customer said, “I was scared to stay there,â€￾ another said they would rename the motel the “Crack House Inn.â€￾ Click here for reviews.
Asked if he knew why Elizabeth’s mother feels her daughter’s case has been ignored, Lt. Cox said, “We have some 45 new runaway cases. Most of the time these kids run off to their boyfriend or girlfriend’s family or friends and are later found. When it goes on this long it’s got to be investigated.â€￾
He also said Elizabeth’s case had not seemed unusual in the detectives’ eyes.
Lt. Cox added, “A lot of time people take in runaways, and you can’t arrest them all for trying to be good Samaritans.â€￾

In a phone inquiry to Lubbock Police about Elizabeth's case, Lt. Cox told this Examiner.com reporter late Thursday afternoon, “The circumstances surrounding Elizabeth’s disappearance sound suspicious to me.â€￾ He said he would review Elizabeth’s case and call back Friday with an update.
As promised, Lt. Cox called Friday. "I've had a chance to review the case and speak to detectives. Elizabeth's case remains active.â€￾
"I've reviewed the report and detectives are investigating and following up on leads. They are reviewing Elizabeth's cell phone records and have talked to potential witnesses, including Elizabeth’s friends and family. They are contacting her friends again," Lt. Cox said.
He added, “When a girl is missing 17 days under suspicious circumstances, it has to be investigated.â€￾
“Detectives believe Elizabeth is a runaway and that she’s in no danger. However, they are not willing to take a chance and are investigating,â€￾ he said.
Lt. Cox confirmed the details surrounding Elizabeth’s disappearance.
“Detectives have been talking with Elizabeth’s older boyfriend. They will exhaust all means before giving up on the search for Elizabeth,â€￾ Lt. Cox said.

The must have been doing more than they let on...

- A Lubbock girl is no longer called an endangered runaway. Instead police now believe that Elizabeth Ennen, 15, was kidnapped.

Police have arrested Humberto Salinas, 45, on a charge of aggravated kidnapping. But while Salinas is in jail, Ennen is still missing. Police have not yet released other details but are preparing a public statement asking for help in finding Elizabeth.
[...]

Police say that after investigating the case it became apparent that Elizabeth did not leave on her own and she did not run away. She disappeared January 5th after she went to a baby-sitting job at the Carriage House Motel.

did anyone hear the announcement? I saw this in an article, and since now it doesn't mention her last being seen when she was dropped off and says last seen when babysitting, I wonder if this is fact.

There is a lot going on on the FB page. There is a cousin, who is a cop somewhere else posting all over it with information. Here's a little:

Well to shed some light on this person he was a good friend of the mother. His 19 yr old son who is known as Humberto Salinas Jr. who is 19 is the person that Elizabeth liked or was trying to date. They were both arrested from what I heard from my family but the father is already out on bond which is the picture above.

Here is a Humberto Salinas in Lubbock, his girl he declares is Emily and ain't no girl gonna get his love like her
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000068879135&sk=wall

And most his posts ended up getting deleted. It appeared other family members did not appreciate it and called it incorrect/un updated info

He did say closer family like mom probably know more and some things he would not post til it was disclosed on the news. He also said he has his search clothes with him ready to go when it's time to search. I dont know what to make of it.

Police say during their investigation it became apparent the Elizabeth was not a runaway and she had been taken against her will on January 5th by Salinas. "We feel sure that he is involved in her disappearance, and right now we're hoping for the best and that somebody can help us find her," said Greg Stevens, Lubbock Police Department.

Elizabeth's aunt says she was babysitting Salinas' children at the Carriage House Motel but she never made it home. She went missing without her purse, cell phone and medication she needed.

While Salinas is behind bars, Elizabeth is still missing. "Our detectives are conducting a kidnapping investigation, not a homicide. We need the public's help in locating Elizabeth," said Stevens. "Our paramount concern right now is finding her, so if anybody has seen her or knows anything about this case please call us."

Around 10p.m. Saturday, Elizabeth's aunt Mary Gomez released this statement:

"First, Elizabeth's mother and family want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers for Beth. Second, we are relieved that the Lubbock Police Department has made progress in Beth's case. We are sadden at the direction that Beth's case has taken but are still hopeful that she will come home."

She continues to write, "Beth's mom, brothers and extended family still hope that everyone will continue to pray for Beth and keep her in their thoughts. The family will continue to look for Beth and we ask that the community continue as well. Please contact the Lubbock Police Department with any and all information as the smallest tip could be the key to get Beth home."

"Beth, if you see this…we love you and we want you home. Please call us."

Stevens said police found evidence leading investigators to believe Ennen was kidnapped by Salinas, though Stevens would not release details about the evidence.

Salinas is a relative of Ennen’s boyfriend and was a resident of the Carriage House in the 900 block of East Slaton Road, Stevens said. He wouldn’t confirm if Ennen’s baby-sitting job involved Salinas or his room at the motel.

Police have released new information in the case of missing teenager Elizabeth Ennen.

Humberto Salinas Jr. is charged with the aggravated kidnapping of the 15 year old Monterey High School student. According to an arrest warrant for Salinas, he was seen forcing Elizabeth into a room at the Carriage House Motel against her will. The documents also say Salinas was later seen chasing Ennen into a corner. The warrant states that Salinas then "escorted" her out of the building leading her to the parking lot with his hand around her arm. The documents say video from the Carriage House depicts that "Elizabeth was afraid of Salinas."

The arrest warrant also says Humberto Salinas Jr. knowingly abducted Elizabeth Ennen.

Elizabeth Ennen has not been seen nor had contact with anyone since Salinas "escorted" her to the parking lot.

I was on the FB and we were discussing the son erasing his whole wall with the only posts on 1/18 and my comments got deleted. I've tried to find a cached version, but I can't get it.

When first interviewed by police on Jan. 21, Salinas told officers he had dropped her off at her house in the 1100 block of 42nd Street at about 1:30 a.m. Jan. 5 after she baby-sat his two young children.

He said he “watched Elizabeth open the screen door then he drove off.â€￾ He said he noticed her purse on the floor board and turned around, making it back to the house at 1:45 a.m.

He said he knocked on the door and Ennen’s older brother answered. He also talked with Ennen’s mother that morning and said he had just dropped off the teen 15 minutes prior.

Salinas said he then drove around looking for her at different addresses.

The suspect admitted to police that had argued with Ennen the night she disappeared. He said he received a call from his wife stating the children were giving Ennen a hard time and he needed to go home.

He said he returned to the motel room at about 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 4, according to court documents.
At about 1 a.m., he said Ennen started acting strange and wanted to go home. He claimed he told her he wanted to wait until his wife got home so his children wouldn’t have to go out into the cold.

He said they argued for a moment before he decided to take her home. He claimed he loaded the children into the car and took her home.

Police officials said on Monday they couldn’t release the video surveillance because it’s evidence in the case.

From the air, on horseback and on foot Lubbock detectives searched an area near 50th and MLK in East Lubbock Sunday morning. Elizabeth disappeared during the early morning hours of January 5th after babysitting for close family friends at the Carriage House Motel. That family friend, 45 year old Humberto Salinas Jr. is now behind bars charged with aggravated kidnapping. Police won't say what evidence connects Salinas to the crime, but one woman had a gut instinct something wasn't right when she spotted Elizabeth and her alleged kidnapper together at a Dollar General in West Lubbock on January 17th.

"My first impression was oh my gosh that beautiful little girl why is she with that man? He's so old?" said Dena Boswell. "And I noticed the little girl was really really stiff. I mean she's walking stiff almost robot like."

I'm not sure about this one. This is supposedly a real news site.

Damn.
KCBD NewsChannel 11 has learned that Lubbock police searching for missing teenager Elizabeth Ennen, 15, have found a body along County Road 1700 near Shallowater. We have asked police if the body is Elizabeth. They say they cannot comment until the Medical Examiner makes a positive identification.
http://www.kcbd.com/Global/story.asp?S=13900023
Lubbock police were investigating in northwest Lubbock County after finding a "young, female" body.

Capt. Greg Stevens could not comment on whether it was the body of Elizabeth Ennen, a 15-year-old who vanished Jan. 5 after a babysitting job and was considered a runaway by the department until last week. Stevens also declined to comment on what led the department to the scene, more than six miles north of the Clovis Highway near County Road 1

I have a source who is telling me that the suspect led LE to Elizabeth's body. No confirmation on that yet. My heart goes out to this family, and to Elizabeth. It is possible that she was alive and being held as late as the 17th, if a witness is found credible.

Sort of OT but still infuriating: From the same source (who is family), it turns out that the Find Elizabeth Ennen: Missing from Texas FB page is being run by the same banhammer-crazed nutjob who is running a similar page for Hailey Dunn.

This crazy bitch got so control hungry that she banned Elizabeth's Aunt Lily just today from the Find Elizabeth page. Yes, she banned Beth's aunt from a page about Beth. Beth's mother was upset about this, so I posted to the page myself and asked whether Aunt Lily had in fact been banned (I'd already confirmed it, as had Virginia Ennen). I asked that the page admin please allow Aunt Lily to post as a favor to Beth's mother. Result? Immediate banhammer. Thirty seconds tops.

So while this family is grieving, shocked, and horrified at the loss of their child and the fact that it took LE two weeks to look at surveillance tape, some anonymous nutball is banning family members from commenting at the page dedicated to their child.

I think I might have a new mission. It won't bring Beth Ennen back, but it will sure as hell make me feel better. I'm a little ragey right now.

What a bitch. That is one person I would like to see Anonymous or someone go after. To ban an actual family member, that is just fucked up.

It's probably the head of the "Puppies And Rainbow Coalition" (PRC). If they could figure out how to post text in glitter graphics, I bet they would. I can't imagine anything the aunt could say that would bring a banhammer down on her. You, dear Impy, I can see it happening to. Only because common sense often offends the PRC folks.

Well, DV, it is entirely possible that I volunteered to take the banhammer if one had to be issued, because Aunt Lily deserved to be able to post. And it is also possible that I was all like "Did you actually ban Beth's AUNT while Beth's body is being identified?"

To my credit I did not call her a heinous self-righteous hypocritical faux-Christian holier-than-thou self-serving fame-seeking whore bitch. So I think I was rather restrained, all things considered. And considering as she hates me on sight after the Hailey Dunn debacle in which I told her that Occam's Razor was not the name of a Satanic cult.

But yeah... it's looking like the body is Beth's. There will be a statement later tonight by police, possibly soon. And Virginia Ennen said her child had been kidnapped from day one - she even went to the motel with the asshole perp to look for her child at two in the morning that first night. So she's been through hell - and so has her 15-year-old child.

Goddammit.

Ahhhh, comments were getting deleted too fast I missed that drama, but Lily friend requested me, announced a new page maybe and stated "i guess I'll be banned next" and that was that. I was a little aggravated because I posted the timeline and that page creator erased it all a couple times to erase what people were commenting on.

Nothing in the news yet.
Capt. Greg Stevens said the medical examiner's office in Lubbock was expected to officially identify the body Tuesday, less than a day after being found Monday evening, but investigators are ""more than quite sure" it's Elizabeth Ennen.

There are no reports of missing people who "meet the description of the body we found" and the clothing on the body is "more than quite similar" to what the teen was wearing, he said.

Police are obtaining a murder warrant for Humberto Maldonado Salinas Jr., Stephens said.
[...]

Court documents detail a surveillance video apparently from the last night Ennen was seen alive. The footage shows Ennen with the father of her boyfriend. The father chased her and then physically forced her into the parking lot at a motel in the early morning hours of Jan. 5, court documents state.

Salinas said Ennen was "like a daughter" to him, court records show.

Ennen was at the hotel babysitting for Salinas' children while Salinas went to play bingo and his wife went out with her sister, documents show.

In an interview with investigators, Salinas told police he took Ennen home from the motel when "she started to act strange" and that he returned to her home after seeing that she'd left her purse in his car, court records show.

When he returned the purse to Ennen's house, the teen's mother became suspicious and questioned Salinas, telling him her daughter was with him, the records state.

Just to make it official:
LPD detectives have positively identified the body found yesterday evening in northwest Lubbock County off of County Road 1700 as that of 15-year-old Elizabeth Ennen.
[...]

The identification was made by fingerprint comparison.

The Lubbock County Medical Examiner’s Officer has finished an autopsy of the body. However, those results are not yet available.
[...]

Ennen's family has been notified on the identification. An account has been opened at American State Bank to cover Ennen's funeral expenses.

The Ennens are probably going to need help with funeral expenses for Beth. If anyone would like to donate please let me know and I will get with Beth's mom and get you information on where donations can be sent that will go directly to the family or the funeral home.

I know we're all broke lately, but if you can help and want to, please PM me.

The Lubbock County Medical Examiner says Elizabeth Ennen died as a result of asphyxia and strangulation.

Lubbock Police Captain Greg Stevens says there are several possible crime scenes across the area. As for the investigation he says "we're gonna make sure we have all the bases covered".
[...]

Stevens says the issue of a motive isn't being discussed at this point. "As far as us going through the process of establishing probable cause, it's not significant to us right now," says Stevens.

Lubbock District Attorney Matt Powell says it's too early in the process to discuss whether the death penalty will be sought.
