An urgent search is underway for a man accused of killing his 3-month-old daughter, Gwinnett police said.

Authorities have charged 44-year-old Charles Hamilton with murder, cruelty to children and aggravated battery in connection with the death of Adriana Hamilton.

According to police, someone called 911 on Sept. 9 and said the baby was having breathing problems at an apartment in the 11400 block of Springs Lane near Peachtree Corners.

But when Gwinnett firefighters took Adriana to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, doctors determined she actually had fractured ribs and bleeding on the brain, police Cpl. Michele Pihera said. “An autopsy was conducted on the baby, and it revealed significant head trauma,” Pihera said. “It is because of the autopsy results that this case is being considered a homicide.”

Police determined she suffered those injuries in Hamilton’s care. He was watching her while Adriana’s mother went to a laundromat, Pihera said.

Hamilton has not been seen since Sept. 12. Adriana died the next day.
