A WBRZ viewer spotted a bizarre sight Thursday afternoon as blood leaked onto a road behind a local funeral home.

Photos taken from behind the Greenoaks Funeral Home on Florida Boulevard showed blood leaking from a valve and flowing onto a back road.

According to a city official, the red substance was blood mixed with Formaldehyde.

"We sent out both our sewer inspector and our environmental specialists to take a look. We determined that it wasn't a sewer issue and that it was an issue on private property," Adam Smith with the City of Baton Rouge Department of Environmental Services said.

The mixture was apparently leaking from a storage tank behind the building. The tank, which holds excess embalming fluid, had begun to leak at some point around 2 p.m.

Because this is an issue on private property, the city says the leakage will not run into the city sewer system. When asked if the business will face citation, the city says the funeral home is under new management and did not have a permit.

"We've been really concentrating on restaurants lately, so we haven't been looking into the funeral homes. But we're going to go ahead and get them signed up for a permit tomorrow," Smith said.

The leak apparently lasted for about 20 minutes before the owner of the funeral home managed to get the issue handled.

Ah, Everjaded beat me to it.
This is like a dream come true. Really.....I had a dream once that I went to visit my grandmother in a rest home. Old people everywhere were sitting, staring or napping. No one talked. I realized everone was sedated. I walked across a lawn looking for my Grandmother and the ground was spongy, lumpy, wet. I realized it was body fluids and I was walking across shallow graves. The place was like a animal shelter for the elderly. People dumped their old folks off for euthanasia.
The dream was so vivid I wrote it down after waking because it would make a great horror story.
My grandmother had never been in a nursing home.

Wait, so officials know that this business doesnt have its equipment up to snuff, yet it is going to grant them a permit anyways? There's no penalty for it operating without one previously!??
