Two teenage boys have been arrested in connection with a fire at a mosque complex in south London.

The youths, aged 16 and 14, were arrested earlier on Sunday on suspicion of arson at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden.

The blaze at the mosque, said to be the largest in western Europe, was tackled by 70 firefighters.

An administration building was badly damaged but not the mosque, London Fire Brigade said.

A suspected arson at a mosque complex in south London is not believed to be a hate crime, police have said.

Two boys, aged 16 and 14, were arrested over the blaze at the Baitul Futuh Mosque in Morden on Saturday.

The 14-year-old has been bailed and the 16-year-old was released with no further action.

The Metropolitan Police said the investigation was ongoing but "there is nothing to suggest at this stage that this is a hate crime".

They're 16 and 14, sometimes that's the only motive a teenager needs for things.

You're so right. I did a ton of stupid, dangerous stuff as a kid. But I never thought about burnin' churches, or in this case a mosque. I thought later that one of them could have been lighting up and it could have been some sort of accident. But I'm not sure that's probable. Possible maybe, but not that probable.

They could have been dicking around with fireworks or something. Given that the administration building was the most damaged, it probably wasn't intentional.
