MARTIN COUNTY, FL – Police have arrested 19-year-old Austin Harrouff after the Florida State University student murdered a couple at random and was found chewing off one of the victims’ face.
Police say it started Monday night while Harrouff was with is family at a sports bar and restaurant. Harrouff reportedly stormed out of the restaurant, aggravated over the slow service.
His parents were so worried about his behavior that they called police and some of his fraternity brothers in hopes of locating him.
About 45 minutes later, Harrouff made contact with Michelle and John Stevens, who were sitting inside their open garage as they often did at night.
For reasons currently unknown, Harrouff viciously attacked and killed the couple with a switchblade and multiple “weapons of opportunity” found inside the garage.
“Both victims sustained massive trauma on multiple portions of their body. There were lacerations, stab wounds and blunt trauma,” Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said.
A neighbor heard the screams and witnessed Harrouff on top of John in the driveway. He tried to intervene, but suffered multiple stab wounds in the process. He managed to get away and call 911.
When police arrived, they found find Michelle’s lifeless body inside the garage and Harrouff still on top of John in the driveway —
taking bites out of John’s face while making growling noises.

One officer shot Harrouff with stun gun several times, but it had no effect on the teen. It took four deputies and a K-9 to finally subdue Harrouff and take him into custody.
Harrouff was taken to the hospital where he continued making animal noises, and is currently sedated. The neighbor who tried helping the poor couple is also in the hospital in serious condition.
Harrouff was tested for cocaine, meth, marijuana and opiates, but all of them came up negative. Snyder said investigators will now be testing for flakka and bath salts.
“I’m not going to speculate, except to say that we know in our business that people on flakka or bath salts will do this type of behavior, where they attack the victim and do the biting and actually remove pieces of flesh in the bites,” said Snyder.
