http://www.kentucky.com/news/state/article200522389.htmlA 2-year-old boy allegedly killed by his mother and her boyfriend had severe head trauma, bruising on his entire body and bite marks, according to jail records.
William H. Butler, 31, and Seara M. Clements, 26, both of Berea, were charged with murder, criminal abuse of a child and failure to report neglect/abuse, according to jail records. They were arrested Thursday — one day after the death of Clements’ son, Tristan Clements.
According to Butler and Clements’ arrest citations, obtained through the Madison County Detention Center, abuse of the toddler began around January and continued until Feb. 12. Tristan was transported Monday to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, where he died Wednesday from his injuries.
Kentucky State Police was contacted Monday about Tristan suffering life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe Tristan was injured while in the care of Clements and Butler in their home on Dreyfus Road in Madison County, according to state police.
Butler admitted striking the child and causing injury, according to his arrest citation. Clements said Tristan was in her immediate care prior to the child becoming unresponsive and being transported to the hospital, according to her arrest citation.
Tristan's mother, Seara Clements, told detectives she had observed her boyfriend, William Butler, biting the child.
She also told police he would take the child into the bedroom and beat him in order to get the toddler to stop crying.
She admitted not reporting the abuse and told police she had smacked the child in head and face before.
Detectives say William Butler admitted to squeezing, shaking and spanking him too hard.
Butler and Clements are charged with criminal abuse of a child and failure to report child neglect/abuse.
