Hundreds of people were gathered at a New Orleans playground for a music video shoot when two groups in the crowd opened fire on each other, wounding 16 people in the shocking Sunday evening violence, police said.

Police were on their way to break up a big crowd at Bunny Friend Playground when gunfire erupted at the park in the city's 9th Ward, the police said in a statement Sunday.

Police said 10 people were taken to the hospital in ambulances while another six were taken in private vehicles. Photos of the scene showed emergency workers wheeling some of the wounded to ambulances on gurneys while other people who appeared to be in pain lay on the ground.

Joseph Jordan was inside a house across the street from the park with his friend, who gave her first name as Raven, when they heard gunshots. Later someone called Raven and told her that her niece had been shot. The two rushed to the hospital to check on the 14-year-old, who had been shot three times in the leg.

....

Investigators don't know how serious the wounds are, or what started the shooting, police spokesman Tyler Gamble said. Large stadium lights lit up the park Sunday as police continued to work the crime scene. Witnesses told police that the gunmen ran off after the shooting was over.

The park was crowded with hundreds of people, the police said. Some had walked there after a neighborhood parade had finished earlier that evening and others were watching or taking part in the music video, Gamble said.

Gamble says the video was being made without a permit to use the park.

For good & for bad, at least the 'lil idiots couldn't hit what they aimed at. Make 'em join the Army for a tour, send 'em to Afghanistan. Let 'em feed the sand fleas instead of feeding their hatred of folks wearing the wrong colored shoelaces.
If they make it back home, their aim ought to have improved. :sarcasm:

Shit, they said it was a video shoot....should have been more specific. They were thinking one kind of shoot while obviously someone was thinking of another kind. We know how stupid people are these days! This was obviously a communication issue!

It was 19 people.
The shooting also came from part of a second line.
My city has been making me uneasy this week.

The suspect in a horrifying gunfight that left 17 people wounded in New Orleans turned himself over to authorities Saturday, but he refused to talk about the shooting.

Joseph (Moe) Allen, 32, was named by New Orleans investigators as one of the suspects sought for the violent shootout on Sunday.

He will face 17 counts of attempted murder, but investigators said Allen won't speak about the allegations against him.

The suspect’s prior rap sheet includes everything from home invasion to carjacking to drug possession, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.

Allen and an unknown number of accomplices allegedly opened fire in Bunny Friend Park as it teemed with hundreds of people filming a music video at a 6 p.m. block party.

NEW ORLEANS - The NOPD has identified four additional suspects in the playground shooting that injured 17 on Nov. 22.

Quendrick "C4" Bailey, Lawrence "L" Veals, Michael "Mack" Allen and Rashad "KMG EZZY" Walker are being sought.

All will face 17 counts of attempted first-degree murder in the shooting.

Police Superintendent Michael Harrison said he expects arrests to be forthcoming.

"We know who you are. We know who you associate with," he said, addressing the four wanted suspects at a press conference. Crimestoppers said it was stepping up its normal award for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the criminals to $10,000.

Harrison said the shooting incident involved multiple groups from multiple gangs around the city.

"Innocent people got hurt and it could have been much worse," said Harrison, who added that more suspects are likely.

The NOPD previously had arrested Joseph "Moe" Allen in the shooting.

On Nov. 22, shots rang out at Bunny Friend park at a crowd gathered for a taping of a music video. In all, 17 people were injured as bullets sprayed the area. Most of those injured suffered minor injuries.

Darrion Young, 32, acknowledged that he had lied when he told authorities that Joseph “Moe” Allen started the Nov. 22, 2015, shootout in the crowded Upper 9th Ward park that left 17 people wounded.

Young now faces up to 10 years in prison on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and making false statements to federal agents.

U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan set a Sept. 12 sentencing date.

In a court filing, prosecutors laid out a trail of duplicity on Young’s part that could have led to decades in prison for Allen. Young pinned the crime on Allen because of what he said was an ongoing beef between the two.

Allen’s attorney said the case shows why purported witnesses to crimes sometimes lie.

When the Bunny Friend mass shooting drew national attention, authorities were under great pressure to identify and arrest suspects.

Two days after the shooting, Young was driving a Cadillac SUV on North Claiborne Avenue when detectives ordered him to stop.

Young sped off toward the Interstate 10 on-ramp but ran into traffic, according to an admission filed in court. He then jumped out of the car with a passenger and tried to hide. He tossed a .357 Magnum handgun off the side of the highway, he said.

Police found and arrested Young, who was not allowed to carry a weapon because of numerous felony convictions. At some point he told New Orleans police that he had information about the Bunny Friend shooting.

Young told the investigators that he was outside the park when he witnessed Allen start the shooting with a .40-caliber handgun. The shooting stemmed from a dispute between Allen and people from the 9th Ward, he said.
