WAR-- A social worker at a McDowell County elementary school is behind bars after being accused of multiple sexual abuse charges.

Detectives with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office said deputies arrested 44-year-old Kenneth Brown of War on Wednesday on three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, one count of first-degree sexual assault, and three counts of sexual abuse by a person in position of trust.

Brown was employed at Southside Elementary School in War as a social worker.

McDowell County Schools superintendent Nelson Spencer confirms with Newswatch that Brown was fired from his position "three or four weeks ago," and Spencer said the firing was before Brown was arrested.

The sheriff's department would not say whether the incidents Brown is being accused of occurred at the school.
