One-armed Driver Answers Mobile Phone, Crashes

A one-armed driver involved in a fender bender was detained after police found that not only was he unlicensed but had been using his only hand to talk on his mobile phone.

The driver, surnamed Jiang, was sentenced to 15 days in detention and given a 2,000 yuan ($308) fine for driving without a license, iqilu.com reported Wednesday.

Jiang, who is missing his right hand and forearm, admitted to police in Yantai, Shandong Province he was handling his phone at the time of the accident.

Police were even more taken aback when they noticed Jiang drives a stick shift. "It was very dangerous," said a Yantai officer.

"I am a good driver, I use my left hand to steer and shift gears," Jiang told the reporter.

An investigation revealed that Jiang had been cited in March for driving without a license.

"You wouldn't have caught me if this accident hadn't happened," Jiang told police.

Jiang's disability makes him ineligible for a driving license, according to Chinese traffic law.

Glad to hear he is a really good driver, otherwise this could have been tragic instead of just hilariously stupid.

His personality seems to be quite disarming though.
