One of the three co-accused in a disturbing child sex assault case will plead guilty to some of the charges she faces, her lawyer told the Barrie Advance today.

Kathryn Thompson, 20, of Orillia will take responsibility for about half of her 23 charges at the end of the month, defence counsel Angela McLeod said.

Thompson was charged in 2013 along with Avery Taylor, 21, of Orillia and Shayne Lund, 23, of Midland.

Lund, who is considered the ringleader in the case, is charged with conspiracy to kidnap and drug children, sexually assaulting children, coercing children to perform sexual acts on animals and videotaping and photographing children nude in sexual positions.

Police have combed through “hundreds of thousands” of images and video clips during their investigation into the sweeping child pornography and sex assault case involving young children.

McLeod said she has come to an agreement with the Crown following about three weeks of preliminary hearings at the Barrie courthouse.

“We made the point we had to at the preliminary that she, too, was a victim,” McLeod said. “She is not a pedophile. She was coerced. She did what she did to impress Shayne Lund.”

Thompson was released on strict bail conditions last April after serving about seven months in custody.

McLeod said her “biggest fight” will come during Thompson’s sentencing hearing, during which the Crown is expected to argue Thompson deserves dangerous or long-term offender status.

McLeod said she will argue Thompson is not a predator and is not at risk to re-offend. She added there are no specific statistical tests to measure the risk factor for female sex offenders as there are for male sexual predators.

“They don’t exist for females. There is just not enough statistical basis to assess females,” she said.

Thompson’s decision to plead guilty means she will no longer be part of the ongoing preliminary hearing, McLeod said.

McLeod said the Crown could subpoena Thompson to testify against Lund, but she highly doubts that will happen in this case.

Following the guilty plea, Thompson still faces the lengthy long-term offender hearing.

What a load of shit. Even if they threatened to kill her, i wouldn't have much sympathy. But by this asswipes own words she did it to "impress" the sick shit. How do they go from, "she was a victim, she was coerced" to "she was trying to impress him" in the very next sentence? Was she a victim or not? If so, how? You can't claim someone was a victim and was forced and at the same time claim they did it under their own volition.

So by the defense's own admission, we have absolutely no way of knowing just how dangerous this sick fuck truly is. Sounds like all the more reason to go with the harshest and most restrictive punishments possible.

Avery Taylor and Shayne Lund are a young couple in Canada whose rather innocent outward appearance conceals some of the sickest desires and crimes imaginable — crimes that both have now admitted in court, and on Thursday, were revealed in graphic detail. The couple openly discussed their grotesque activities and plans in text messages in which they discuss kidnapping and sexually abusing little girls, fantasies which they acted upon repeatedly, according to their guilty pleas.

Nude photographs of young girls taken by Taylor and Lund were also released by authorities as part of the 100-page “statement of facts” made public July 2, though other images of child pornography taken by Lund and Taylor have been placed under seal. Lund is the son of an Ontario police officer and all of his crimes took place in three Ontario cities.

According to the court documents, Taylor, 21, told investigators that when the couple was dating in the summer of 2013, she learned that Lund, 23, had an “obsession with having sexual intercourse with small children.”

And she was determined to do whatever she could to help him fulfill his degenerate fantasies, using her job as a babysitter to gain access to young girls for Lund to rape — a craving he often described in stomach-turning detail that left little to the imagination.

Taylor’s response was “Dare you ;)”

That text came during an exchange about a plot between the two to kidnap a girl from the bathroom of a drive-in movie theater, knock her out with drugs, and sexually assault her. They never carried out that scheme.

But the demented couple did succeed in other plots to abuse little girls. One five year-old girl was blindfolded and tricked into oral sex with Lund in the guise of a “taste test,” during which Lund wore a condom coated with strawberry flavoring.

In one text, Taylor tells Lund that she has “got” a little girl, and suggests, “Let’s take her to the beach … we can get her in the water where no one will see.”

When they attacked the girl under the cover of water, Lund filmed the attack using a waterproof video camera. But the little girl screamed and the couple were not able to take the assault as far as they had planned.

Lund later texted Taylor that the couple should attempt to rape the little girl again, but this time, they would drug her first.

“She’s too smart … as bad as I want her she’s a screamer,” wrote Lund in the message. “But insnly hot an nice body … mmm. We need to knock her out.”

The pair even fantasized about parenting a child, but disagreed on whether Lund would be allowed to sexually abuse their own daughter, if they had one.

“Why shouldn’t her dad be her first? I couldn’t hold myself back…not at all,” Lund wrote.

“I would let u have every other child in the world. But I would(n’t) want you to mess with our baby,” his girlfriend responded.

A second woman who was charged, Kathryn Thompson, 21, of Orillia, has also pleaded guilty to similar counts.

The details of Thompson’s case were read out by Crown Attorney Indy Kandola in court Wednesday in an agreed statements of facts.

Thompson pleaded guilty to 11 counts including conspiring to drug and sexually assault children; committing bestiality on a dog and creating and possessing child pornography.

Police seized Thompson’s cellphone which showed several images of her having sex with a dog with the words, “I love my dog.”

Several images on her phone show she surreptitiously took photos of a prepubescent girl while she was naked. She then conspired to drug and rape the girl and discussed which drug options would work best. Court heard she also received images on her phone showing children in sexual acts.

“They appear to be distressed due to being sexually assaulted,” Kandola said.

Pedophiles develop their sexual attraction towards children during adolescence, typically around the time they reach puberty. Same with attraction towards animals. Some develop it later, but usually it starts around puberty.

As for the women, I think the one crybaby probably had some fantasies that she would not have normally acted upon, and probably came to those fantasies later, whereas the other two likely had them since puberty. None of them are victims or were coerced into what they did. The crybaby is only sorry she got caught and maybe a little distressed at her lack of willpower, since she certainly knew what she was doing was wrong. I doubt it took much persuasion to get her on board tho. And probably all of it was of the "you won't get caught" variety.

I agree and I guess I should have clarified. I know that most sexual inclinations develop at puberty or shortly thereafter, but for someone to so brazenly act on it (aside from images), it usually takes more time. They are so young that this is practically kids abusing other kids.

I think a big part of it was the two finding each other and finding out they shared the same sick fantasies, and then realizing they had access. Probably alone they wouldn't have done anything... tho the woman had access thru babysitting and I doubt she wouldn't have done something, just not this. Who questions a teen girl having a tickle-fight with a young kid? But once they found out that they were both into the same things, they spurred each other on to deeper acts of depravity. Alone, it's "god I'm weird and fucked up" but together it's another story.

You make a very valid point and I'd assume you're probably right. Although I will say that I'm certain he would have and DID do things regardless of the girls. I think he was the catalyst that took things from fantasy to reality, they just tagged along for the ride. So sick.

Oh no doubt on both counts. He would have acted on his fantasies sooner or later. It was just the access that caused it to happen when it did. But who knows? I remember watching on the news back when it happened those two young adults who took a trip to Vegas and one of them lured a little girl into a bathroom where he raped and then strangled her. It was a total crime of opportunity, and one which wouldn't have happened otherwise as it was such a very stupid thing to do (in a casino with surveillance everywhere). He would have done something like that at some point, tho, it was just a matter of time.

“You think I’m a monster don’t you?” Lund said, but then he cried and she felt sorry for him, Thompson said in the assessment. So she “pretended” to be sexually turned on by children and told Lund she couldn’t wait to have children with him so they could train them as sex toys.

I remember that case. His friend went into the bathroom and knew that the other guy was sexually assaulting the little girl, but did nothing to stop it. He was never charged because NV doesn't have Good Samaritan laws or something and went on to attend UC Berkeley. It makes me livid to think about.
 
Anyone read much about Ian Brady and Myra Hindley, child murders on the moors? These two are of the same twisted ilk, the only difference being that as far as we know they didn't murder any of their victims. Perhaps they just hadn't gotten there yet. At any rate when I read the articles on this pair I was struck by how much they shared with Ian and Myra.
