The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of two people found badly burned in a car in a remote area as a double homicide.
The bodies were found Thursday night in a ravine near Scootney Road and Hendricks Road, said Sheriff Jim Raymond.
The car was hidden down in the ravine about a mile off the road.
“We are talking remote, out in the middle of the sagebrush and stuff,” Raymond said.
Investigators have tentatively identified the victims, who are an adult and a child, officials confirmed. They believe the victims are from Othello.
A volunteer firefighter spotted smoke coming from the ravine about 5:45 p.m. and went to investigate, Raymond said. When the firefighter arrived, the car was engulfed in flames.
The bodies were discovered after the fire was put out. Autopsies are being scheduled.
The sheriff’s office has identified a person or persons of interest in the case, Raymond said.
