The tragic case of child abuse and murder took place at an apartment complex in Del City near S.E. 29th St. and Sooner Rd.
The suspect is identified as 34-year-old Roderick Jackson.
The suspect is the boyfriend of the victim's mother.
Police confirm the victim died Tuesday from her injuries.
"She did have a number of injuries. We can't get specific what the injuries were. They were consistent with child abuse," Del City police Captain Jody Suit said.
Police say Roderick Jackson had been looking after the victim and went to a neighbor’s house to call 911 after the child stopped moving.
Police arrested Jackson initially on a charge of child abuse.
"This morning about 11:30 the child died from her injuries related to child abuse. So we'll amend the charge to first degree murder," Suit said.
As the department of corrections website shows, Jackson has four previous felony convictions for assault.
At this point, investigators don't believe the victim's mother had any role in the abuse.
"The mother was out of town. I'm not sure on what business, but she was not home when we believe the assault occurred," Suit said.
Police can't say what led up to the alleged violence in the apartment but they do say it's a crime they're not taking lightly.
"Anytime a child is harmed, it's sad. When they die, it's a bad deal, but we work it like any other case. It's a homicide," Suit said.
Managers at the apartment complex threw us off the property before we could talk to anyone who knew the victim or the suspect.
