A 28-year-old Rancho Cucamonga mother who allegedly left her 4-year-old daughter home alone while she took a day trip to San Diego was charged with child endangerment Thursday.

A 4-year-old girl was allegedly left home alone in Ranch Cucamonga by her mother who went to San Diego for the day with friends.

Bing Chen was charged one day after a group of children heard her daughter crying for help inside an apartment in the 10900 block of Terra Vista Parkway (map).

The children knocked on the door about 3 p.m. and spoke to the girl who appeared to be in distress, but didn’t tell their parents until later that night.

“The child was left unattended … anywhere from seven to 10 hours,” according to Sgt. Michael Kleczko with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Chen was taken into custody when she returned home at about 10:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.

Through an interpreter, Chen told authorities she had gone to San Diego for a day trip and she believed it was OK to leave her daughter at home because she had left food and instructions on when to eat and go to bed.

The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office filed felony child endangerment charges against Chen on Thursday, court documents showed.

Oh good! she left a note of instructions of when to eat and food to eat but then she forgot to leave anyone there that could read. Most 4 year olds I know can't read. Maybe this little angel can, still can't parse that mom thought it was okay cause she left a note! :eek:o_O:arghh:

Ms. Chen brings that form of parenting to it's pinnicle. For the little 4-year-old, it was a case of learn to read, or die.

My grand daughter is five and I love spending time with her ..she's so smart .. actually pretty mateur for her age.. she could probably watch herself and manage to not get hurt... BUT.. Her parents nor I would never take the chance... WHY..because you love them and NOTHING is so important to take the chance of losing them..

This so called mom sounds like it never crossed her mind.. This was normal.. Anyone know anything about where she is from.. Is this normal parenting there.. Just curious..

How terribly sad. I still wont leave my 8 yr old home or anywhere else alone, not even for the quick trip to walgreens two blocks from here....poor lil baby must have been so confused.....
Did mom say I start the rice before the noodles or was it the noodles before the rice....and was it to be 8pm or 8am when I go to bed....????:jawdrop:
My daughter still seems confused with the bedtime directions ....and she tries to stay up til 8am just to sleep til 3pm..its hell..:arghh:.lol.

Mom allegedly leaves 4-year-old home alone during trip
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. -- A Rancho Cucamonga woman was arrested on felony charges after allegedly leaving her 4-year-old daughter home alone while spending the day with friends in San Diego.

Amy Kurete says her 9-year-old son, Tanner, and his friends heard the girl crying.

"They looked in the window and saw a little girl screaming, pulling her hair and was really upset, so they knocked on the door," Kurete said.

The little girl opened the door and told the children she had been home alone for hours and wanted her mommy. The children alerted a neighbor who contacted the leasing office, which then called police.

"When the deputy asked the little girl what had happened or where her mom was, first she said her mom went to work and then she turned around and said that her mom didn't feel good and went home," San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Teresa McMahon said.

A responding deputy searched the apartment in the 10900 block of Terra Vista Parkway and found a phone number to the girl's father who was overseas. He told investigators his wife should have been home with their daughter.

During the investigation, investigators also found a note with instructions on when the girl was supposed to eat and go to bed.

Kurete said the child could not reach the food herself.

"They had to help her get the food and the water," Kurete said.

Investigators say the child's mother returned around 10 p.m. Bing Chen, 28, told police, through an interpreter, that she left for San Diego around 3 p.m. to spend the day with friends.

"She said it was OK in China for them to leave their children home alone with instructions on when to go to bed and when to eat, and that she had gone to San Diego with her friends," McMahon said.

Sasha Arevalo, a mother of three, says she's shocked.

"Can they make food for themselves? Can they use the bathroom by themselves? No, it's terrible parenting," she said.

Chen was booked at West Valley Detention Center for willful cruelty to a child, and her daughter was taken by Child Protective Services. She is being held on $100,000 bail and is set to be arraigned Friday.

She was so upset she was pulling her own hair..Aaww I just want to hug her and fix her something to eat..

I don't think this would be appropriate even in China. A 4 year still can't read the note to know what to do even if capable of doing it.

Right? I'm sure the entire preschool population in China is sitting alone in the middle of the living room floor playing with their scrolls and abacuses12 hours a day. :meh:

Awesome. Just fucking awesome.

Let's lock the cunt of a mother in a cell and put the food and water up about 10 or 12 feet in the air and see her try to get something for her hunger and thirst. And, let's put the whole display on TV so we can all watch, point and laugh.

I just watched a episode on law and order. Anyway ..the mom who is here from China left her daughter who was about the same age alone with a baby that was less than a year anyway she had drew circles around different times on the clock and taught her daughterv to make and give the baby a bottle each time the clock hands were on that time... Yes its a fake TV show and not that it matters what they do in China ..but it made me wonder if she honestly thought it was OK ..

Man, that bitch knew damn well that was NOT ok. She's just a stupid ass selfish bitch that don't give a fuk about her child. The poor baby was probably scared at night all alone...fuk that bitch

Interesting you should mention L & O. When it began, it was originally based on RL criminal cases, but over time as it developed and SVU was born, Dick Wolf did a lot fewer real court cases and started pulling a host of ethical quandaries/dilemmas from the headlines de jour, though they do still occasionally use real crime stories. It's certainly possible the episode could've been based on a real case/story/legal situation, esp. if the undertone, or "B' story issue was about adequate child care dilemmas for single, working folks/couples.

There are actually 2 books that list the cases that Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU episodes are based on. I have and read them both, they were actually quite interesting, while I knew some of the real life cases that the plot lines were based on I didn't know them all and a couple surprised me.

I couldn't imagine leaving my 5 year old alone for so long. The longest I've left her "alone" is to go take a shower and she's in the next room. What are these "parents" thinking?
