The backyard where gma was found

A Four year-old boy and his grandmother have been killed in what police have described as a "horrific" incident at a house in Albanvale in Melbourne's west.

Police found the 60-year-old woman stabbed to death in the backyard of the home on Varsity Court and found her 61-year-old husband bound and gagged in the lounge.

When police freed the man he asked about his grandson, who police found dead in a bedroom with stab wounds.

Homicide detectives are questioning a 45-year-old Albion woman about the deaths.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stuart Bailey said police were investigating the relationship between the woman being questioned and the man found gagged.

"But the actual motive is yet to be established," he said.

Senior Sergeant Bailey said officers were looking at the possibility the two were involved in a romantic relationship.

"They've known each other for three years and the nature of their relationship is currently unknown," he said.

Police said the grandparents looked after the boy every Tuesday while the parents, who have three more children, went to work.

Senior Sergeant Bailey described the scene as horrific and said the child's parents were distraught.

"It's an extremely distressing situation for the police as well, so police welfare services have also been contacted for the welfare of our police members," he said.

"As you'd understand the members who uncovered this are quite distressed."

The 61-year-old man is being treated in the Royal Melbourne Hospital for minor injuries.

Neighbour Eddie Portelli said he did not know the family.

.......

"I never heard any screams or nothing," he said.

Mr Portelli said he saw a woman being escorted from the house.

"[Police] grabbed her, they put her in the van and took her away," he said.

Police believe a possible love triangle have played a role in the stabbing murder of a four-year-old boy and his grandmother at a Melbourne home.

The 60-year-old woman was found dead in the backyard while her husband, 61, was found bound and gagged on the living room floor.

The couple regularly babysat their young grandson, whose body was found in a bedroom.

Police arrested a 45-year-old woman on Tuesday night after discovering the bodies at the Concord Circuit home in Albanvale in Melbourne's west.

Detectives earlier said the motive for the attack was unclear, but officers were investigating a romantic relationship between the grandfather and the younger woman.

"We think it's got something to do with a relationship between the 45-year-old lady and the 61-year-old man," Detective Senior Sergeant Stuart Bailey said.

What a disgusting situation. When a 45 yo woman kills a toddler through jealousy (apparently) we need to reconsider our ban on capital punishment.

This article says the little boy's name is Alistair.

I don't want to dig any deeper ATM. They should name this cunt soon.

Alistair Mach
Four-year-old Alistair Mach and his 60-year-old grandmother Mai Mach were found dead in the Varsity Court, Albanvale, home Mrs Mach shared with her husband, Brian Mach. Mr Mach was found bound and gagged inside the home.

Detective Leading Senior Constable Tony Harwood told the hearing that Ms Liao was in a relationship with Mr Mach, which he had recently ended.

The accused arrived at the house about 6am on Tuesday, assaulted Mr Mach and bound him.

She allegedly then entered Alistair's bedroom – he was being babysat while his parents were at work – and attacked him with a pair of garden shears. A port-mortem revealed he had 18 stab and slash wounds, some of which were defensive, Detective Harwood said.

The detective said Ms Liao then waited at the home for 10 hours for Mrs Mach to return home. When she was approaching the rear of the house, Ms Liao allegedly attacked Mrs Mach with the same garden shears, inflicting 23 wounds.

The bail justice asked the accused if she was taking any medication. Ms Liao said she was on high blood pressure medication, but declined to say whether she was taking anything else.

She was remanded in custody and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.

Woman charged with Albanvale murders stabbed boy, grandmother with garden shears, hearing told
A woman accused of the murders of woman and her four-year-old grandson had a relationship with the victim's husband, police allege.

Chinese national Cia Liao allegedly attacked four-year-old Alistair Mach with a pair of garden shears and laid in wait for Mai Mach, 60, to return home from work, Detective Leading Senior Constable Tony Harwood told an out-of-sessions court hearing.

Ms Liao, 45, has been charged with two counts of murder, one count of causing intentional injury and one count of assault and unlawful imprisonment.

She appeared in the St Kilda Road police complex on Wednesday evening and was remanded in custody.

Detective Harwood told the hearing the accused was in Australia on a tourist visa and had been in a relationship with Mrs Mach's husband, Brian, for three years, when his marriage had broken down. The 61-year-old had recently ended his relationship with Ms Liao.

Alistair Mach and his grandmother were found dead in the Varsity Court, Albanvale, home Mrs Mach shared with her husband. Mr Mach was found bound and gagged inside the home.

The hearing was told that Ms Liao turned up at the Albanvale property about 6am on Tuesday, when an argument broke out between Mr Mach and the accused.

Detective Harwood said Ms Liao then assaulted Mr Mach and bound and gagged him, before entering the bedroom where Alistair, who was being babysat by his grandparents while his parents were working, was laying in bed.

Detective Harwood said Ms Liao attacked the boy with a pair of garden shears. An autopsy revealed he had 18 stab and slash wounds, some of which were defensive.

Ms Liao then waited at the home for 10 hours for Mrs Mach to return home, Detective Harwood said. When she was approaching the house's back roar, Ms Liao allegedly attacked Mrs Mach with the same garden shears, inflicting 23 wounds.

A neighbour allegedly witnessed the attack and called police, Detective Harwood said. Ms Liao was arrested at the scene.

Mr Mach was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with minor injuries but was heavily sedated.

Alistair's mother, Amy Mach, is the daughter of Mrs and Mr Mach. He is the only child of Ms Mach and her husband Andrew Kwong.

The accused was asked whether she was taking any medication, to which she said she was taking high blood pressure medication. When asked if she was on anything else, she paused and later said "no comment".

Ms Liao over wise stayed quiet and was assisted by an interpreter assisted her through her short appearance. Detective Harwood said Ms Liao stayed silent during her police interview.

She was remanded in custody and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.

Well, I hope Mr. Mach is prepared to live with the consequences of his actions.
He let a woman overpower him and tie him up and slaughter his family?! What a piece of shit.
I wonder if his poor wife even knew about the affair, or if she spent her last seconds wondering who the crazy lady was and why she was being attacked?

Vic boy, grandma killed with shears: court
Chinese national Cai Liao, 45, is also accused of killing Alistair Mach's grandmother Mai Mach, 60, with the same weapon.

Liao allegedly bound and gagged Brian Mach, Ms Mach's husband, in their Albanvale home on Tuesday morning and then killed Alastair as he lay in bed.

She then allegedly waited for Ms Mach to get home from work before attacking and murdering her in the backyard.

Police allege Liao had been in a relationship with Mr Mach, 61, for about three years, but he had recently called it off.

She went to his Albanvale home about 6am on Tuesday - while he was babysitting his grandson Alistair and his wife was at work - and an argument erupted, Detective Leading Senior Constable Tony Harwood said.

"Brian was assaulted and subdued," he told an out-of-sessions court hearing on Wednesday.

"He's been bound and gagged. The accused entered a bedroom where Alistair was in bed, while carrying a large pair of garden shears."

Det Sen Con Hardwood said Liao allegedly stabbed Alastair as he lay in bed, causing severe head and neck injuries, with a post-mortem revealing he had suffered more than 18 stab and slash wounds.

She then allegedly waited for Ms Mach to arrive home from work, continuing to assault Mr Mach, who was tied up in the living room.

Ms Mach drove into the rear yard of her home and was confronted by Liao as she approached the door, Det Sen Con Hardwood said.

"Mai Mach was chased into the backyard by the accused and attacked with the same pair of garden shears, also suffering extreme neck and head injuries," he said.

She suffered more than 23 stab and slash-type injuries, he said.

Det Sen Con Harwood said the alleged killing was witnessed by a neighbour, who called police.

Mr Mach was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with minor injuries, requiring heavy sedation.

Liao, who is in Australia on a tourist visa, has been remanded in custody to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

She faces two counts of murder and one count each of potentially causing injuries, and assault and unlawful imprisonment.

Expressionless, she declined to comment during the out-of-sessions hearing, only telling the bail justice that she takes blood pressure medication.

That little boy is adorable how could you possibly look at his cute little face then stab him 18 fucking times

I really, really want to see a picture of the hunk of 61 year old that made all this carnage worth it for this evil cunt.

I know it's wrong because he's a victim but damn it I wanna see!!!

I'd like to know how she overpowered him to tie him up. I'm having a hard time with that part. Almost makes me wonder if he was "in on it" but since he supposedly ended the relationship I guess not.

I was about to ask, "What does a 45 year old want with a 61 year old geezer?" but then remembered, much to my chagrin, I once had a brief relationship with a 62 year old when I was 45. So I guess it's not that outrageous.

I can see her overpowering him.

He says, "No. We're done", and turns his back to walk away. And she strikes. Stranglehold from behind, a blunt object to the skull, or possibly even something simple like kicking his feet out from under him. And while he's still rattled she binds his hands and feet.

The attacker always always has the upper hand. It takes time to recognize the attack, to formulate a response, and to respond.

Next appearance will be a committal hearing in July.

Evil puta, I'm sure the whole point in letting her X live and hear what was going on around him is exactly what she wanted physical pain is temporary she wanted his pain to last him she made sure that he would have to live with his decisions forever. His wife and grandchild horrific murders will haunt him forever, I'm sure that was her intention. None of us will fully comprehend how she could murder that gorgeous boy with shears but that's what makes her a psychopath. All I hope is she doesn't have a very nice time in prison or she's executed or beaten to death or hangs herself I don't see the point in wasting taxpayers money on somebody that could murder a child

I agree totally she was out to destroy the husband/grandfather and ensure the loss of his wife and grandchild made him never forget her. If she couldn't have him....he couldn't have his family.
