An Ann Arbor man may have been attempting to get into his apartment when he fell from the sixth floor and injured himself Sunday evening.
The 51-year-old man was hospitalized March 22 after falling at the
public housing complex Miller Manor,
727 Miller Ave., said Ann Arbor Police Department Lt. Renee Bush.
Bush said the incident began when the man was unable to get into his sixth floor apartment on Sunday evening.
He went to a friend's home, also on the sixth floor of the building, she said. There, he made comments about attempting to scale the building to reach his apartment.
The female resident told him that was not a good idea, Bush said.
The resident told police she believed he was heading out to the balcony to get some air when she heard a thud.
Police were called about 8:40 p.m. to investigate a report that a man had fallen or jumped from the building, she said. They arrived to find him with apparent arm and leg injuries, but still conscious. He told police that he had fallen.
Police believe the man was standing on a Rubbermaid storage container, attempting to get onto the railing when he lost his footing, Bush said.
The man was taken to the University of Michigan University Hospital Emergency Room in unstable condition, said Joyce Williams of Huron Valley Ambulance.
On Tuesday morning, hospital status records indicated the man was no longer at the hospital and had likely been discharged, Bush said.
"We wouldn't recommend anyone attempt to scale a building," Bush said.
