A car belonging to a rookie Los Angeles police officer wanted for questioning in a fatal shooting has been found, but the officer remained at large, police said Sunday.

The Volkswagen Jetta belonging to Officer Henry Solis, 27, was found a short distance from the site where a young man was gunned down early Friday in Pomona, police in the suburb east of Los Angeles said in a statement.

Solis was off-duty at the time of the shooting and failed to report to work the next day. Police said they have reason to believe he knows that detectives want to talk to him.

Cmdr. Andrew Smith, a Los Angeles police spokesman, said Solis was assigned to a station in the San Fernando Valley and had not completed his probationary period since joining the force in June.

Pomona police have issued a poster calling Solis a "person of interest" in the shooting that occurred in a downtown bar district after two men got into a fight.

Witnesses told police the attacker fled the scene, and they saw a compact car leaving the area.

Detectives said they don't believe the men who got into the fight knew each other.

An LAPD officer was wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of a man in Pomona, California, officials said Saturday.

Henry Solis, a 27-year-old probationary officer, was sought as a "person of interest,"....

Solis' whereabouts is unknown, and we have reason to believe that he knows the police are looking to talk with him," Pomona police said in a news release.

LAPD officials said Solis did not show up to work Saturday and they have not been able to locate him. Foul play was not believed to be a factor in the officer's disappearance.

LAPD Commander Andrew Smith said Solis was a "probationer police officer" who entered the police academy in June 2014. Solis was assigned to Devonshire Division in November 2014 and has been working there with a training officer. His probationary period was set to end in November 2015.

Police were searching for Solis in connection with the killing of a 23-year-old man who was shot after getting into a fight with another man in Pomona early Friday morning.
Solis was off-duty at the time, police said.

Officers responding to multiple 911 calls of shots fired in the area of Third and Main streets about 3:30 a.m. found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body, Pomona Police Department officials said.

The victim, identified by police as Ontario resident Salome Rodriguez, Jr., was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he later died.

Homicide detectives said Rodriguez and the gunman had gotten into a "physical altercation" prior to the shooting. They don't believe the men knew each other and say the incident was not gang related.

Gunned down a complete stranger over a bar fight? With poor impulse control like that it's a good thing he wasn't out terrorizing the citizenry for long. Shame it came about at the expense of a young man's life, though. I imagine if he'd been on duty at the time he'd have gotten away with it, too.

LOS ANGELES, CA– A Los Angeles police officer charged with murder in the shooting death of a local truck driver had his father’s help in fleeing California and traveling to Texas, court documents filed Thursday said.

Henry Solis, a Los Angeles Police Department rookie, is accused of killing 23-year-old Salome Rodriguez Jr. early in the morning of March 13 in Pomona. Solis disappeared shortly after the shooting.

Items left by Solis at the crime scene allowed Pomona police detectives to identify him “as the individual responsible for killing Rodriguez,” according to an affidavit signed Thursday by FBI Special Agent Scott Garriola.

The document goes on to say that Solis made “incriminating statements about his role in the murder” to friends, family members and others, and said he would never be seen again.

The affidavit says his father, Victor Solis, quickly left his home in Lancaster after receiving a call from him. The elder Solis was seen a day later in El Paso, Texas, at the home of family members.

He told FBI agents he drove his son to El Paso, dropped him off at a bus station and doesn’t know where he is.

If this cop has been charged, officially, why isn't dad being arrested for aiding and abetting? The son is a fugitive from the law.
And El Paso? Dad knows he fled into Mexico, and I'd bet the farm he knows where across the border he's headed.

A former Los Angeles police officer's father, who authorities say helped his son flee across the border to Mexico to avoid facing murder charges, was arrested on Thursday and accused of lying to federal agents, the FBI said.

Victor Solis, 53, was taken into custody at a home where he lived in Lancaster, east of Los Angeles, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said. He was expected to make an initial appearance in federal court later on Thursday afternoon.

His son, Henry Solis, who was a probationary Los Angeles police officer at the time, is accused of shooting Salome Rodriguez Jr. to death on March 13, in downtown Pomona, California following a fight there.

Good.

A fugitive LAPD officer wanted for murder is still on the loose, but his dad was arrested Thursday after allegedly helping the rookie cop make a cross-country escape, telling authorities he dropped his son off at a bus stop in Texas.

Victor Solis, 53, was arrested at his Lancaster, Calif. home and charged in a federal court in El Paso, Texas, with making false statements to FBI agents after they released surveillance images showing the elder Solis crossing the border into Mexico with his son.

Henry Solis has been on the run since he shot and killed 23-year-old Salome Rodriguez Jr. during an off-duty altercation outside a Pomona, Calif. nightclub on March 13, police claim.

The FBI said the 27-year-old Solis walked to Juarez, Mexico from El Paso with his dad, one day after the murder.

Victor Solis initially told authorities he didn't know where his son was.

FBI are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Henry Solis.
At a hearing in Los Angeles, Solis agreed to be transferred to Texas to face the charge and was ordered held without bail, City News Service reported.

He could face up to five years in federal prison if convicted.

Don't like hearing the old man got charged. We don't know what the son told him. He may have led him to believe that it was a self defense type of deal, in which case i can't blame a parent for trying to protect their loved one from the often corrupt law.

Found him in Mexico

A fugitive former Los Angeles police officer charged with killing a man while off-duty evaded authorities for more than two months by moving between the homes of family members in Mexico, staying mostly indoors and avoiding cellphones and social media, the FBI said Wednesday.

Henry Solis, 27, was arrested Tuesday in Ciudad Juarez in northern Mexico and deported to El Paso, Texas, where he's being held in a city jail as he awaits proceedings for extradition to California, El Paso police spokesman Darrel Petry said.

Solis was sought in the shooting death of Salome Rodriguez, 23, outside a nightclub in Pomona, California, on March 13. Solis was a probationary officer at the Los Angeles Police Department and was off-duty when investigators say he got into a fight with Rodriguez at the club and shot him several times after chasing him down.

With the help of his father, Solis fled for Mexico after the shooting, authorities said. Solis was fired by Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck and urged to surrender.

To avoid detection in Mexico, Solis moved between the homes of uncles, cousins and aunts on his dad's side and stayed indoors, said FBI agent Scott Garriola, who heads the agency's Fugitive Task Force in Los Angeles.

"As we say in the trade, he was laying pretty low," Garriola said. "I mean, you don't go out frequently, you don't communicate."

"A former Los Angeles police officer accused of fatally shooting a man at a bar and then fleeing to Mexico in 2015 was convicted by a jury this week, prosecutors said.

Henry Solis, 32, faces up to 40 years to life in prison when he is sentenced March 11, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said in a statement.

He was convicted Wednesday of second-degree murder for the March 13, 2015, shooting death of Salome Rodriguez outside a bar in Pomona, east of Los Angeles."

It's very hard to buy into his defense at all given the fact he ran. If he truly, genuinely felt he was acting within his duties/responsibilities as an officer, and truly felt what he was doing was legal/warranted in that capacity, why did he run after shooting the dude???? It doesn't make any sense. Can you imagine a uniformed officer shooting a suspect and then just bailing??? It doesn't happen. The guy is so full of shit.

"The city responded to the lawsuit, saying that it "lacks sufficient information" but noted that Solis' actions were "reasonable and necessary for self-defense," according to documents."

Interesting.

So the city initially fights the lawsuit by saying the dude was acting in reasonable self defense. At the same time, they prosecuted him for 2nd degree murder. Pretty fucking scummy. What greedy pricks seeking to shaft this poor family.

Wonder what this conviction will do to the lawsuit defense. Very interested in where this leads.
