Victorian storms: Toddler killed, girl taken to hospital
A two-year-old boy has died and a girl has suffered serious injuries after a tree fell on their house at The Patch in the Dandenong Ranges, east of Melbourne, as severe thunderstorms swept through Victoria last night.

Emergency services were called to the home about 9:00pm (AEDT) and had to rescue two adults and a five-year-old girl.
...
"Two Urban Search And Rescue (USAR) trained paramedics crawled under the tree to find the young boy and unfortunately he had died," Mr Davis said.

"A young girl was freed and taken to the Royal Children's Hospital suffering bruising to her face and chest and an injury to her leg."

The adults also received injuries, Ambulance Victoria said.

Neighbour Warren Soussa said he heard an huge crashing noise during the storm but thought it was a car crash.
...
You don't expect these things to happen in your community but when it does, and to such nice people, it's very upsetting.

Eli's five-year old sister Nicola had been on the couch in the living room when she was pinned under the collapsed structure. A total of four of the seven people in the house were trapped. Nicola was badly injured but is in a stable condition at the Royal Children's Hospital and is no longer in intensive care.

"They located her quite quickly but had to do a fair bit of work to get her out," CFA operations manager Mark Kennedy said. "She had significant trauma.
