A man has gone on trial accused of raping a toddler at an Inverness-shire nursery.

Mark Maclennan, 30, denies raping the boy at the nursery when the child was two or three years old between 1 August 2012 and 23 May 2013.

Maclennan, from Bath, has also denied sexual abusing a young girl and boy at the nursery.

In other charges he has been accused of sexually assaulting a girl in Stirling, Dunblane and Dunfermline.

It has been alleged that she was assaulted on various occasions from the ages of 12 to 15 between October 2007 and July 2010.

Maclennan is also accused of, between February 2009 and May 2013, having in his possession indecent photographs of children at the nursery and at an address in Stirling, and between 22 February and 28 March 2009 taking, or permitting to be taken, indecent photographs of children.

He denies all the charges against him.

Wtf, just like Kat Williams said no one accuses you of child rape over and over and over again unless you are raping children. #Guilty

I believe the pictures kind of give his intentions with the children, away.

A man who was found guilty of raping a young boy and sexually abusing a girl has been jailed for eight years.

Mark Maclennan, 30, of Bath, also admitted possessing and taking indecent images of children.

Judge John Morris QC told MacLennan that the crimes had been of a "particularly vile nature" and that only a substantial prison sentence would be appropriate.

He added: "Both of these young people were entitled to feel safe."

MacLennan, who was also found guilty of having thousands of indecent images of children on a laptop that he donated to the nursery, was placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

A charge of sexually abusing a girl at the nursery when she was aged between four and five was found not proven by the jury.
