'We will not give up hope': police continue search for missing three-year-old boy

Police are widening the search for a missing three-year-old boy last seen wearing a Spiderman outfit on the NSW mid-north coast, pledging to search through the night and tomorrow if necessary.

William Tyrell disappeared from the front yard of a Kendall property around 10.30am yesterday.

He was on a family holiday at the Benaroon Drive home with his parents and sister.

Superintendent Paul Fehon said he was unsupervised for just five minutes before he disappeared.

Emergency crews were on the scene within six minutes and immediately started the search.

William Tyrell search enters fourth day as police investigate possible abduction and other scenarios
Police have been optimistic in their search for William since he went missing about 10.30am Friday, hopeful to find him curled up seeking warmth, weary and resting after days without food or water.
...
But as the search enters its fourth day without having uncovered any trace of William — not even a shoe, a trail or any torn bits of clothing — it’s looking less likely that William will show up alive.

While 30 extra SES volunteers have been deployed from as far as Sydney to join the rescue team, already 200 strong, along with aircrews, mountain police and search dogs, police have conceded they are also investigating “other scenarios” that could have led to William’s disappearance.

Wow that doesn't sound like very many searchers for this little boy. They need to get hundreds of searchers. Call on the public to help. Come on...this boy can't survive out there much longer on his own. What the hell. Are they using air searches and dogs??

I take that back...I read the links. What an adorable little boy. I hope they find him alive.

William Tyrell: Police acknowledge missing boy could not survive six days in bushland
...
"The experts cannot substantiate that survival in the bush would be there at this point in time," he said.

But he said there was still no solid evidence that he did wander into the bush.

Specialist police, including the sex crimes squad, have been brought in to investigate the possibility the boy was abducted.

They have formed Strike Force Rosann and are continuing to canvass local residents, as well as examine possible sightings from all over the state.
...
"We're still open-minded in regards to what has happened to young William.
...
Police said they had no plans to scale back the search as yet.
...
Police divers will continue to wade through local waterways after spending the past few days searching dams on nearby properties.

I take that back...I read the links. What an adorable little boy. I hope they find him alive.

William's family/spokespersons, police & media have seemed very optimistic that it was just a case of him wandering off to explore. I thought for sure this was the case as well.

I saw speculation that today might be the last full scale day.

I"m leaning towards this little guy being abducted after there have been no signs of the boy at all with massive searches. They say he was not one to wander off. On the other hand they say he was adventurous and was wearing his Spiderman costume/pajamas. So perhaps he was into some kind of imaginary play and did wander off. So frustrating knowing he is out there without his family and in so much danger regardless of what transpired.

William Tyrell: Someone knows something about missing boy, police say
...
"In a way it's baffling that we haven't received any further leads considering the time that has passed since he went missing," Inspector Fehon said.

"The report of a young three year old playing in the backyard and then in the space of five minutes being found to be missing, of course the natural reaction was to search in the heavily dense bushland.

"We can only appeal for people out there, if human intervention took place, someone knows something."

Thursday and Friday police set up road blocks and were questioning drivers about the 12th & have also been search roadsides for discarded items/rubbish.

Today William’s family issued this statement:
William is only three years and three-months-old and really still a baby, he has so many more years to live and we desperately want him home. William up until a month ago was obsessed with all things Fire Engine and would tell us his name was “Firefighter William”… a future he deserves to fulfil.

To the residents of Benaroon Drive: Within minutes of hearing that William was missing everyone came out and helped with the search, we were amazed at how quickly you came to help. Thank you. We would also like to say a big thank you for your patience and co-operation with Police in the search for little William.

To the Police: As well as William loving all things Fire Engines and Fire Fighters he was also enamoured by the Police and he would have been beside himself to see the amount of Police Cars and Police officers at Nana’s house. And also, like all little boys, he would have been asking you about your guns! We know how hard you have all been working – your dedication to finding little William has astounded us and we, from the bottom of our hearts, say “thank you so much”; it has given us strength and hope that William will be returned to us soon. We also want to thank those of you who we have got to know for your personal support and commitment to the search for William.

To the SES: We have seen you day and night searching for William; even when we couldn’t sleep at 3am we saw you walking around with torches and driving the cars. We thank you deeply and we know that for each and every one of you “it’s more than just a job”.

To the Surf Life Saving & RFS: Thank you for taking the time away from your families and your other volunteering efforts.

To the Kendall community: You are amazing, every day we would hear how many volunteers had shown up at the showground and every day the numbers got bigger. People had taken time off work, we saw a lady pushing a pram and holding a baby on her front walking looking for William, we saw a man walking his push bike looking for William, and we saw everyday people just like us in the bush and on the road looking for our little boy. And every day – all through the day – people were dropping off food and drinks to support the searchers.

Thank you so much! You should feel very proud of yourselves and the community.

Finally we wish to reinforce that if anyone has seen or heard anything (no matter how insignificant it may be) to contact the Police.

We pray and hope that our “firefighter William” comes home soon.

If that doesn't rip your heart out, you ain't got one. Hope you come running out of the woods very soon, Firefighter William.

Yeah, I cried. I'm watching my little "army men" run around the yard. I can't imagine one second they are laughing and the next, nothing. ok, my heart is in my stomach, or my stomach is in my chest...either way I'm aching for his family

No leads, but some more details leading of that morning & the investigation will continue indefinitely.

Six weeks and police admit they have no leads on whether William wandered off or was abducted
Superintendent Paul Fehon is careful with the language he uses, mindful to not cause more distress to William’s family. Detectives with the homicide squad and the child sex abuse squad have both been helping with the inquiry
...
the two children were chasing each other around outside the back of their grandmother’s house.

The house is at the closed end of Benaroon Drive, a cul-de-sac, and surrounded on three sides by bush. William’s mum went to make a cup of tea. His grandmother was sitting in the garden.

The boy was out of sight for between one and five minutes. No one heard a car, no one heard any screams or cries.

His four-year-old sister did not see what happened. But William had gone.

Within five minutes, his parents raised the alarm and ran to alert neighbours. Within 20 minutes the police were there. By 1pm, there were more than 100 people searching.

“If he has just wandered off of his own accord and met with misadventure, we would have found something by now,” Supt Fehon said.

“We can’t rule out opportunistic human intervention but if that was the case, then the chances of everything aligning for that to take place is unbelievable.
...
Every one of the 21 houses in the exclusive estate around the grandmother’s house have been searched from top to bottom twice, including roof cavities and septic tanks.
...
Strike Force Rosann is now following up hundreds of calls to CrimeStoppers including sightings of William. Even reports from clairvoyants
...
The investigation will go on indefinitely. “You can’t let a three-year-old boy just go missing and not continue with the investigation,” he said.

I can't begin to even imagine what his parents and family must feel. This is truly heartbreaking. I have no idea what it would feel like to be missing a child and to just not know where he is or what has happened to him. My prayers go out to his family and his mother. I pray they find him.

I know one article mentioned that the Investigators are even looking into tips from psychics, I wonder if they've considered hypnotism for his little sister, maybe their is something buried in her subconscious that could answer all of these questions. I know it's a long shot, but I bet the family would be willing to try anything to bring him home.

The family has never appeared in public. Photos of his parents were never released. How is that "the family willing to try everything"?
Maybe seeing the parents' faces would have jogged someone's memory.

Maybe now that homicide is investigating they'll take a second look at how quickly the parents were cleared of involvement.

Update this happened today so will take a few days/weeks to see if something comes of it.

Unstoppable tears now..
As a mom, OMG. I CANNOT imagine!!
What a beautiful child! My heart literally hurts right now. The soul sucking anxiety and grief his family must be feeling... I. Just. Can't.

He disappeared on my son's birthday. My son's name, is also William. At 3, my Wil would chase down a fireman to hug them. I could not get him out of his Spiderman costume- or his firefighter rain jacket and boots/hat. (He won't let me pass them on.. I still have them packed away.)

Crying my face off now, as I think about his poor family. I cannot imagine the nightmare they are living- the sheer terror of not knowing where their baby is or what happened to him. Oh.My.GOD!
I need to pull myself together and go snuggle up to my baby now. Hold him, watch him sleep..
