About a half hour later, a Utah Valley University officer stopped a car matching the Pontiac’s description, with a man and woman inside. Orem police brought the Zales employee to the scene, and she identified the man in the car as the one who took the ring

The man and woman were arrested and brought to the police department. Officers searched for the ring based on the suspects’ stories, such as it being tossed out the car window or possibly still being in the vehicle, but they could not find it,

Then, after "several wild goose chases, we found out that [the woman] had swallowed the ring in attempt to hide it when they were pulled over by police,"

At a local hospital, an X-ray confirmed that she had, indeed, swallowed the ring

Both she and the man were booked into the Utah County Jail under suspicion of theft.
Martinez on Sunday indicated authorities were still waiting to recover the ring.

Martinez said Bryan Ford, 30, had been looking at a ring worth “several thousand dollars” when took it and left the store.

Ford got into a Pontiac G6 with a female driver, who Martinez identified as Christina Schlegel, 25. The pair left the scene going westbound. The license plate of the vehicle was covered with pink sticky notes,

An officer spotted a car matching the description of the vehicle about half an hour later. The officer stopped the car about 1.5 miles away at the Ventana Apartments on 1386 S. 400 West in Orem,

Officers brought a Zales employee to the scene, and “she positively identified the man as the person who stole the ring,” Martinez said. Ford and Schlegel were then taken into custody.
“At the time, our officers were unable to find the stolen ring,”
