Baby dies in Albertville child abuse case; couple facing stiffer charges
ALBERTVILLE, Alabama -- An Albertville couple charged with aggravated child abuse earlier this week will be facing more serious charges later today after their baby died.

Bridgett Duncan, 24, of 306 Katherine Drive and her boyfriend Immanuel Gage Allen, 17, of 132 Denise Circle, were arrested early Wednesday morning after deputies and ambulance personnel were dispatched to Denise Circle on a non-responsive child call.

The 11-month-old child, Gemma LaShae Moore, had serious injuries consistent with "shaken baby syndrome" according to Sheriff Scott Walls. Walls said today that the child died just after 5 p.m. Thursday and an autopsy is being conducted.

"Investigators are working with the District Attorney's office to upgrade the charges on both Duncan and Allen, that could happen later today," he said. Both remain in the Marshall County Jail under $2 million bonds.

Meanwhile, prosecutors filed a motion to lower the bond for 24-year-old Bridgett Duncan from two million to ten thousand on her aggravated child abuse charges.

Prosecutors said new information questions just what role, if any, Duncan had in the crime.

"That any information with regard to her would have occurred several days prior to the injuries that were inflicted on death, we continue to evaluate those charges. We'll discuss whether or not those need to be changed, whether or not they need to be raised, whether or not they need to be dismissed. But that decision will continue to be made in the future based on additional forensic information we intend to receive," said Marshall County District Attorney Steve Marshall.

Duncan is now out on bond.

Meanwhile, Allen is currently being held in the Blount County Jail without bond.

An Albertville teenager charged with capital murder in the death of an infant has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

Monday morning, Immanuel Gage Allen pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He was charged with capital murder in the death of an 11-month-old child in 2012.

Allen was 17 at the time of the crime. He was the boyfriend of the child’s mother, Bridgett Duncan, who was charged with aggravated child abuse.

The baby’s name was Gemma Moore.

When the baby was rushed to the hospital, medical staff detected signs of shaken baby syndrome. In court Monday, District Attorney Steve Marshall said had this case gone to trial, prosecutors planned to produce witnesses that said Moore had been severely shaken and died from blunt force trauma.
