Police say a 15-month-old suburban New York girl found dead Friday showed signs of trauma and was very cold, indicating her body might have been put in a freezer.

The Journal News reports the child's mother, 26-year-old Dasia Bartee, was arrested Saturday in the death of Samia Yusef.

Officials say the child had been dead for hours before police arrived at the family's Mount Vernon apartment on Friday.

Police say she showed evidence of trauma to the face and internal bleeding. In what investigators called an "unusual situation," sources tell CBS New York the girl's body was "ice cold," suggesting she might have been put in a freezer.

Mount Vernon Police Commissioner Ronald Fatigate called it "a gruesome discovery."

Bartee's two other daughters, 6 and 9, were at the home when police arrived, the station reports. They were unharmed and are now in the custody of child protective services. Fatigate told reporters there has been a history of Child Protective Services investigations at the home involving Bartee and her daughters.

Bartee appeared in court Monday and was charged with first-degree manslaughter, Mount Vernon police tell Crimesider. A judge ordered her held on $50,000 bond.

It's not clear if she has an attorney who could speak for her.

"It's really deeply disturbing," Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas told CBS New York. "No child, no infant, no toddler should be subjected to that type of violence."['quote]

A Mount Vernon mother charged with killing her baby girl last August was sentenced Tuesday to nearly two decades in prison.

In February, 27-year-old Deasia Bartee pleaded guilty to repeatedly hitting 14-month-old Samia Yusuf in the back, causing internal bleeding and a spine fracture. Police say they found the baby unresponsive inside the family's home on Washington Street.

Prosecutors say Yusuf was the victim of abuse from the day she was born. They say Bartee had the child living in squalor and filth and that she starved the child for her entire life.

"She was not feeding this child to the point where the child weighed 14 pounds at 14 ½ months old - a third of the weight she should have been," said Assistant District Attorney Mary Clark-DiRusso.

Prosecutors say Bartee has never once showed remorse for her crime and that she declined when given a chance to speak Tuesday.

I was thinking this EXACTLY! I don't understand how that works... She'll likely kill another progeny if she's able to breed again in her lifetime (meaning if she's able to con someone into impregnating her and or if she hasn't gone through menopause or had anything that would medically impair her ability to get pregnant).

Her other two children were fine, so she apparently singled out Samia for abuse.

A felony complaint obtained by The Washington Post states that her mother, Dasia Bartee, 26, allegedly struck her in the back "six to seven times" with a closed fist to stop her from crying. She suffered significant injuries to her face, a lumbar fracture and internal bleeding.
