On Tuesday afternoon, someone at Florida Presbyterian Homes called 911 to report seeing an alligator in the lake that had a body in its mouth.

Police responded to the scene and told WFLA TV that they saw the gator with the body. The alligator then released the body from its mouth..

Right now, police are trying to keep the alligator away from the body so they can remove the body from the water. The body is that of a man, police said.

A state alligator trapper responded to the scene around 3 p.m. to help catch the gator. As of 4 p.m., the trapper was on the lake with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers. There are two alligators that keep showing up in the lake, but they have not been able to capture them. Around 4:25 p.m, the gator trapper returned to shore to set out a buoy with bait. He was unable to find and hook the gator by hand.

Lakeland police are investigating the identity of the man. No other details have been released.

Florida Presbyterian Homes is a senior living community located at 16 Lake Hunter Drive in Lakeland.

Maybe they'd better do a head count at Florida Presbyterian Homes. :nailbiting:

Looks like it's the new way to get rid of a body in Florida, let the gators do the hard work, they work for scraps.

Maybe it's just the wording, but reports of seeing a gator with a body in its mouth brings to mind a monster of Lake Placid dimensions. Is some old lady from the senior's home feeding the wildlife?

Darn that Betty White lol.

The guy could have been dead before going onto the lake. The gators were probably thinking ohh a nice little snack.

Body has been ID'd. Stupid ass link title, considering that the entire post is about how an identification was made.

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — Lakeland police on Friday identified the man whose body was found in an alligator ‘s mouth earlier this week.

Lakeland Police Department Sergeant Gary Gross identified the man as Richard Zachary Taylor, age 72. Police say he did not have a permanent address.

Taylor was identified by his fingerprints. Police say he had been in the Lakeland area for about ten years and was originally from South Carolina.

Even if the man was already dead he still would have been a tasty snack for the gator.

On Tuesday afternoon, at 1:40 someone at Florida Presbyterian Homes called 911 to report seeing an alligator in the lake that had a body in its mouth.

Police responded to the scene and told WFLA TV that they saw the gator with the body.

“The officers got here and the alligator still had the person. He let the individual go, he is deceased, looks like this person may have been dead more than a day,” said Sgt. Gary Gross from Lakeland Police.

It’s not clear if the gator killed the man or how he died. “We don’t want to speculate but I will tell when the officer got here the alligator did a roll and had the person in contact with him,” added Gross.

Is this part of the merged thread? I feel it's a lost cause now. Eh, gators and snakes eating people, are they really that different?

I can understand the confucius! I heart you @Subrosa!

Yes part of gator thread. It was a dup and just got merged into this one. Now it's moved to the correct thread so we lost SGT Gross.

Ha! Thanks! The last time I had this happen it was a merge of two stories about sex. One being about a little boy being raped and the other about a pervert. It was a disjointed mess. I think I got all the gator posts moved over now.

never will forget when there was a major plane wreck over the everglades, apparently some company had put merchandise o nthe plane that didn't belong and it blew up. The first responders had to have men with rifles shot where they were going to go to and it was ugly. Allot of the passengers were missing or missing parts and the emer resp were almost grabbed repeatedly. There's a few good indepth articles in Miami papers but here's the wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ValuJet_Flight_592

Yes the gator is a beauty. Hopefully the onlookers still respect the distance. They are capable of quick burst of speeds on land.

Did you know they don't like humans they gnaw on them but almost always spit out.
True they might keep a dead body near them to keep other animal's away But they hardly ever devour a human body all the way
that was something that was said and came up in one of the early episodes of nip and tuck but with alrady dead and then some bodies they don't seem to have that much of an issue. Maybe they need to marinate a bit, idk, I will take chunks or try to and they will try to roll and drown ya too
