A sobbing 9-year-old called 911 with a horrific report: “My grandmas are on the ground.”

“I was at my grandma’s house with my two younger sisters and I don’t know what happened,” said the 9-year-old, who said she was with her newborn and toddler sisters. “I just heard them falling down and next thing I know, I’m panicking because they’re on the ground.”

About 9 minutes into the call, first responders can be heard entering the residence.
[....]
The child reported she was in an apartment with her two younger siblings — ages 2 years and 2 months, and that their mother was on her way but still an hour away.

“We were greeted at the door by two small children with tears running down their faces,” wrote the reporting police officer in the incident report.

Police and medics located two unresponsive women when they arrived. One was halfway in the living room near the children. The other was in an area near the kitchen and bathroom.

Leslie Harbarger, 45, was given 12 milligrams of narcan. Angela Benda, 47, was given 16 milligrams of narcan.
[....]
Benda and Harbarger were transported to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment. They were cited for endangering children and were issued a summons to appear in court.

“It should be noted that fire crews used every dose of narcan they were carrying and I had to give two doses of my issued narcan,” the reporting officer wrote.

According to police, Benda reported she ingested one heroin cap. Harbarger denied taking heroin, but said was known to abuse her prescription medication.

Montgomery County Children Services was notified about the incident.

Can't even trust your grandmas to stay sober and watch your children now.

:(

The Opioid epidemic is unlike anything we have seen before. Now there's fentanyl in a ton of it, people dropping dead left and right. Only like 10 years ago they were pushing OxyContin in commercials and now they're pushing opioid related constipation pills... big Pharma - FUCK THEM.

If this was meth ...this would be a story about sexual abuse too! Not just two addicted old birds falling down. I hope her mom has a talk with her ... Honey ... next time this happens ... don't call the police. And if anyone tries to touch your vagina tell them to fuck off sweet heart.
[doublepost=1490712435,1490712130][/doublepost]Constipation is Torment! Once during pregnancy and OMG. Madness ... I was angry all the time.

OMG. :hilarious::hilarious:
This is totally not funny, but it is.. I just died a little bit. God help me, for laughing as hard as I just did. But it's true. I just laughed my ass off.
Now I feel shameful and dirty cuz I did laugh. :sorry:

I used to do alot of meth and i never touched anybodys vagina. Well, nobody that didnt want me to...lol. Not any childs for damn sure!

Poor kids.

This heroin epidemic is insane. Before it was only paid employees who were trained for narcan.

On Friday I have to go to another training session. And get a narcan kit I'm supposed to carry with me now. I'm sure this is costing us enough in tax dollars and 80% of these people will just over dose again and again and again.

Rather my tax dollars go to kids then heroin addict TBH

Pain specialists (anesthesiologists) love to push oxicodone/oxicontin on their chronic pain patients to use for *years*, but those drugs are not really meant for long term use; they're for short term, like after surgery.
IDK if it's kickback from pharma companies or what, but it seems to be the first suggestion by these doctors, instead of morphine, which is meant for long term use.
When my impingement became so unbearable that I couldn't sleep for days due to pain, my MD prescribed
morphine, saying "Sorry, we don't give oxi here.", I told her that was fine, I don't want that shit. Too many OD's, deaths, and addictions. I also went off the morphine ASAP after surgery, less than a month, and 3 months earlier than my neurologist (surgeon) wanted, and was grateful to be off that shit too.
People abusing opioids make it so much harder for those who are in real need of these medications
to get them, and I despise those who sell their prescriptions for this reason.
Fentanyl is really for those who're terminal, or have built up tolerance to opioids after decades and experiencing pain levels that we can't begin to fathom, the fact that this level drug makes it to the streets is mind boggling, and people dealing it are depraved AF.
[doublepost=1491937383,1491832021][/doublepost]Bless this little girl, for knowing to call 911, trying to care for her younger siblings, and having the strength and courage to answer the door and explain to EMS responders/LE what happened and how she handled it all. I hope she continues to have such strengths through her live, and to inspire her siblings so that they may all rise above this circumstances in their lives, be well and thrive.

Having volunteered as a first responder (EMT/FF) several years before spinal issues necessitated resigning, I do understand such frustrations, but can not agree with them.
EMS personnel also take a "no harm" oath, similar to the doctor's Hippocratic Oath, and the pledge taken by most nurses upon graduation:

The Nightingale Pledge:

"As I enter the nursing profession I pledge to:
Use all the knowledge, skills, and understanding that I possess when providing professional nursing care.
Deliver nursing care non-judgmentally and to all those who require it, to the best of my ability.
Refrain from any action which might be harmful to the quality of life or health of those I care for.
Treat each client with respect.
Hold in professional confidence all the personal information entrusted to me.
Keep my professional knowledge and skills at the highest level give my support and cooperation to all members of the health care team.
contribute to the advancement of the nursing profession.
Maintain my nursing practice in accordance with the professional nursing standards required for my profession."

For some people, the medical field is considered a career choice; for others, it's both their job and advocation combined. The latter are the people who felt a "calling", and answered with hearts and arms wide open.

"They were cited for endangering children"

Why were they not charged with any drug crimes? I don't understand.

Its very unfortunate they didn't die. Not sure i understand the point of the narcon bullshit. Fuck these shitheads. They deserve to die and are of no use to anyone.

Was this Dayton i wonder? Just says Montgomery county/miami valley. What a fucking shithole.

I don't think they deserve to die. But I'd rather see our tax dollars go to the care of our homeless vets, illiterate children, homeless shelters, etc... But that's just me.
Bottoms line - there is a point in your life when being a drug addict has consequences... If that's death or over dose then that was your choice to first start using.
Instead of paying for narcan to save addicts on the street, I'd rather it go to other avenues of TRUE rehabilitation.

The first time a responder decides that someone doesn't 'deserve' to be saved with narcon is inevitably going to result in discovering that the person OD'ing was given the drug by force or trickery. They can't make those decisions, and shouldn't be expected to do so.

Agreed, also a great analogy. Another consideration is that every time you treat an addict the same way you treat all of your patients, there is always a chance, however slight, that you are lifting them up and inspiring them to get clean, better themselves and go forward into a life of helping others in return.
Whether paid, or volunteers, EMS workers change lives in many more ways than just by their medical, LE, or firefighting expertise alone.

I would never think that you even implied that (deserving death), and as I said, I understand the frustrations. The hardest are the times you see the addict (or drunk) you're working on lets their kids go without because their addiction has become their "priority".
But, if we don't do our best to help them as a society, and from an EMS/medical professional standpoint,
then that 20% successful rehab percentage drops to nothing.
Think of it as 20 patients that are a successful save from a life-threatening condition that kills 80% of the time.

ETA: And yes, our vet's, disadvantaged children, and homeless deserve better from us as a nation/society. Too many vets make up a majority of our homeless, and this has got to stop, they did right by all of us, and we should return them the courtesy.

Ughhh... I hate this. My brother just OD'd a month ago. My dad found him damn near dead. He was black. And they had to use narcan too. He's good now. But doesn't think he needs help. But he went to the hospital stayed 5 hours and they let him go home. Didn't get any charges or anything.

It does say the age. She is the one this is written about. Not sure why you are blaming mom for something she didn't do, but whatever. Copy/paste or not you were spamming the same thing everywhere. Not offended, annoyed.
