A Bath man faces a felony assault charge after police say he threw an infant into a chair, causing a serious head injury.

On May 23, the Steuben County Child Protective Unit received a report involving serious injuries to an infant, including a fractured skull, a subdural hematoma and retinal hemorrhaging.
According to police, Hoose is accused of throwing the child into a chair, which resulted in the child’s head impacting a wall.

Following an investigation, Hoose was arrested and charged with reckless assault of a child, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
The child is no longer hospitalized but is receiving medical care, said state police Senior Investigator Curt Eaton.
Hoose was arraigned before Village of Bath Justice James Burns and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to reappear in Bath Village Court on June
