A man who murdered and raped a 15-year-old girl has been found guilty of falsely imprisoning her.

Stephen Beadman, 29, had previously admitted the murder and rape of Kayleigh Haywood in Leicestershire.

The jury is yet to reach a verdict on co-defendant Luke Harlow, 28, who admitted engaging in sexual activity with the teenager, but denied a false imprisonment charge, last year.

The 15-year-old's body was found in a field outside Ibstock five days after she was last seen outside Ibstock Community College. An inquest heard she died from head and facial injuries.

Kayleigh was kept prisoner at Harlow's home between about 21:00 BST on Saturday 14 November and 03:00 on 15 November, the prosecution told the court.

She and Harlow had been exchanging messages via social media.

The unemployed former media studies student has admitted attempting to meet two other 15-year-old girls for sexual purposes and had contacted a 13-year-old too.

On the evening of Friday 13 November, Harlow and Kayleigh met for the first time. He admitted sexually touching her after she had been drinking heavily.

Earlier in the trial, he denied Beadman's barrister's suggestion Kayleigh had escaped after she awoke to find he and Beadman arguing because Harlow had allegedly attempted to rape her while she slept.

Dirty damned predator rapist
Anyone over the age of 15 that can look at a girl that young and think yum yum, needs to be put down like a friggin' rabid dog.

So he's a pedophile and a predator. A kidnapper and a murderer. 4 very nasty things. I hope he gets life without parole, but I doubt the UK judiciary will do that. They tend to reserve those kind of sentences for the worst of the worst. This monster will probably walk free in 10-15 years.

Poor girl.

This is something all parents should have their daughters and sons watch regardless of its adult content and the article is excellent. The same with suseptable adults. There are people out there that want to prey on you.

  • A chilling film about a Leicestershire schoolgirl who was groomed online before being raped and murdered has been published online.

The video, called Kayleigh’s Love Story, shows how 15-year-old Measham girl Kayleigh Haywood was bombarded with messages from a stranger over a period of two weeks.

Kayleigh was eventually persuaded to spend the night at Luke Harlow’s house in Ibstock before his neighbour, Stephen Beadman, dragged the teenager into nearby woodland, where he raped and murdered her.

The five-minute film was made by Leicestershire Police to warn of the dangers of grooming and sexual exploitation.

It was shown to 35,764 secondary school children across the county at 1,000 controlled screenings by a team of Police Community Support Officers last year.

The screenings gave 35 children the courage to come forward and report possible cases of grooming to officers, Leicestershire Police said.

The force has now released the full video online in the hope that it will encourage more victims to seek help and support.

The multiple award-winning film begins with Kayleigh receiving a flood of affectionate text messages on October 31, 2015, from Harlow that continue for two weeks.

It shows how Kayleigh was lured into Harlow’s home before Beadman, 29, sexually assaulted the girl and dumped her body in a woods.

He was found guilty of false imprisonment following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court on June 28, where he also admitting grooming two separate girls.

Harlow was jailed for 12 years.

On April 5, Beadman, 29, pleaded guilty to rape and murder.

On June 7, he was also found guilty of false imprisonment and was given a life sentence in which he will serve a minimum of 35 years.

The video ends by warning: “Stop and think. When you meet someone online, you don’t always know who you are talking to.”

Leicestershire’s deputy chief constable Roger Bannister said: “What happened to Kayleigh was horrific but we are pleased that some good is coming from the awful tragedy and that this film is raising far greater awareness of the dangers of online grooming and the signs that it may be happening. They are signs that we can all look out for and do something about - before it is too late.

“We felt it was critical that we showed the film to local schoolchildren first, in structured screenings where our staff could discuss with children the issues raised by the film, before we made it more widely available.

“That said, we did release the film to all other police forces in the UK in the summer in order that they could also arrange specific screenings with partners and children before the general release date next week.”

The film was made with the support of Kayleigh’s parents, Stephanie and Martin.

Thank you ... this is awesome. We need more stories like this one in classrooms. Hell we need almost every single story here in classrooms .

A man has pleaded guilty to attempting to meet schoolgirl Kayleigh Haywood for sex days before her rape and murder.

Bruce Cordwell, 20, of no fixed address, admitted sexually grooming her through social media in November 2015.

Cordwell had nothing to do with the 15-year-old's death at the hands of Stephen Beadman.

In July, Beadman was jailed for 35 years, while his friend Luke Harlow was given a 12-year-sentence for grooming and sexual activity with Kayleigh.

Somehow very fitting that the grooming and murder of someone killed by a former media student is so widely treated in the media. Maybe some good can come of this terrible story after all.

the whole tae was horrible but redundant as I can't believe so many people are so "lost" or wanting to hook up that they will fall prey to individuals on the internet, not just kids.
