An Allina Health spokesman said the three were taken from the scene in ambulances to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.

“The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time,” Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Todd Hoffman said roughly 2½ hours after the students were hit.

Initial reports indicate that the bus was stopped “with its stop arm out waiting to pick up students,” a Sheriff’s Office statement read. “As the students walked towards the bus, they were struck by an oncoming pickup truck.”

The driver of the pickup is being detained for questioning, and investigators remained on the scene to gather evidence, the Sheriff’s Office added.

District administrators said in a statement late Thursday morning that crisis teams are present at Rogers High School to provide ongoing support for students and staff.

Jenson and Olson were in critical condition late Thursday afternoon. Orina was in serious condition, an HCMC spokeswoman said.

Cody Pech was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to hitting three Rogers High School students in Otsego, Minnesota, last January.

According to court documents, Pech received a stayed sentence of 28 months. He will serve 150 days in jail or work release if he is eligible. He will also be on probation for five years.

Pech was charged with three counts of criminal vehicular operation after he hit the three teens shortly before 7 a.m. Jan. 19, 2017.

Hitting the students isn't believed to be intentional, but court papers say he was driving with such "gross negligence" when he caused the crash.
