Six former patients of a retired pediatrician have filed lawsuits claiming the Connecticut doctor sexually assaulted them during examinations in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Hartford Courant reports the two most recent lawsuits against 92-year-old Robert Rackliffe were filed earlier this month in New Britain Superior Court.

The abuse is said to have occurred at Rackliffe's New Britain practice between 1972 and 1986. The victims, three boys and three girls, ranged from 4 years old to high school age at the time.

if theres that many victims why are they just now coming after him?? do they all know eachother?? im not saying he didnt do anything but if their is 6 victims.. and it happened decades ago.. how is it they all decide to press charges now? i dont understand that part.. now hes near death and they want to go after him.. unless hes superpedo and lives until hes like 120.. but I dont see that happening! this sure reminds me of the bill cosby scandal

Like you think they're making it up?

That's nice. :penguin:

You ever been sexually assaulted? How about as a small child? You feel shame, confusion, and a hesitance to tell anyone, especially when it is a trusted person you like. And in the fact this happened over a time period when these things weren't talked about much and I'm not surprised it took them so long to come forward. Much like the Cosby victims.

Some of them/us never tell.
Ever.

i dont think they are making it up but wonder why they ALL decided to wait decades later was my question.. but yea your right about them feeling confused and hesitant..
i guess that answers my question

There should be some kind of mandatory minimum (death!) when a person in a position of authority- dr., cop, teacher, social worker- uses that power to abuse!

Fuck this guy- I don't care how many years his victims waited to come forward--and doubtful they're ALL 'making it up'-- there should be no statute of limitations on shit like this!

Back in the 90s I worked in IT for a University Hospital.. I was told by a co-worker that a few years before the head of pediatrics at the childrens hospital was made to quietly resign after a ton of child pornography was found on his computer. I didn't put much stock into it because I'm usually never one to believe rumors.. I was new and they could of been lying to me. Fast forward to 6 months ago I was laid off a different job because they went out of business and quickly found employment in the IT Department of a manufacturing plant. My new co-worker used to work for the University that was affiliated with this Hospital and he told me recently this story of the head of pediatrics for childrens hospital who was made to quietly resign because of a huge cache of child pornography on his computer. So it was true after all. I never told my co-worker I had heard this story before but I wonder if he was abusing children in the childrens hospital and am horrified. Not only are kids vulnerable but sick and hurt kids in hospital care doubly so..

Well that's just a terrible thought. You'd LIKE to think that the hospital would have taken stronger action than just allowing this guy to quietly resign, if there'd been any evidence of him actually abusing children (whether patients in their hospital or not)...

But the cynic in me thinks that even if they had found some stronger evidence, that they'd rather just remove the problem than call attention to it, and risk a loss of network affiliations, or funding, or donations, or anything else that might financially impact them and serve as a deterrent from calling attention to any wrongdoing under their roof.

And that's just fucking horrible, isn't it? Whether it happened here or not, these things do happen. Executive decisions are made all the time to conceal the blemish, and keep outward appearances intact.

And in regards to Dr. Rackliffe... I can't speak from a vantage point of my own personal experience, like many here can... But maybe everyone is coming forward now because they realize that the window in which they can actually do so and still see his crimes brought to light is swiftly closing. He's already in his 90's... they don't have much time left to make him accountable.

Officials say a retired pediatrician from Connecticut accused of sexual assault in lawsuits filed by six former patients died over the weekend.

The Hartford Courant reports (http://cour.at/1OvWdGP ) Robert Rackliffe passed away in his Farmington home at the age of 92. Rackliffe, a World War II veteran, worked in the New Britain area as a pediatrician for more than 50 years before retiring.

Six lawsuits pending in Hartford and New Britain Superior Courts allege Rackliffe sexually abused three boys and three girls during physical examinations that ranged from 1972 to 1986.

Attorney William Sweeney says his client denied any wrongdoing before his death.

Officials say the cases remain pending and will now be lodged against Rackliffe's estate.

Hopefully he left behind a fortune and it all goes to these victims. Sucks for any relatives he had who otherwise would be enjoying his riches.

Also, one person coming forward opens the door for other victims, for a whole gamut of reasons from they thought they were the only one, to they tried to tell and weren't believed to they were scared or even threatened but someone else speaking up gives them the courage - even more so when the perpetrator is a person of authority such as a doctor, teacher or minister.

Disgusting crime, but commendable on still popping wood at 92 via viagra, penis pump, or whatever he used. I hope that I can still get my pork sword to work at 92!
