Romell Welsh and Vaneshia Valentine
A mother and father are wanted on manslaughter charges. Houma police say they left their toddlers alone in the middle of the night and were not there to help when the home went up in flames.

One day after 2-year-old Romell Welsh and 1-year-old Ro’Miya Welsh were laid to rest their parents face manslaughter charges.

Family friend Naomie James says, “That’s sad, you know. Life goes on, you know. Justice has been done.”

The charred house on the 500 block of Hobson Street in Houma is a painful reminder. The coroner’s office says the two toddlers died of smoke inhalation as their home went up in flames
[...]
Now police are holding their parents responsible saying Romell Welsh Sr. and Vaneshia Valentine were caught by surveillance cameras leaving the two home alone that night. Police say they left about 30 to 45 minutes before flames erupted; leaving a one-year-old and two-year-old to fend for themselves.

Lt. Dana Coleman with Houma Police says, “A one-year-old and a two-year-old shouldn’t be left unattended at all, and that’s why we went with the charge of manslaughter.”
[...]
It’s a difficult scene for their great grandmother, Linda Young, who now tries to hold on to the good memories.

“Romell, he loved the candy, and he loved the caillou, so they got a little puppy and named him Caillou. Ro’Miya, she was premature, but she was just starting to get up and she was a little frisky and happy babies. They were happy babies,” says Young.

The Houma Fire Department says the fire started in the kitchen. They say the parents threw some clothes that had caught fire in the trash can, and the fire inspector believes the clothes must have still been smoldering.

Ok, the first thing that came to my mind was it was intentional. Why are you leaving your kids alone in the first place? And then with clothes that had caught fire being in the trash can? Why the hell were they on fire in the first place? This just doesn't make sense to me in any form or fashion. The "mother" looks like she has a smirk on her face in the mug shot too.

According to the Houma Police Department, Vaneshia Valentine was located by police at a car wash on Grand Calliou Road just after midnight. She was taken in custody and charged with manslaughter and possession of marijuana.

may have argued before leaving for an extended period, according to police.
“We can actually say that the parents left their home approximately 30 minutes before the fire started. We don't know exactly where they went, but surveillance footage from cameras in the neighborhood and from several local businesses show us that they were quite a distance away from the house when the fire began

On Tuesday, Valentine, had agreed to turn herself in to face two counts of manslaughter,

“She told us that she's going to come turn herself in, but will that happen? It's a waiting game,”

“We've heard several reasons why the fire may have started. We have heard that maybe there was an argument between the parents where one of them may have burned the other's clothes before leaving the home,” Coleman said.
Police would have arrested Valentine and Welsh at the conclusion of Monday services for their children, but warrants hadn't been obtained, Coleman said.
Though it is sometime harder for police to make an arrest after a search has been made public, Coleman said the agency is confident Welsh and Valentine will be found.

Look at these grown ass babies, not a lick of decency I'm either of them. Just what was so important two innocent babies had to be lost becoz of it. I hope this is a constant waking nightmare.

A man whose two young children died in a March 15 house fire in Houma has been sentenced to four years in prison.

The Courier reports 22-year-old Romell Welsh Sr. pleaded guilty this week to two counts of negligent homicide in the deaths of 2-year-old Romell Welsh Jr. and 1-year-old Ro'Miya Welsh.

The children's mother, Vaneshia Valentine, had also pleaded guilty to negligent homicide before Welsh's trial. She was also sentenced to four years in prison.
