About an hour after someone called the state Department of Children, Youth and Families to report Benita Barbour, 37, for possible abuse, a neighbor called police after seeing Barbour throw the 2-year-old boys out the window and onto the porch, said Detective Anthony Roberson.
Barbour and her boyfriend, Michael Watts, 37, were fighting at their apartment at 129 Alverson Ave., in the Hartford neighborhood, when neighbors saw Barbour toss her sons out the window, according to a police report. Watts tried to shove the boys back in the front door, but Barbour slammed it closed, knocking down one of the children, according to police.A neighbor captured some of the incident on cellphone video, which was turned over to the police, and confronted the couple.
When police officers arrived, they saw the two boys in pajamas, crying in the middle of the street while an apparently intoxicated Barbour tried to get them into the house, according to a police report. Watts had already left the scene.
The boys were taken to the hospital to be treated for cuts and bruises, and DCYF placed a hold on them, said Maj. David Lapatin. Police at the scene reported that Barbour "showed no remorse" and was belligerent, so she was charged with disorderly conduct.Barbour, who's served time on convictions of robbing someone with a hypodermic needle and domestic felony assault, was held on surety bail after being arraigned at District Court on Monday.
