Adkins, 56, turned himself over to Glynn County authorities Friday morning on charges of aggravated child molestation and child molestation stemming from allegations made by a young male former member of his congregation.

“We are disappointed with what appears to be a rush to judgment by law enforcement authorities in this case,” said his wife, Charlotte Stormy Adkins. “We are confident that Kenneth Adkins will be found innocent of all charges.”

Attorney Kevin Gough, hired to represent Adkins on Thursday, said a bail hearing could be as early as Monday, but a preliminary hearing on the charges likely won’t occur until Sept. 9.

“He looks forward to having his day in court,” Gough said.

Stacy Carson, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Kingsland office, said District Attorney Jackie Johnson asked the GBI on Aug. 12 to assist the Brunswick Police Department in the investigation. It focused on suspected molestation in several locations in the Brunswick area including at Adkins’ church, a vehicle and a victim’s home, Carson said.

The incidents possibly occurred in 2010 and would have had to involve someone younger than 16 for child molestation charges to be brought.

Charlotte Adkins said she and her husband, despite the allegations, share a concern for the mental health of the accuser who the couple has mentored.

“This young man was part of our teen ministry,” she said. “Ken and I have treated him like family, as has our church. He is a deeply troubled young man, to be sure, but our thoughts and prayers remain with him even now.”

Adkins has asked to be placed on unpaid leave from The Greater Church Brunswick on Altama Avenue — the Greater Church also has congregations in Jacksonville and Atlanta — while his case is adjudicated. His wife said she will serve as acting pastor.

Adkins is a controversial figure in Jacksonville politics, particularly because of comments and crude caricatures he posted on his Twitter account while he helped lead the fight against expanding Jacksonville’s anti-discrimination law to cover lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Among the criticisms that Adkins lodged was his assertion that expanding the law would make it easier for sexual predators to find victims in bathrooms.

Adkins served as a panelist last December on one of the community forums that debated whether Jacksonville should broaden the law. Mayor Lenny Curry ultimately decided against doing so.

Gough hinted that there could be a political motivation to the charges brought against Adkins.

“Given his past very vocal positions on issues, it’s a concern,” Gough said.

After the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando in June, Adkins tweeted, “been through so much with these Jacksonville homosexuals that I don’t see none of them as victims. I see them as getting what they deserve.”

Adkins later said he wasn’t referring to the shooting victims, but instead his tweet was “strictly meant for the Jacksonville group that has made my life a living hell” since he served on the community discussion panel.

He also said he would withdraw completely from the debate about the city’s human rights ordinance. He said his public relations firm would not work for any clients opposed to changing the law and he would not make any comments himself.

Besides his activism in the human rights ordinance debate, Adkins has operated a public relations agency and been an advocate for helping ex-convicts rebuild their lives [....]

Adkins has said he benefitted from a second chance himself after he developed a serious cocaine addiction and eventually “hit rock bottom” when he spent 10 months in the Duval County jail in 1996-97 on drug-related crimes. Part of his church’s mission involved helping ex-offenders find work.

His work as a political consultant has been marked by harsh attacks on opponents. In 2012 a Glynn County magistrate ordered Adkins to stop using his Facebook and social media accounts to call a School Board member “a fool” or a “runaway slave.” The order also barred Adkins from using the term “child molester” without proof when criticizing a worker for two local campaigns.

Last month Adkins admitted he made up an endorsement that he posted on Facebook falsely stating that state Rep. Jeff Jones, R-St. Simons Island, had endorsed J. Peter Murphy in a race for the Glynn County Commission.

“I told a lie,” Adkins told the Times-Union but added, “Politics is lying and stretching the truth.”

He also advises political candidates such as current Glynn County Commissioner Mark Stambaugh and hosted a radio show referring to himself as the black conservative.

In June he helped organize a news conference outside the Duval County Courthouse with other black clergymen calling for Circuit Judge Mark Hulsey to resign over complaints that he made racist and sexist comments. Adkins worked on the campaign for Hulsey’s re-election opponent, attorney Gerald Wilkerson, but said he set up the briefing for another minister who was already a client and was concerned about claims against Hulsey.

Friday’s arrest of rabid anti-LGBT rights Brunswick pastor Ken Adkins on charges of child molestation and aggravated child molestation of a young man represented the end of an era in Jacksonville politics.

It was the end of an era for white Republicans, who, going back a decade, saw Adkins as a portal to picking up black votes.

The city’s current Chief Financial Officer, Mike Weinstein, once unveiled Adkins as “part of the team” during his 2006 mayoral run

And in the current election cycle, Gerald Wilkerson, who is a candidate for judge, paid Adkins $9,000 for a website and consulting services … which seemed to include, among other dubious services rendered, the use of Adkins and pastors friendly to him to heat up accusations of racially and sexually charged comments that Wilkerson’s opponent, Judge Mark Hulsey, allegedly made in recent years.

And Adkins also was “getting the word out to the media” about a particular Republican in the House District 13 primary also entering the race, though no record of payment for his services exists.

...

Adkins got away with photoshopping Councilman Tommy Hazouri’s face onto a gay porn picture, and photoshopping Hazouri into a bathroom stall, watching a cross-dresser using a urinal.

...

During a legitimate discussion of expanding human rights, Adkins was elevated to a quasi-policy role, and judging from the mayor saying HRO expansion wouldn’t be prudent, Adkins won the debate over Peter Rummell and Shad Khan, over the Chamber, over corporations, and over ministers (including Curry’s own) who privileged tolerance over hate.

Thanks @edwinagein! Just goes to show how so many politicians lack judgement and clear sightedness. And its not a party thing at all. They all pick bad consultants and ridiculous token victims.

A married Baptist pastor who said homosexuals got 'what they deserve' after Omar Mateen massacred 49 people at a Florida gay club has been found guilty of eight charges of abuse against a teenage boy and girl.

In a unanimous decision by a Georgia jury, Bishop Kenneth Adkins, 57, of Brunswick was found guilty of molesting two members of his church congregation in 2010.

Since Adkins has a previous criminal history due to drug convictions, and because of Georgia's strict sentencing, he may never be a free man, Savannah Now reported. :woot:

'Dear Gays, Go sit down somewhere,' he tweeted on June 13, the day after 49 people were killed and many more injured.

'I know y'all want some special attention. Yall are sinners who need Jesus. This was an attack on America.'

He later tweeted: 'been through so much with these Jacksonville homosexuals that I don't see none of them as victims. I see them as getting what they deserve!!'

On Monday, a jury felt he got what he deserved. :nana:

The victim, who is not being named, said that Adkins had become a 'father figure' to him after his grandfather died, but that the relationship turned sexual in 2010.

He explained how Adkins had bought him gifts and began calling him and texting him, News4Jax reported. The preacher had sent him pictures of his penis, the victim said.

Eventually Adkins told the teen that he wanted to watch him have sex with his girlfriend, to make sure he was doing it properly, the court heard.

The preacher then joined the pair in the sex acts, he said.

The girl in question - who was named in five of the charges Adkins was found guilty of - testified that the events had never happened.

But the prosecution claimed that the girl was under his influence.

'She's in his clutches,' said assistant district attorney Katie Gropper. 'What he has done to that girl is not only criminal, it is deplorable.'

Most of Adkins' defense was based not on denying the claims made by the victim, but on questioning whether he and the girl were actually 15 at the time, or 16.

Had the pair been 16, they would have been legally capable of consenting [....]

In his closing statements - which took an hour and 20 minutes - defense attorney Kevin Gough told the jury eight times that even if they disliked Adkins, he should not be found guilty of 'hypocrisy'.

None of Adkins' family - including his ten children - were present for any stage of the trial.

Adkins was convicted of two counts of aggravated child molestation, five counts of child molestation, and one count of enticing a child.

He will be sentenced on April 25.

In the wake of the fallout from his Orlando tweets last year, Adkins had attempted a retraction.

Adkins, who had run a PR company in Florida prior to his time as a firebrand Georgia preacher, claimed that he was speaking only about a Jacksonville group and not gay people in general.

Which to me, says he's not denying it just saying it was not illegal. So sounds like the "great" man is a fucking hypocrite, hating on men loving men while he is a man sexually abusing a boy and a girl. No matter their age, they were too young for him.

Hes gonna love prison!! Plenty of dick for him... whether he wants it or not! They will come! (No pun intended) ; )
