No word yet on whether the cases are related, but dismemberments aren't SUPER common so there's some speculation...

ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) — Police have released new details about a woman who was found dead at Lake Underhill, a popular lake in Orlando. Investigators said the woman’s body was dismembered.

Many people said they are now concerned for their own safety.

The trail around Lake Underhill was filled with its usual crowd of walkers, runners and bikers on Tuesday evening.

Although everything looked routine, there was an uneasiness in the air as people got more details about a body found in the lake the night before.

“It’s sad. I feel bad for the victim,” a local resident said.

“There’s been so much going on in Orlando, just all over the place, that the shock factor doesn’t sink in quite the same way,” another man said.

Investigators announced Tuesday night that the victim was an African-American woman believed to be in her 30s and was found dismembered.

Detectives believe her body was dumped in the lake sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning.

“It’s really scary. Dismembered. My God,” one local man said. “Definitely, now. I mean, a dismembered body. I mean, that’s pretty insane.”

The victim, who has not yet been identified, is the second dismembered woman found within the last four months.

Ethel Shannon, 42, was found in a wooded area on Old Winter Garden Road, west of John Young Parkway, in April. So far, no arrests have been made in that case.

Although authorities have not said whether they believe the two cases are connected, residents plan to be vigilant, just in case.

And a little more on the other victim Ethel Shannon :

John Franklin knew something was wrong when he spotted scavenger birds diving into the woods near his neighborhood bus stop on Old Winter Garden Road. When he approached, he found a naked woman's body in the brush.

"No one deserves to be left out for the birds … " Franklin said. The Orange County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 42-year-old Ethel Shannon McCarson.

Deputies, clad in bright orange shirts, searched through woods for evidence Thursday morning at he crime scene, visible from Old Winter Garden Road.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lourdes Clayton would not say when experts think the homicide happened, but Franklin said he thought it occurred recently because the body appeared "fresh."

The woman was decapitated, cut in half and her arms and legs were cut off, witnesses said.

Orange County Medical Examiner's Office spokeswoman Sheri Blanton said only a "small percentage" of cases they see involve such severe dismemberment.

She didn't elaborate on the body's condition.

"It is rare that someone is this disarticulated," Blanton said.

McCarson worked as a waitress and resides in Aragon, Ga., according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement records. She was also known to travel around the Florida panhandle area, Clayton said..

Clayton said investigators are "working very hard" to determine where McCarson was before she died.

Relative last remember seeing her in Polk County, Ga. on March 31, Clayton said.

Franklin recognized McCarson as a woman he had seen sitting near the mailbox at a neighboring liquor store "for a few days." The liquor store is just across the street from where McCarson was found.

McCarson been arrested three times in Florida — most recently on March 24, 2015 — on charges of disorderly conduct and contempt of court in Bay County and Panama City Beach, records show.

The reports describe McCarson as intoxicated, screaming in public places and swearing on the beach.

A Bay County jail worker said she remembered McCarson, who came in as a transient, because she always said "Hello, ma'am."

"She was one face in a million that stood out," said the jail worker, who asked not to be named. "She was so polite. A lot of people when they come back a second time, they start getting belligerent."

According to a Georgia news website, McCarson was also arrested there in 2013 on charges of prostitution and open container.

Scavenger birds is code for giant fucking buzzards. My guess is a whole wake of them. Ugh, the visuals! They only eat smelly, rotten things. Belaaargh!

It wasn't done to make it easier to dispose of the body either. Definitely disturbing.
