PENNSAUKEN - A township man is accused of fatally beating a 2-year-old boy in their home over the weekend, police say.

The deadly assault occurred Saturday in a residence on the 5900 block of Mansion Boulevard, according to Pennsauken Police Lt. Michael Probasco.

Zachary Tricoche, 24, identified as the live-in boyfriend of the child's mother, has been charged with murder, he said.

The boy's name was not disclosed in a joint statement from Pennsauken police and the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

The boy's death marks the third alleged slaying of a Camden County toddler in less than a year.

Authorities said Pennsauken police were called to the boy's home around 11:30 p.m. Saturday "in reference to an unresponsive child," The child was taken to Cooper University Hospital, Camden, where he was pronounced dead at 12:08 a.m. Sunday.

Tricoche was being held at Camden County Jail, pending an arraignment hearing Tuesday.

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) — Twenty-four-year-old Zachary Tricoche of Pennsauken was arraigned in Camden County Superior Court Tuesday on murder charges.

Authorities say Tricoche got into a fight with his girlfriend over not buying groceries he liked.

The woman told detectives that during the argument he punched her two-year-old son in the chest so hard he flew into a wall.

The boy got up and Tricoche allegedly punched him again in the chest so hard he hit the wall again and was knocked unconscious.

The mother called 9-1-1 around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday saying that her son had vomited and then become unresponsive.

The two-year-old boy, identified by family as Jamil Baskerville Jr., was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

Following Tuesday’s arraignment victim’s grandfather Gerome DeShields voiced his anger and outrage over the death of his grand baby.

“You’re less of a man to sit there and put your hands on any type of child, no matter what age it is. He was two-years-old. There should be no reason you should want to hit him.

A medical examination revealed Jamil’s liver was crushed and the boy bled to death internally.

The official cause of death is blunt force trauma and the manner of death is homicide.

Tricoche’s bail was set at $1 million cash.

Waited till he went unresponsive probably hours later.... She should be charged also if this is the case. He could have been saved with immediate surgery. Just sad.
the second it happened that baby should have been in route to the hospital and that fucktard would have been sitting with police.

Zacchery Tricoche, 24, has hired a medical examiner who could serve as an expert witness if his murder charge goes to trial.

Tricoche is accused of killing his girlfriend's son, Jamil Baskerville, by punching him twice in the abdomen on Aug. 20 while he and the child's mother were arguing over groceries.

At Tricoche's arraignment last summer, Assistant Prosecutor Christine Shah said an autopsy showed that Baskerville died from internal bleeding because his liver was lacerated by one of the blows.

At disposition conference Monday, Tricoche's attorney, Telissa Lindsey, told Camden County Superior Court Judge Kathleen Delaney that Tricoche's family had gotten money together to hire a medical examiner to assist in his defense.

The case, which does not yet have a trial date, will be delayed for a few weeks while the medical examiner reviews the autopsy report and writes a report for the defense.

It is possible that the examiner could be called to testify as an expert witness if Tricoche goes to trial.

WTF? His family saved up money to get him a medical examiner? So he’s not claiming he didn’t punch him then just that it didn’t cause his death? I’m wondering if his defense is going to be that it wasn’t the punches it was what the mom did or didn’t do afterwards. If he can prove the baby wouldn’t have died if mom took him to the hospital immediately would that get him less time?
 
It's been almost three years since he killed the baby and he's not in prison yet? What is wrong with the US judicial system? I wonder how much the medical examiner is getting paid to do this? And how could he in good conscience help this scumbag out?
 
A New Jersey man was sentenced Tuesday to 16 years in state prison for causing the death of a 2-year-old boy in 2016, officials announced Wednesday.

Zachary Tricoche, 30, pleaded guilty on Nov. 18, 2021 to aggravated manslaughter and admitted at that time that he struck the boy in the stomach hard enough to cause internal bleeding, which led to his death, according to a statement from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

Agreed. I think courts try to overlook(?) the context of these situations in an attempt to be unbiased, more clinical. can I understand a parent harming a child out of frustration in the moment? Yes, doesn’t make it right, but I can see how it happens. Punching a 2 year old, TWICE, because mom got the wrong groceries. Hit him hard enough to knock him out. Like, you’re a bottom of the barrel, what the fuck is wrong with you, you helpless man child tiny dick mother fucker. I’ve known some pretty shitty people but I think most of them wouldn’t stand by and watch a grown man punch a baby, let alone punch a baby themselves.

I’m ranting. Basically if you’re starting with a person like this what is there left to salvage? He sad because he’s getting punished, he will never be sad, or even understand why he should be sad that a baby died. He will sit in jail, for not nearly long enough and blame everyone but himself. This happened because mom got the wrong groceries, she was a bad mom anyways, because that kid “was a pussy” the police are biased. He will cry MY LIFE IS OVER. Actually no, your life isn’t over, you get a 16 year break, in addition to the years you squandered before this. That baby never had a life.
