Several law enforcement agencies are searching a patch of the Lake Erie shore in Monroe County for a woman who disappeared in October.

The search for Chelsea Bruck, 22, of Maybee wasn’t prompted by a tip, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.

Instead, the agencies were taking advantage of the weather. They wanted to see if the melted snow yielded anything at the Pointe Mouillee State Game Area in Berlin Township, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

The game area is five miles from the Newport farmhouse where Bruck was last seen leaving a raucous Halloween party Oct. 25 with an unidentified man.

Dozens of officers from the sheriff’s office and other law enforcement agencies in Monroe County gathered at the gaming area Thursday

I can't imagine she is still alive. I used to live near this area. Makes it hit closer to home. Sad she spent so much time creating her costume...went out to have a little fun and ended up meeting the psycho from hell. I hope her family gets answers and she is found. Miracles do happen...but my instinct tells me she is gone.

Flat Rock police and the Michigan State Police assisted the Monroe County Sheriff's Office in the search beginning Sunday evening of a field near Vreeland and Peters roads. A tip came in to search an abandoned concrete block building near the field, police said.

Michigan State Police returned Monday morning with a helicopter and a K-9 unit. First Lt. Tony Cuevas, commander of the MSP Monroe post, said he could not comment on the results of the searches, referring questions to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Flat Rock police also referred questions to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. A message seeking comment was not immediately returned.

A state police crime lab is examining "clothing and other evidence" found at the industrial site, the sheriff's office said. Bruck wore a Poison Ivy costume that she had worked on for weeks, her family has said.

Two charged with lying to police about Chelsea's investigation.

No one has been arrested in connection with Bruck's disappearance. But a 19-year-old Flat Rock man and a 29-year-old Toledo woman have each been charged with lying to police - a crime considered a high misdemeanor that can carry a punishment of anything from probation to two years in prison.

Monroe County Assistant Prosecutor Ron Benore tells 7 Action News that Harlin Bird admitted to making false statements to investigators because he wanted to look like some sort of hero. And while the Flat Rock man was at the party where Chelsea was last seen, investigators say he later admitted to lying.

In a separate incident, investigators say Kerri Ann Carr lied when she claimed that her ex-boyfriend confessed to killing Chelsea.

We're told Carr was only interested in stirring up trouble for her ex.

A body has been found 10 miles from where she disappeared. No positive ID yet.

A woman's decomposed body was discovered while dirt was being moved at a construction site Friday in Monroe County, about 10 miles from where a woman missing since October was last seen.

The scene is on a heavily-wooded, undeveloped residential property near train tracks, west of Briar Hill Road and south of East Newburg Road. The body hasn't been identified, but confirmation is expected within two days, said Deputy Chief Heath Velliquette with Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

He said most of the rural county has been searched since Chelsea Bruck, 22, disappeared during a Halloween party Oct. 26. But he said officials weren't sure whether this private property, marked by "Posted: No Trespassing" signs, had previously been searched. He declined to comment on whether the body was buried and whether it was clothed.
[...]
Velliquette said the body could have been at the scene for months, and an anthropologist was called in to help with the identification. The discovery was made about 2 p.m., after the property owner building a home paused to work on some of the excavating equipment.

Stopped quoting when I did because they the contradicted themselves stating that the remains have been identified which very well could be a typo. I think it's her but will look for more proof of positive ID.

Is The Search For Chelsea Bruck Finally Over?
The discovery of human remains in Carleton, Michigan has people wondering if the search for Chelsea Bruck is finally over. The 22-year-old woman has been missing since October 2014 and was last seen when she attended a Halloween party in Frenchtown Township. Click on Detroit reports that the remains appear to be the body of a female, and authorities confirm that the body has been in the elements for months. So will this body be identified as the missing Michigan woman?

It has been approximately six months since Chelsea Bruck was last seen. In fact, it is almost six months to the day that Bruck was last seen at the Halloween party, where witnesses claim she was last seen leaving with an unknown and unidentified man. The Halloween party was on October 26, 2014.

The wooded area where the human remains were located is approximately nine miles from where Chelsea was last seen. Now it should be noted that just a few weeks ago, clothing that matched the costume last seen on the missing woman was found in the Flat Rock area — which is approximately six miles away from Carelton in the opposite direction. Could this indicate that somebody scattered evidence in the opposite way to prolong the discovery of a body? That question can’t be answered until an identification is made. For all that is known, this body may belong to someone completely unrelated to Chelsea Bruck’s case.

The Detroit Free Press reports that the body was decomposed, but authorities in Monroe County are diligently working to identify the remains as quickly and efficiently as possible. Confirmation of a positive or negative identification will be available in as few as two days. An anthropologist was reportedly called in to help with the identification of the body, indicating that the remains may be badly decomposed. Depending on the level of decomposition, identification could prove difficult.

The grisly discovery was made by a property owner who was building on the secluded wooded property. He reportedly stopped working to check on his equipment, and that is when he found the decomposing body of who may or may not be Chelsea Bruck. Currently, the missing woman’s loved ones are anxiously awaiting confirmation while everyone who followed this case considers the possible outcomes. Meanwhile, the official Facebook page associated with the search for Chelsea has gone quiet. Their last public post was yesterday regarding the nearing anniversary of the woman’s disappearance and the ongoing efforts to find her.

This story hits extrenely close to me. Tho i was not at this particular party, ive attended mikes parties multiple times before. His halloween parties are (were) an annual event with open invites posted on the internet. Anyone really could have come. Mike is a really nice guy and wasnt expecting such a turn out, him and his security were turning people away midway through. Chelsea's friends never saw her due to the area where the crowd was bring flat surface packed with people. There was a stage for the bands, a massive fire pit, and merch tents set up around the are of yard cut out of the corn feilds. His property is really in the middle of no where at the end of a long dirt road and miles and acres of farm land. The mornig after the party when he heard a girl never returned home, he and his dogs went out searching the property and he cooperated immediately with police. Not alot of ppl came forward right away do to ample alcohol and weed use, after police told the publoc they dont give a shit about drug use or underage drinking, a few people came forward saying they saw chelsea walking towards where the cars were parked with this mystery man. The area was about 35 miles from Detroit, maybe an hour or so from ohio, amd extremely close to major highways, lake Eire and Canada, the man could have came from anywhere. He has never been identified.

Chelsea's body was found 6 months later about 13 or so miles from the property, in a secluded wooded area of private property. The owners of the property have cooperated fully and have been cleared. Any remaining evidence has been gathered, as well qs her costume beimg found an additional 10 Or so miles away in am abandoned industrial site. The family has burried chelseas remains and an officials cause of death is not being made public at this time.

That seems to be the end of any clues or leads. No new information or suspects still, after almost 11 months. This could have been done by anyone, could have happend to anyone, and is extremely tragic and rattled the local metal scene. I dont know if they will ever solve tge case, but do to her body beimg discovered in sich a private secluded area, i think who ever disposed of her body, had to be framiliar with the area. We all have been waiting everyday since She was reported missing in October 2014 for answers to this tragic case.

I, along with many other girls involed in this scene feel as if we can't trust anyone anymore. It could have been anyone, and its absolutely devestating.

They finally fucking got him.

"Richter said her boyfriend claimed that Bruck died during consensual sex that went too far"

How do you accidentally smash someones skull in during consensual sex??

I would imagine it involves a headboard.
He would have had to whip her body into a head board to cause that kinda damage.

I mean i guess, say they were drunk, having sex in like that cement house thing they found her costume in, he was holding her up and they both fell and she hit her brain stem, but still, that's a legit accident that you call the ambulance for. He denied his own bond, he knew what he was doing when he did it.

I don't believe it was rough "consensual" sex. I'm sure she didn't agree to have her head bashed in. I think he took her to the place where her costume was found...with the intent to rape her or fulfill some fanstasy he had...then decided at some point to kill her to prevent her identifying him. Also...he kept trophies. They found her panties and jewelry at his home. If it had been an accident he would have called for help. He wouldn't have hid her body. Or hid her costume. He is guilty as hell and I hope he gets life without parole. He is a predator. Kudos to the girlfriend for not covering his ass and coming forward.

Word...she could have played the everything is fine...no he didn't game, this is going to be

hard for her to recover from (of course it is), even if she did dodge a bullet.

He's got enough mug shots that there's a slide show of them at the link.

A man charged with killing a woman who disappeared from a 2014 Halloween party in southeastern Michigan is getting a mental competency examination.

A judge approved the exam Thursday for 27-year-old Daniel Clay of Newport after a request from defense lawyer Russell A. Smith. His next hearing is Sept. 29. Smith says Clay is distraught, was seen by a psychiatrist after his arrest and prescribed medication.

Clay was charged Monday with second-degree murder in 22-year-old Chelsea Bruck's death.

[...]

Authorities say DNA taken after an arrest in an unrelated case led investigators to Clay. State police told the sheriff's office Clay's DNA matched DNA found on Bruck's Poison Ivy Halloween costume. He was arrested in May in the theft of tattoo equipment.

He looks like a ripe shithead.

I bet his family is scum too, mom prob coddled him, likely has the tiresome, "my child can do no wrong" mentality. Fuck them all.

He has confessed but claims it was an accident.[/QUOTE]
hes using the rough sex excuse and it didn't fly, I think he was who people saw her with medical examiners proved she was beat to death. They upgraded charges to open murder from second so jury can play with that and rule murder1

Daniel Clay, 28, faces charges of murder and concealment of a body in connection with death of 22-year-old Chelsea Bruck
or follow this link.

A six-month search involving numerous volunteers ensued after Bruck's disappearance. Her remains were found in a wooded lot in Ash Township in April 2015. The location was 12 miles from the site of a Halloween party in Frenchtown Township where she was last seen Oct. 26, 2014, walking with an unidentified man. Parts of Bruck's party costume, that of Poison Ivy, a villain in the Batman superhero series, were found in an abandoned industrial site in Flat Rock, about 15 miles away.

Monroe County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Michael Roehrig previously said investigators and the prosecution team have combed through about 2,000 pages of evidence and photographs in the case. Law enforcement officials have said they conducted more than 840 official interviews and received about 1,000 tips throughout Bruck's disappearance.

During questioning by police, Clay, who has a lengthy criminal record, admitted he was involved in Bruck's death, Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone previously said.

Clay's girlfriend, Kelli Richter, previously told the Free Press that he confessed to the crime, saying it was an accident in a phone call from Monroe County Jail. Roehrig has declined to comment on how the investigation may have connected Clay to the crime, but he said a first-degree murder charge wasn't sought because they had no reason to believe it was premeditated.

Bruck died of blunt force trauma, according to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office. The Michigan State Police crime lab processed evidence that enabled deputies to make the arrest, Malone previously said.

Medical examiner testifies 22-year-old Monroe County woman has multiple fractures to jaw, nose and eye sockets
WXYZ-TV and the Monroe News reported. Under the open murder charge, a jury could consider a first-degree premeditated murder charge, which carries a mandatory life sentence, Second-degree murder is a lesser offense, allowing for the possibility of parole and a lesser prison term.

Earlier in Wednesday's preliminary examination, Monroe County Sheriff Detective Brian Sroka testified that after Clay was arrested in July, he admitted he had killed Bruck but maintained it was an accident.

Sroka said Clay told detectives he and Bruck were having consensual sex, and that she'd asked him to choke her, and he did with his hands for about 20-30 seconds. She stopped breathing and he tried CPR, he claimed, but he couldn't revive her. He told detectives he "freaked out," Sroka said. "He didn't call the police, so he began to drive around... for 30-45 minutes."

Detective: DNA on costume connects man to Chelsea Bruck

Clay said he drove to some train tracks about 10 miles from the party's location, then carried the body from the vehicle into a wooded area until he became tired and hid it under some tree branches, Sroka testified. Then he moved the body farther into the woods before leaving it hidden under more tree branches, Sroka said.

Bruck of Maybee was wearing a handmade costume of "Batman" villain Poison Ivy when she met Clay at a large outdoor Halloween party on Oct. 26, 2014, in rural Frenchtown Township. As Clay was leaving, he saw her walking on the side of the road, carrying her wig, Clay told detectives.

"He pulled up next to her, asked if she wanted a ride. She said she did. She got in the vehicle," Sroka testified. "He stated that they drove down the road a little bit and they proceeded to have sexual relations there."

It was DNA on part of a Halloween costume, discovered in a wooded area of Monroe County, that led investigators to connect Clay to Bruck's death, Sroka said. Clay initially fled a mobile home when deputies tried to arrest him, but he then confessed for two hours about how Bruck died and how he tried to cover it up, Sroka testified.

Monroe News reported.

Monroe News reporter Ray Kisonas tweeted from the hearing that Hlavaty discounted strangulation as the cause of death. "The act of killing someone takes several minutes," he quoted Hlavaty as testifying.

After Bruck was reported missing, a six-month search ensued. In April 2015, John Marcon was using heavy equipment to level the ground where he intended to build a house when he discovered Bruck's unclothed remains under a heavy log and some tree branches. In September, Bruck's red shoe and green leggings were found nearby.

Crime-scene investigators found enough DNA on the leggings to connect it to an unknown man. In July 2015, the same month Clay was charged in the separate criminal sexual conduct case, the crime lab confirmed a hit connecting Clay to the DNA sample, Sroka said.

Also Wednesday, Bruck's friends and acquaintances she worked with at a local restaurant described what happened at the party. Several of them testified that she had been drinking before accidentally banging her head on a pole, hurting her nose.

Jessica Pridyl, who worked with Bruck and had a child with Clay, said she remembers Clay and someone else approaching a group including her and Bruck, but that she didn't remember much if any conversation between them. Pridyl said she briefly smoked marijuana with Clay later that night, and that she last saw Bruck at about 1 or 1:30 a.m.

In the many months since Bruck's disappearance, Pridyl said, she doesn't recall Clay saying anything about Bruck. But the day he was arrested, she received two voicemails from him while she was at work.

Clay said he was "extremely sorry," "that he f***** up big time" and was going to be "gone for a really long time," Pridyl testified.

- A jury has found Daniel Clay guilty of felony murder Chelsea Bruck, a woman who went missing at a Halloween party in Monroe County back in 2014.

Clay was also found guilty of disposing of a dead body. He will be sentenced on July 13. Clay was found not guilty of first degree murder.

Jury selection began for Clay's trial on Monday, May 8, and opening arguments were on Tuesday, May 9. One week later, lawyers gave their closing arguments and the jury began deliberating at about 2 p.m. and took about three hours before reaching a decision.

Clay had been charged with open murder, meaning the prosecutor was not required to choose between first- or second-degree murder. The jury then determined the appropriate degree based on the evidence.

Yesterday, Clay testified in his own defense, saying he accidentally choked Bruck, 22, to death during sex. But forensic experts say Bruck had injuries consistent with a violent attack.

Below is an interactive map that walks you through the case, starting from the day Chelsea went missing to the first day of Clay's trial:

Daniel Clay found guilty of felony murder in Chelsea Bruck death
Chelsea was last seen Oct. 25, 2014, at a Halloween party on Post Road in Monroe County's Frenchtown Township. She was dressed as Poison Ivy, wearing a green leotard with fake leaves and a red wig, covering her blonde hair.

She was reported missing a few days later and on Nov. 5, 2014, Monroe County officials held a press conference to alert the public. Chelsea had been missing for 10 days.

Family and friends began to form search parties a few days later but were unable to find her. In March 2015, Monroe County officers searched Pointe Mouillee Game Area, where officials say they often search when after the winter thaw. Again, they did not find her.

On April 5, 2015, detectives responded to a call in Flat Rock at an abandoned industrial site, where they found part of Chelsea's costume from the Halloween party.

A few weeks later on April 24, police were called to a property near Briar Hill Road in Ash Township. The property owner was moving dirt and discovered a body that police confirmed to be Chelsea's remains.

I recall reading about the missing 22 year old Chelsea Bruck and thinking there was so much rural and wooded surrounding area that perhaps it would be hunters that would discover the young woman's remains.

I always find it absolutely chilling to learn that these sick and perverse fucks keep trophies from their kill to heighten the memory of it.
