Where in the world is Richard Simmons? The enthusiastic workout guru has been actively out of the public eye for nearly two years now, and his close friends are concerned that he’s being held hostage at his Hollywood Hills home, according to the Daily News.

“We were very close,” a friend told the News. “It’s not something that I want to seek publicity about, but we are very concerned. Teresa [Reveles, Simmons’ longtime housekeeper] did turn me away several times. He has missed funerals of close friends. He was the most reliable and caring person on the planet, and then to suddenly vanish? I have come to believe that something else is happening. I don’t think Richard is in there of his own volition.”

I was wondering what happened to him. Didn't think it would be something like that, though. Weird. We'll have to wait and see if it's all true. I myself know something about malicious rumors, believe it or not.
 
Simmons used to be on QVC selling workout videos or clothing. Women would to call in sobbing about how much his tapes and bouyant attitude had helped them lose weight, and he'd cry too. It was a bit creepy and yet sweet. I couldn't take his chirpyness, but it works for a lot of people.
 
I used to watch him back in the 80's, didn'thelp me none, mostly cause all I was doing was watching. LOL He used to be overweight so he seems pretty genuine. I really hope he is not in any trouble.
 
I was just talking about him the other day.

My beau referenced Jean Simmons and Richard Simmons popped into my head. I couldn't get the connection.

But anyway, I googled Richard Simmons and found an article that said he was on some new medications and laying low. What ever that means.
 
I think Richard was a little "WTF" back in the 80's but he seemed to be a genuinely kind person who cared about those overweight people he helped.

But then, don't believe everything you see or read. It could all be for show. I just don't get that vibe with Richard. Plus he is from NOLA! <3

I hope he is okay and has not been hurt or taken advantage of like so many people who achieve a modicum of fame and fortune. :(

Richard Simmons spoke exclusively to ET on Sunday, addressing recent reports about why he had not been seen in public in more than two years.

“I am not kidnapped,” the 67-year-old fitness guru told ET’s executive producer, Brad Bessey, by phone. “I am just in my house right now.”

“No one should be worried about me,” Simmons said. “The people that surround me are wonderful people who take great care of me.”

Simmons called the report “very hurtful.”

“I love all the people who worry about me,” Simmons said. “But it was time for me to take some time to be by myself. For the last 40 years I have been traveling, teaching classes, and I had a knee injury, so I had a knee replacement, which was very difficult for me… I have really just been taking it easy, staying at home, working out in my gym and doing the things I haven’t done in a very long time.”

According to Simmons, he’s been keeping in shape despite concern that he might need another knee replacement. In response to speculation he has avoided going out because he has gained weight, Simmons said, “I still weigh 150. I work out every day. I have a gym at the house, and I am very healthy.”

“I have had a tough time dealing with this injury, as it is keeping me from doing what I truly love to do and that is to teach classes around the world,” he wrote. “Make sure you keep Sweatin’!”

The Sweatin’ to the Oldies creator made his last public appearance in December 13, 2013, at SPARKLE: An All-Star Holiday Concert at ACME Comedy in Los Angeles.

“This is how I want to live my life right now,” Simmons told ET on Sunday. “And to all the people that are worried about me, please don’t be. If I was in any trouble, if I was hurting in any way, I would reach out. It is time right now for Richard Simmons to take care of Richard Simmons.”

Why can't they leave the guy alone, who cares who or what he dresses up as, he's never hurt anybody and he's not butting into anybody's else's business. I used to exercise with him way back in the 80's and I still think he's a nice guy.
