October 22 will mark 25 years since my son Jacob was taken from his family as he rode his bike home with his brother and a friend
[..]
Jacob was a fun, active, athletic, kind, 11-year-old boy who loved peanut butter and football. He was most known for his sense of fairness.

Not knowing what happened or who abducted Jacob has left so many unanswered questions for Jacob’s father, sisters, brother and me.

If I had the chance to talk face to face with the person who took my son away, here’s what I’d want
[...]
Who are you?
[...]
believe that somebody knows. It’s time to quit protecting the bad guy, even if it is a family member. It’s time to speak up for Jacob. Please tell me who took our son.

If YOU are the abductor, it’s time to tell. You can’t feel good about this. Find some peace. Please write back.

Is Jacob still alive?

Sometimes the phone rings and there is no one there. It’s probably a telemarketer or a wrong number, but my heart cries out, “Jacob, are you there?”
[...]
save articles of “kids” who came home after long periods of time: three months, nine months, four years, 7½ years, 10 years, 18½ years.

It CAN happen. I don’t know, so I hope and pray that you got away, Jacob. We need you back. We love you more than the flowers love the sun and the rain. My heart wants to believe you’re OK.
[...]
What made you think you could steal a child?
[...]
is so deeply loved and missed by his mom and dad, brother, sisters, cousins, neighbors and friends. I have read a lot about kidnappers and child molesters and I know that you are all people, human beings that need help.

Maybe you feel bad. Maybe you told someone, but I still live with so many questions — like, how could you? And how could anyone still keep the secret? You can free yourself of carrying this.
[...]
Why didn’t you let him go?

What happened? You probably had other boys that you victimized and released. I think you meant to let him go and something went terribly wrong. I need to know what happened
[...]
What was the last thing that Jacob said to you?

Jacob had a keen sense of fairness and always stood up for people who he thought needed an ally, a friend. He probably would have befriended you too. I need to hear his voice again or to hear the last words he said if he can’t speak to me himself. Please tell me.

my heart literally breaks for this woman, I couldn't imagine going a day not knowing where my girls are I can't imagine the torture of going 25 years without one of them. The scars that night no doubt left on his brother. Omg . I just cant. I can't even.
As much as I wish who ever did this was dead because they don't deserve to breathe the same air as this poor tortured woman a part of me hopes this animal is still alive and can tell this woman something that can bring her peace

11-year-old Jacob Wetterling, on a horseback riding excursion, 1989 / Patty Wetterling, Jacob's mother

On Sunday, CNN's "The Hunt With John Walsh" will feature a 25-year-old Minnesota cold case. The first half of the show focuses on Jacob Wetterling, the 11-year-old boy who was kidnapped while riding his bike in his hometown of St. Joseph on Oct. 22, 1989.

On cnn.com, Jacob's mother, Patty Wetterling, has posted five questions for her son's abductor, who is still unknown, including "Who are you?" and "Is Jacob still alive?"

"The Hunt With John Walsh" features unsolved and ongoing crime investigations.
...
The episode of "The Hunt With John Walsh" featuring the Wetterling case airs at 8 p.m. Sunday

This case breaks my heart, Jacob's mom breaks my heart. I'm sure I will be watching on Sunday, although I'm sure it will also, break my heart.

Jacob wetterlings episode on The Hunt was so hard to watch I was so upset after it was over... I texted my ex and told him to keep our kids close ( it was his weekend) he thought I was weird :(

On Tuesday, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the Stearns County sheriff's office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the FBI will launch the campaign to seek the public's help in their ongoing search.

Six billboards will be placed in areas near the abduction. They will feature Wetterling's picture and an age progression, and will ask the public to call 1-800-THE-LOST with information that might lead to him.

From @KKmom 's link:

Danny James Heinrich has been linked to Jacob Wetterling’s disappearance, the first lead in more than two decades after the boy’s 1989 disappearance.

Heinrich was arrested at his home on Wednesday night and charged with receiving and possessing child pornography. Police searched his home on July 28 searching for any evidence linking him to Jacob's abduction and another boy's sexual assault from nine months before Jacob's disappearance.

He has not been charged with Jacob’s disappearance, but is being questioned as a “person of interest,” special FBI agent Richard Thornton said. Heinrich denied any involvement with Wetterling's disappearance, investigators said.
The alleged pervert had 19 binders filled with images of naked boys, many of whom detectives identified as known children of sexual exploitation, which are logged in a national database, U.S. attorney Andrew Luger said.

Heinrich also had VHS tapes spanning over a decade with clips he recorded spying neighborhood children doing everyday activities – getting the mail, riding their bikes and playing at the park, officials said.

Jacob was not found in any of the child pornography, Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner said.

Heinrich was also connected to another boy's abduction sexual assault from January 1989, just nine months before Jacob's disappearance. Heinrich's DNA evidence was found on the boy's clothes, but he will not be charged for that sexual assault because the statute of limitations has passed, police said.

Yeah, let's guess what kind of DNA evidence that was....:wait:

Thank you @ScarlettHarlot for adding the description. I'm an idiot who didn't know how to put the little box thingy on. Now I just posted to everyone how dumb I am

I really hope they find something to tie him to Jacob's disappearance, his poor family has been left to wonder all these years- they deserve an answer.

Not knowing if your child yet breathes and walks the earth would be unimaginable for me. Having no knowledge of her childs fate for 25 years... Patty Wetterling has been left to imagine. It's time for someone who either knows something or has suspicions to step from the shadows and give it up. Patty Wetterling has waited long enough for answers.

Not at all, and I never would have posted the quote if I thought it would make you feel that way! No one is going to think you're dumb for not knowing your way around the forum software. And posting links to update stories is always welcomed! Hell, I haven't searched for updates or added a thread in a long while. I only added the quote because a lot of us do for people who have trouble following links or would rather just get the gist of it here rather than read the full article.

For future reference, if you'd like to add the quote box to a post, check out the icons at the top of the reply box. If you hover your mouse over them, they tell you what they are. You want the 'insert' icon which looks like a page of text. Click there, a drop-down menu gives you the option to 'quote'.

[ QUOTE] [/QUOTE ] Those will appear, but without the spaces I've added. Copy and paste what you want to quote from the article (and not the whole article, because that's stealing content rather than quoting and Morbid punishes us severely for that in ways I'm far too traumatised to describe) into the gap between the two quote tags.

Don't ever be embarrassed if you're not sure how to do something, @Subrosa would happily walk you through any questions I'm sure, and there's normally someone in the shoutbox who will know if you have any questions about how to do something. :)

There seems to be no shortage of sicko's in the local area. Seems a lot of young boys were molested in the vicinity I am betting the perp killed Jacob because he slipped up with one of the previous victims. This is just a sad story for all involved. My heart goes out to all of them.

I was so thankful that you did the quote for me. I tried figuring it out but that wasn't happening. I hoped someone would do it. Thank you for explaining all the steps to do it and how to ask for help! I saw that article and found nobody had said anything about it. Living in Minnesota and Jacob being my age I will never forget what happened to him.

@KKmom, I couldn't access your profile page.
I moved from Minnesota 1 year ago.
I lived there for 10 years. It was the best and worst 10 years of my life.

The first year I lived there, I bought an old church and house between Bruno and kerrick. I was working on it and the f.b.I. showed up and asked me if they could look around. It was in regards to the wetterling case.
After an hour or so they were done and never came back. It still spooked me. Because I was asked to step out, I didn't get to see all the places they looked. That church had many little crawl spaces, nooks and crannies.
I never entered the church much after that. Finished the house and sold it.

I don't understand the purpose of statutes of limitation. Is there an actual legal justification/logic behind it? For the life of me i can't brainstorm one, and i'm generally pretty good at considering and even understanding the various extremes when it comes to the sides of an issue.

The Search of your "church" involved another man who's name was never publicly name due to the fact there was no evidence against him, only suspicions. The same situation as Mr. Rassier, the difference being you were dealing with professionals in the FBI, while Mr. Rassier unfortunately was left to deal with the most horrendous crime fighters in the history of Minnesota, that being the Stearns County Sheriff's Office... Never once located a missing person case, and struggle with solving murders without practically relying on the public to do it all for them! Anyway, nothing awful happened in or around your old property in Mn...no worries.

I am amazed. Thought for sure this was one that was never going to be resolved and that the murderer would take his knowledge of the whereabouts of Jacob's remains to his grave, if he hadn't already.

Sad and glad for his parents in equal measure.

I am stunned. I never thought Jacob's body would be found and the murderer arrested. My thoughts go out to his family who have been living in limbo hell for 27 years, agonizing over did he suffer before he died, while praying for the chance he could still be alive, like Jaycee Duggard. Jesus.

The moment that you finally learn the answer you have waited decades to know and gaining that knowledge removes the very last lingering vestige of hope.

My heart goes out to the Wetterling's, LE who worked the case and the men who were but boys with Jacob on that long ago day.

My heart goes out to the Wetterling family, LE and all the volunteers that searched for him, friends and his community. I've followed Jacob's story for all my adult life it seems. I was raised in Wisconsin and it was all over our news there as well. RIP Jacob. I'm glad your family finally got answers...although...sadly not the ones they were hoping for.

I can't help but have a thought for the families of Etan Patz and Johnny Gosch who have also been
missing for more than two decades. As a parent I can imagine when your child first goes missing that you start out in hell and as one year turns into the next and the next that you must travel through all it's seven levels.

Netflix is running, Who Took Johnny?, the Gosch case if anyone is interested. It takes some twists along the way.

I've followed this case for years, finally reading that Jacob has finally been found just took my breath away & instantly brought tears to my eyes.

Jacobs mom has been so awesomely devoted & such a beacon of strength.

Everyone is going to say that they're happy for his parents & how they'll finally have closure-- but i can't help but think that this news would be anything but crushing for them.

After all of these years of searching & interviews & age progression photos-- I don't care how tiny the chance was, the hope was there that Jacob would be returned to his family safe & sound...

And now that little glimmer is gone.

Rip Jacob
[doublepost=1473167340,1473167042][/doublepost]Omg Jacob's mom really is my hero...

Everyone wants to know what they can do to help us," the mother said in her statement. "Say a prayer. Light a candle. Be with friends. Play with your children. Giggle. Hold Hands. Eat ice cream. Create joy. Help your neighbor. That is what will bring me comfort today."

I was actually watching that on Netflix last week. Then the news about Jacob's remains broke. Both cases were among the first I ever followed.

Heartbreaking.
