The babysitter had been watching the girl while her mother was away, a news release from the DA’s office stated.

The girl was identified as Mya Migneault by a relative running the Facebook page Justice For Mya, where one photo posted included the caption, “Mya’s 4th and last birthday.”

“Mya was the most loving little girl. So sweet and loved to cuddle,” the family member wrote in a message

The girl died of blunt abdominal trauma and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

When she became unresponsive, Hawkins Scott took her by public transportation to a hospital instead of calling 911, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday, citing Los Angeles police.

Hawkins Scott, a resident of the Westlake area of Los Angeles, has been charged with one felony count each of murder, assault on a child causing death and child abuse, prosecutors said in the release.

Hawkins Scott, who was being held on $1.1 million bail, was scheduled to return to court on April 7 for a preliminary hearing, according to the DA’s office.

She faces up to life in prison if convicted.

When a 4-year-old girl became unresponsive last week, her Westlake babysitter opted to use public transportation instead of calling 911 to get her to a hospital, Los Angeles police said. Not long after, doctors pronounced the little girl dead.

Meanwhile, detectives are trying to determine why Mya Migneault was left in Hawkins Scott’s care. The mother was out of state at the time and had “no hand in this,” said police Lt. Craig Herron.

According to relatives, the girl’s mother was with her fiancé in the South when she got the news about her daughter. They say the mother’s distraught, but hasn’t elaborated on how long she left Mya with the baby sitter and why. The family originally hails from Orlando, Fla.

“All I can tell you is that Mya was my whole life,” said the girl’s grandfather, Gary Greenberg, 59, who now lives in Texas. “She never did anything. She was a perfect angel.”

Probably wasn't the first time she abused the girl. But again it goes unnoticed or no one gave a damn until it was too late. Again..if this was a puppy it would be all over national news. God I hate people some days.

A Los Angeles woman who pleaded no contest Thursday to second-degree murder for the beating death of a 4-year-old girl she was babysitting was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison.

Just before Vanessa Denise Hawkins-Scott was sentenced, the girl’s mother, Candice Migneault, said that when her child died, “she took my soul with her … She was my only child. I don’t want any more kids because of this whole incident.”

“I can’t forgive, I’m sorry, I just can’t,” she told Los Angeles Superior CourtJudge Katherine Mader. “It’s up to the Lord.”

The judge responded, “I’m very sorry for what happened to your daughter.”

Hawkins-Scott, 55, of the Westlake district, put her head down on the table after being led into the courtroom before the hearing and appeared to be crying, then sobbed as she was being led out of the courtroom after being sentenced.

Hawkins-Scott entered her plea Jan. 22 as jury selection was set to begin in her trial.

Two other charges — assault on a child causing death and child abuse — against Hawkins-Scott were dismissed as a result of her plea.
