A 16-year-old girl was allegedly shot dead by her 27-year-old boyfriend before he crashed the car they were travelling in in north Connecticut.

Evalyce Santiago was found dead with gunshot wounds to her head and hand inside the wreckage in Waterbury, New Haven County.

Her boyfriend Dominique Pittman was rescued from the wreckage and arrested by police.

Police found a weapon in the car and have since charged Pittman with killing the teenager.

Pittman and Miss Santiago were in a relationship at the time of her death, but Pittman also had three children with her older sister.

Police say they have determined that Santiago was shot at some point before the car crashed.

However, it is yet to be established if she died from the gunshot wounds or the crash, which saw the vehicle wrapped around a telephone pole, local news reports.

'He was my son in law. I just want the truth,' Miss Santiago's adoptive father told WFSB.com

'He was dating my daughter and he has three kids with my other daughter.'

Miss Santiago's family have paid tribute to the 'vibrant' teenager who 'knew how to light up a room'.
Francisco Rivera, Santiago's grandfather, told NBC Connecticut he raised Santiago, and did not know she was dating Pittman.

'Nobody knows nothing until something happens. That's when we all realize the tragedy. It was under our noses and we didn't see it,' he said.

'We go on with life. He looks at four walls and figures out what he did wrong,' Rivera said.

he warehouse worker was driving when he says Santiago threatened to expose their relationship to his wife, who is Santiago's aunt and adopted sister. Pittman and his wife have three kids together and the rest of the family was unaware about the affair.

At one point, Pittman says the fight escalated, with Santiago reaching into the center console to grab a handgun he had stored inside.

He says the two began to fight over the gun, and eventually he shot Santiago three times - twice in the head and once in the hand.

It was at that moment that he veered off the road and crashed the car - wrapping it around a telephone pole.

When police arrived at the scene around 8.30pm, they found Pittman outside the car wit minor injuries. They pulled Santiago from the burning vehicle, and pronounced her dead at the scene.

At first, police say Pittman told them that Santiago's boyfriend, who's name he doesn't know, was in the car. He said that the man shot her and then fled the vehicle.

He later changed his story again, saying that Santiago was accidentally shot after the two got into a fight when she demanded that he loan her money to buy a winter coat.

Pittman eventually copped to being in a relationship with Santiago when police confronted him about the possibility of Santiago being pregnant and finding traces of his DNA, NBC New York reports.

According to court documents, Pittman said he 'last had sex with her around the beginning of November.' Investigators are still determining how long the relationship had been going on for.

Pittman appeared in court on Wednesday, when he was officially arraigned on murder charges. He was also hit with weapons charges including carrying a pistol without a permit and weapons in a motor vehicle, murder.

Pittman's bail was initially set at $1million, but raised to $3million on Wednesday when the motivations behind the murder were revealed.

He is due back in court on December 20.

I wonder if he raped her that day, and killed her only because she threatened to tell his wife. Since investigators are still questioning the relationship...I wonder if he figured it would be best to say they were in a "relationship" rather than admitting to rape. Her friends say she told them nothing ever happened between them...which of course could have been said to mislead everyone, but "she told us 'I trust him that's my Uncle' I don't think he would do anything"

The Republican American reports that 27-year-old Dominique Pittman cried Monday as he listened to the girl's family tell the court how beautiful, intelligent and vibrant she was and how much they miss her.

Pittman, who apologized to the family, pleaded guilty in September to murder in the December 2017 shooting of 16-year-old Evalyce Santiago, of Waterbury.

She was 16 and dumb but she could’ve grown out of it. I’ll save my rage for the piece of shit who couldn’t keep his dick in his pants and decided to kill a teenager to save his own worthless ass.
