Long Island – Last Thursday, the guys from Rescue Ink: Unleashed got a call about a disturbing case of animal cruelty. The cast, a bunch of big, schmexy, tattooed, biker types who strive to save stolen and abused animals, headed out to the home of 43-year-old Sharon McDonough. Upon discovery of five dogs in the home, crammed into cages, malnourished and neglected, the crew put in a call to the SPCA. Further investigation revealed that the five dogs inside the home were just the tip of the iceberg. The SPCA returned to Sharon’s home Saturday morning armed with a search warrant and some shovels – they wanted to start digging in her back yard. And dig they did, unearthing the remains of as many as 20 cats and dogs.

“It looked like a real murder scene, as if they were gonna pull out dead bodies out there,” neighbor Andrea Martinez said. “The smell was unbearable. They were taking bags out by the dozen. It was crazy.” According to the tipster, Sharon’s oldest son, 21-year-old Doug McDonough, his mother would “buy a new dog, treat it like it was the greatest dog in the world for a few days, then they would sit in the cage until she decided to kill them.” If that wasn’t heinous enough, it is believed she enlisted the help of one of her seven children to hold the animals while she tortured them. “It was a concentration camp for the animals,” Douglas McDonough said. “My sisters and me, we got the end of it, too.” Sharon’s children range in age from 18 months to 21 years.

Though authorities suspect that each of the dead animals belonged to Sharon, her neighbors aren’t so sure. Seems that more than just a couple of cats and dogs have disappeared – never to be seen again. Neighbor Sharyn Padula said three of her animals have gone missing in the past year. “If they find my pets, I want her to pay,” she said. Necropsies are planned on each of the corpses. Five dogs, one cat, a bird, and a hamster were removed from Sharon’s home, alive.

Neighbors say that Sharon has been a ‘little off’ since the death of her husband in an auto accident last year. Sounds like ‘little off’ is a huge understatement. Damn.

Charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty, Sharon McDonough was released without bail yesterday. If convicted on the animal cruelty charges, she faces up to a year in prison on each of the misdemeanor counts. If it is determined that Sharon intentionally killed the animals (ummm, DUH!), the charges could be raised to a felony and she would likely face more time.

Roseville, MI – Kimberly Ross and her 13-year-old daughter returned home just before 11:00 p.m. Monday evening to hear an odd ‘clunking sound’ coming from their washing machine. I can only imagine their horror when they opened up the door to see their new little kitten, Ruby, lifelessly bouncing around in the spin cycle. If that, in itself, wasn’t bad enough, the Ross family had also been robbed. Some kitty killing, sticky fingered criminal had ransacked their home – making off with a laptop, video game system, and some cold hard cash. Oh, and did I mention the pilferer actually removed a load of laundry from the machine in order to make room for the 7-month-old 6-pound kitty? Nice.

The Michigan Humane Society offered up a $2,000 reward, and CrimeStoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to Ruby’s killer or killers. Authorities made a break in the case on Wednesday with the arrest of 19-year-old Ty-Shawn Bost. Though they haven’t specified what led them to arrest Ty-Shawn, they had enough evidence to serve a warrant and make an arrest. During questioning, Ty-Shawn admitted to his involvement in the kitten’s death, stating that the animal was tossed in the wash because “it was bugging him.” Gimme a break you fucking punk. What the hell could a 6-pound kitten possibly do to deserve that kind of treatment? Purr at ya? I don’t even like cats and this story just pisses me off. Asshole. Authorities say that Ty-Shawn has absolutely no connection to Ruby’s human family and believe that it was more than likely a crime of opportunity. They don’t believe the asshat acted alone, but have not named any other suspects as of yet.

The asshole is now sitting behind bars charged with one count of second-degree home invasion, a 15-year felony, and one count of killing or torturing an animal, a 4-year felony. Sharon, PA – Trumbull County assistant prosecutor Sean O’Brien says, “It’s one of the worst abuse cases I’ve seen.” And he ain’t kidding. The boy had been beaten and tortured by his mother’s husband, Damion Wise, for nearly two years. After receiving an anonymous tip about the suspected abuse, officers arrived at the Wise home Saturday afternoon and found one 8-year-old child in pretty bad shape. The kid’s face was swollen, he had a scabbed over, but still bleeding, wound on his head, two black eyes, and was walking with a limp. His hands and feet were swollen more than twice their normal size. He was bruised and bloodied all over his body. He had belt marks to his belly, chest, back, ankles, feet, and underarms. And he was scared. “I’m afraid of him, he tells me he’s going to kill me,” he told officers. “I know he’s going to kill me, he never lies.”

More injuries, including a possible collapsed lung, were discovered once the child was admitted to the hospital. The child was also found to be wearing a diaper. Wise forced the 8-year-old child to wear a diaper if he had an accident in his bed or accidentally wet his pants. If the kid had to pee while he was doing chores, he was forced to hold it until his chores were finished. The boy told authorities he had been beaten with belts and a souvenir sized wooden baseball bat. He was forced to hold books above his head, “to make my arms stronger,” he said. If he tired and sat down to rest, Wise would beat him. He was forced to sit outside on the porch for hours at a time. The neighbors reported to police that “the child sits out in that yard in that hot sun all day from sun up to sun down and no one seems to check on him.” When asked what he thought should happen to his step-father, the child said, “I want my dad to get some anger management. He might have to go to jail for awhile.” Yeah, kiddo. Let’s hope it’s a good, long, while. And, let’s hope the kid doesn’t get thrown back to his mother, either. You can’t look at those pictures and tell me she didn’t know what the fuck was going on.

Damion Wise, 30, is sitting behind bars now facing a couple counts of felonious assault. On top of those charges, Wise also faces sentencing for a previous charge of domestic violence and child endangerment. Bail was set at $250,000. Come on over to my place, Damion. I got a bat too, asshole. Oh yeah, and bring your wife – I’d like to teach her a lesson or three as well.

Pasadena, CA - I know there are about as many ways of parenting as there are parents, but none of them should be stuff banned by the Geneva convention. At around 6 am Tuesday, Maria Palaez, age 29, called 911 and reported that her child was not breathing. Emergency personnel arrived to find 2 year old Rene Torres dead at the scene due to asphyxiation. His parents admitted to duct taping him up as a form of punishment and also said that they had taped his mouth occasionally. Though police are keeping the details of the case quiet, they have arrested both the mother and live-in boyfriend, 32-year-old Gabriel Diaz, due to the “suspicious nature of the call” and other evidence found in the course of the investigation.

Prosecutors allege that the couple had been torturing and abusing poor Rene for at least a month, since July 18th. The horrible parents are being held on a one million dollar bail on suspicion of murder. Police spokeswoman Janet Pope Givens said, “Evidence was found that pointed to foul play,” and “Whether it was intentional or not, the child still died and it is being investigated as a homicide.” Diaz has prior convictions for possession of a switchblade knife, driving without a license, and driving at an unsafe speed. Phoenix, AZ - Terry Neely, 46, was last seen in his motorized wheelchair leaving his home at an assisted living complex on the evening of August 2. The next time anyone laid eyes on Neely, he was a charred and dismembered body left burning in a trash can. (Really folks, what’s with all the fires lately? Damn). Judging by the information being released, Neely didn’t go quickly or quietly – he had been systematically tortured for as many as three days. Now, who the hell would be so callous and cruel as to pick on a defenseless disabled guy? According to authorities, the smiling vixen you see here, Angela Simpson, might have had something to do with it. As a matter of fact, she ‘fessed up to being the callous and cruel human who made Neely’s last days on earth a living hell. And she told all to authorities in return for a candy bar.

Emergency crews were called out to Covenant Grace Christian Fellowship Church to extinguish a trash bin on fire on August 5. After the flames were put out, the crew discovered a charred, dismembered, and mutilated dead guy. Officials were later able to identify the body, through fingerprints, as Neely. Through some good old fashioned police work and leads from the community, authorities soon found the original scene of the crime – an abandoned apartment often frequented by Simpson and some dude who goes by the name ‘Cracker.’

Inside the apartment, bloodstains. And lots of ‘em. Testing revealed the blood had, at one time, been in Neely’s body. The cops wanted to have a little palaver with Simpson – luckily for them, they knew exactly where to find the little scamp – she was already behind bars – being held on charges pertaining to an unrelated armed robbery. Simpson made the whole process easier for the cops. She offered to spill the beans about everything in exchange for a candy bar. Sated by chocolate, she began to tell a tale of vile cruelty.

For one reason or another, Simpson believed Neely was a snitch and was working with prosecutors. (Possibly on the armed robbery charge)? Well, for one reason or another, that really bothered the shit out of her and she felt the need to vent. She lured Neely into the apartment with the promise of sex, and once he was inside, Simpson began the torture. Keep in mind, investigators believe Neely had been alive and painfully aware throughout a good part of it all. Neely had been beaten with a tire iron and hammer. His teeth were pulled out. He had been strangled with a TV cable. His throat had been cut. He had been stabbed approximately 50 times. He had a 3-inch nail hammered into his brain. He had been dismembered. Good. Gawd. This bitch is beyond batshit crazy. After the crude dismemberment, Simpson borrowed a car from the apartment manager and tossed Neely’s body in the trunk. Video surveillance from a nearby elementary school captured a car matching the description of the manager’s vehicle traveling by with something big sticking out of the trunk. The video was from the day Neely’s body was found. After Simpson tossed Neely’s body, she returned the vehicle to it’s owner and confessed to “killing the guy in the wheelchair” and threatened to kill him if he spoke of it. All of the injuries she admitted to doling out were confirmed at autopsy. She was adamant with authorities that she had acted alone in the maiming, torturing, and flaming. Investigators aren’t 100% convinced that Simpson is the only person involved in the murder, but, they do believe that most of the heinous shit was committed by her. I betcha we’ll be hearing about Cracker pretty soon. Angela Simpson, 33, is being charged with first-degree murder.

San Diego, CA – Just last week, I posted a story about a little bitch of a girl, who, when she didn’t get what she wanted, threw a fit and tossed her infant to the ground. I have for you today, another little bitch of a girl, who, when she didn’t get what she wanted, pitched a fit and beat the shit out of her mom. You know, I would love to get these two little bad-asses within an arms reach and learn ‘em some manners and respect. Jillian Stokes, 18, wanted to go surfing – when her mother refused to take her, mom got her ass kicked – severely. So severely, that she has only a 50% chance of surviving the injuries she sustained at the hands of her punk ass daughter.

Monday afternoon, Jillian and her mother, 60-year-old Bonnie Spector, got into a heated argument – there was a little pushin’ and shovin’ going on. At some point, Jillian knocked her mother to the ground. When Bonnie hit the ground, Jillian began kicking and punching her in the head and upper body. She repeatedly struck her mother until the woman lost consciousness. The fight was over. Jillian won.

It has been reported that Bonnie had lain out on the driveway for quite some time before anyone called 911 – long enough to get a sunburn on an exposed portion of her stomach. Bonnie remains hospitalized and unconscious and is unable to breathe on her own. If she doesn’t survive, Jillian could face a murder charge. On Wednesday, Jillian pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated mayhem, torture, and battery. Besides those three felonies, she faces a special allegation that the attack on her mother caused great bodily injury. If convicted on those charges, she’s looking at 16 to life. Bail has been set at $500,000.

Lake City, FL- My son nags me every single day to take him to the park. There are not a lot of kids around our home that are his age, so the park is the only place where he can get in some play time with other little guys like him. I don’t mind going once or twice a week, but every day? Let’s just say I am not a Kindergarten teacher for a reason! So, I use the usual excuses like “I don’t have time today” and “Maybe tomorrow if you’re good”, the same thing my parents said to me to get me to stop pestering them. Then, my lucky ass comes across this story and I cannot describe the guilt I now feel for not making a little time in my schedule each day for a trip to the park. The little guy in this story touched me, because after all the torment he had been through, the first place he went was to the park to play.

This last Tuesday around 5 p.m., 14-year old Joshua Smith seen something very unusual. A 4-year old boy, bruised and completely naked, was walking as though he was in pain through the neighborhood. As the boy began playing with other kids on the neighborhood swing set, Joshua walked up to the boy and asked him if something was wrong. What Joshua learned was that the boy had just escaped from his mother’s apartment. A place where he was tortured and imprisoned almost every day. Joshua took the boy to his mother, a nurse, and she called the police.  After discovering the boy’s address, the officers went to his home to investigate. The boy’s mother, Teresa Kravec, 27, and her roommate, Shaconda Tillman, 28, were arrested that evening when they returned home. They are now both facing charges of aggravated child abuse, false imprisonment and child neglect. Police are unsure where the women were that day and the investigation is still ongoing, so there may be more additional charges added.

What the officers learned so far is that the boy had been tied up with a telephone cord and left alone in the bathroom of the apartment with the windows and doors locked. They believe the women left him from about 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. that day and then again from 1 p.m. until about 5 p.m. when, thankfully, he was able to free himself and escape. That’s several hours, with no food, nothing to drink, and not being able to use the toilet when needed.  The boy told the officers that he had been tied up and left alone like this at least five other times before and that he had been beaten with a toilet brush. He also said that when he misbehaved, his mother and Tillman would pour boiling water over his head as punishment. The little guy did not appear to have any serious injuries, but medical staff did discover bruises on his body, right leg and both wrists, some new and some old. The boy also had excessive scabbing on his head as well as visible red marks from being restrained. “I can’t imagine people doing that right now to their kid and it’s just hard, you know, and I can’t believe they do that,” said Joshua tearfully. Joshua’s mother is calling him a hero and I completely agree. “I feel like if it weren’t for my son knowing to come and get me that unfortunately this kid would still be in his home right now,” said Joshua’s mother.  “I’ve always known he was a hero. He’s my hero. He always has been,” she said.

The boy and three other children living in the apartment are now safe and all were all placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families. Big Kudos to you, Joshua Smith! You saved this little boy’s life!

Easton, Pennsylvania–Authorities are calling the allegations horrific. That, my friends, is an understatement. Terrell Scott, 23, is accused of torturing his girlfriend’s three daughters for more than a year. He abused them with lit cigarettes, cable wire, broomsticks, a claw hammer, and nail clippers. Police believe he began his attacks on the girls in September of 2007 and didn’t cease until October 2008. Authorities began the investigation into the allegations in November 2008, after the girls finally found the nerve and the courage to speak up about the abuse. Just this past Tuesday, a warrant was issued for his arrest. The girls were 8, 10, and 13 when the torture began, and the list of allegations is truly stomach-churning.

It is believed that Terrell beat the children with broomsticks and whipped them with cable wire. He is accused of burning the 8-year-old child’s foot with a lit cigarette. Authorities believe the child had also been sexually assaulted. And for some twisted, fucked up reason, Terrell pulled on the child’s belly button with nail clippers. W.T.F? And, if all of that isn’t enough to make you nauseous, Terrell admitted to slicing the 10-year-old’s fingernails, right down the center, with a knife and breaking four of her teeth with a claw hammer.

Terrell Scott, of Bethlehem, turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday. He now sits behind bars on $500,000 bail, facing charges of attempted rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault, three counts of indecent assault, indecent exposure and 11 counts each of endangering the welfare of children and simple assault. Two of the children are now in state custody and one is staying with friends. I’m not finding anything being reported on the mother, but, you can not tell me she didn’t know what the fuck was going on in that house. If there is any justice in the world at all, I will be able to add her name to this story in the near future. There does seem to be a Myspace out there in Terrell’s name, but, since I can’t guarantee it is his, I won’t post the link.

Have you ever tried a new food and the taste that assaults your senses is strong, vibrant, and oh, so exotic? You spend the first few bites trying to determine if you even like it or not. But in a very short time you find that your mouth simply cannot be without the flavor. On a few rare occasions, a book will be that way for me. It’s the literary equivalent of my first experience with an Indian restaurant, or, in this case, authentic Spanish cuisine. Santiago Roncagliolo offers up a wonderful new taste experience with his debut novel, Red April.

Everything in this story was strange and different for me. And I loved it! Roncagliolo is a native Spaniard who writes with the rhythms of his people. The over-all feel of manners and civility permeates every aspect of the text, and adds to the atmosphere of the small Peruvian town that is the stories main setting. We are introduced to Associate District Prosecutor Felix Chacaltana Saldivar. That his full name and title are used repeatedly in the text reinforces the proper, ordered structure of the society we are meant to understand. Chacaltana is an anti-hero. He is the least likely to make an impact on anything, let alone a murder investigation.

When we first meet Felix, he is a lowly public servant, without any real power. His world is reports and procedures. The more we learn about him, the more we realize how disturbed this character really is. He is divorced, lives a solitary life, and is methodically transforming a room in his house into a shrine for his long dead mother. He has no personal skills, and little understands the nuances of normal human interaction. Socially handicapped, he is a by-the-book kind of guy trying to function in an environment of corruption and legendary South American inefficiency.

We learn that due to past trouble with insurrectionists, trouble now “officially” over, this is the first major crime that civil authorities have been allowed to work. Such crimes were the exclusive purview of military intelligence up to this point. We get to watch as Felix grows into his role of investigator, and feel all of the pains along the way. But don’t think for a second that this book is merely an exercise in character development. The plot is intricate and full of gore and intrigue. It twists and turns, and with every new facet we learn more about the small part of the world between Lima and Cuzco. The more we learn, the more our attitudes about “right” and “truth” are challenged, right along with those of our ersatz hero. This is tale of finding ones place in the harsh realities of life, of gaining trust in ones self, and of the darker, animalistic nature we all possess, but are, thankfully, rarely forced to acknowledge.

This is also the story of the investigation in to a series of brutal and ritualistic killings. Roncagliolo has a knack of presenting the evidence and clues in a way that doesn’t telegraph the ending. Every new development had me reformulating my theories, and at times I was left simply dumbfounded. Chacaltana’s journey had me guessing the whole way, and desperately eager for the next clue. From the third chapter , right through the end, this book was rating a 5 in the back of my mind. I was never disappointed. The romantic element was vital and compelling. The setting was truly a different world, yet very real. Chacaltana’s growth and continuing neurosis held me spellbound. The climax is tight and concise, with a tension filled action scene that is not overdone. The closing pages put a tragic and profoundly moving capstone on a beautifully crafted novel.

I cannot adequately convey my appreciation of this book. and I would recommend it vigorously to all but the shallowest of readers.

Jerry Barker, Jr. and Tater

Jerry David Barker, Jr. , 26, is a shit-head who was living with his girlfriend and her two young sons. This last Monday, his girlfriend’s sons were in the backyard playing with their puppy, Tater, when the puppy nipped one of the boys. Barker blew up and began kicking and beating the puppy relentlessly. I warn the more sensitive readers to skip to the last paragraph now. You have been warned.

Jerry Barker’s rage did not stop there. He tied the puppy up, hung it from a tree and continued to beat the poor animal with a shovel. While the young boys continued to watch this sadistic scum’s rampage, Barker grabbed a nail studded board and beat the puppy with it. Then, he picked up a garden hose and whipped the defenseless pup until his bloody body ceased to breathe air. During this entire rampage, Barker continuously tried to get the boys to participate in the beating, but they refused.

Barker buried the puppy’s remains in the backyard and told the boys that if they told their mother what happened, he would beat them just like he did Tater. Someone did tell, and Barker was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty and child abuse. He is being held in the Columbia County Detention Facility without bond. Investigators recovered the puppy’s remains and sent them to a veterinarian for an autopsy. The boys have been referred for counseling.

*Note: Sources had conflicting reports on the exact age of the puppy. One said 4-months and others said 8-months. Either way, it was still just a puppy who nipped at a child, as almost all puppies tend to do during various stages of their youth. No innocent living thing deserves to be tortured and beaten to death this way.

Los Lunas, N.M.–“These innocent children were treated like livestock,” said Valencia County Deputy Sheriff Joe Martinez. Shit…livestock gets treated better than these kids did. The children, three girls and one boy, ages 3, 4, 4, and 6, were removed from their Los Lunas home early Friday evening. Deputies report that the children had been duct taped to a chair, with towels placed over their heads, and shocked repeatedly with an electric battery. They had been beaten with a belt. They had been, in essence, tortured.

The adults responsible, Anthony Welker, Kimberly Galczynski, Brenda Mundo, and Gerald Tunnell, have all been arrested and charged with child abuse, kidnapping, and conspiracy. All four are being held on $1 million cash bond. Welker is reported to be the father of three girls that live in the home, his girlfriend, Galczynski, is their mother. Mundo is grandmother to the three girls and guardian to the boy, and Tunnel isn’t related to any of the kids…he’s Mundo’s boyfriend and supposedly the most sadistic of the quartet. So far, that is the only information being released on this one. We’ll keep you updated and more details are made available.

Wilmington, OH- On May 14, Patricia Waelti had no idea that when she stopped to help a woman she didn’t know with a broken-down car in a Kroger parking lot that she was actually coming face-to-face with a living monster. While the two women chatted, Waelti became horrified when the other woman, Teresa Moore, bragged that she had burnt an 8-year old boy’s fingers as a punishment for smoking cigarettes five days prior.

Moore began telling Waelti that the boy “loves to smoke” and how when she was a little girl, her mother had burnt all her fingers for smoking cigarettes. Moore then said she burnt all ten of the boy’s fingers and had to burn four of them again because they weren’t burnt enough. “I told him I wasn’t doing it to be mean, I was going to teach him,” Moore said. Waelti also noted Moore herself still smoked cigarettes. When Moore proudly showed Waelti the boy’s fingers, Waelti wanted to puke. Waelti said the child’s fingers were as bright Christmas-red sweatshirt and his fingertips covered with blisters that looked like they had been popped and clipped. Waelti became even more shocked when the boy said he had burned his fingers himself and Moore told her, “See? He knows enough to say what we’ll tell him to say.”

Waelti did not report the abuse right away, but after a sleepless night and remembering the way the boy’s big eyes had looked up at her, she reported the crime the next morning to Children’s Services. After an investigation, authorities found the abuse occurred around 9:30 a.m. on May 9 at the boy’s home. It was learned that Moore is the boy’s babysitter and a friend of the family. Moore burned all ten of the boy’s fingers with a cigarette lighter while his crying mother and her boyfriend stood by and watched. Yes, she stood there and fucking watched this Bitch burn her child! The boy was kept from attending school for a week afterward.

Teresa J. Moore, 36, was charged with endangering children, specifically a section that describes torture and abuse. The mother, Michelle M. Worthington, 37, was charged with permitting child abuse. The boyfriend, William L. Ballard, 39, was charged with child endangerment. All three charges are felonies of the third degree, but the prosecutor of the case plans on seeking additional charges through the grand jury in the near future. Each of their bonds were set at $50,000. The boy and his brother are now in the custody of Children’s Services.

Fargo, ND- A week ago today, a 25-year old woman who was leaving work was approached by the father of one of her children, 23-year old Shawntas Turnage. He told her, “If you don’t get into my car, I’m going to kill you.” The woman got into his car and Shawntas drove her to the home of his his wife, Aiesha Turnage, where he was given $100 by his wife’s brother. Then they traveled to a home in Lexington. When the woman tried to leave, Shawntas punched her in the face, forced her to strip at knife-point and stabbed her in the left arm and shoulder. Shawntas tied her ankles and wrists behind her back as she lay on her stomach and put a pillowcase over her head.

When his wife Aiesha arrived, she retrieved a pan of boiling water from the stove and gave it to her husband. Shawntas poured the water on the bound woman’s upper thighs as he kicked and stomped her. Later that evening, after his wife left, Shawntas moved the woman to a bed and raped her. The next morning, Aiesha returned. Shawntas held a knife to the woman’s back while Aiesha drove the three of them to a hotel in Roseville. In a room there, Shawntas choked and punched the woman and then raped her again. I have a quite a few different theories that got me scratching my head on this one. One…is that the $100 payment Shawntas received from his brother-in-law was because of a bet on whether Shawntas would really go through with his threats about the woman. Another, is possibly some drug money owed. Those are just my take on the whole traumatic episode, but it does have me wondering what the woman did so bad to make them think she deserved such torture.

Shawntas Turnage was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, second-degree assault and terroristic threats. His wife, Aiesha Turnage, 25, was charged with aiding and abetting kidnapping as well as aiding and abetting third-degree assault.

Bakersfield, California–‘My daddy bit my eyes and hands. My daddy ate my eyes out.’ Those were the words uttered by 4-year-old Angelo Mendoza Jr. when officers found him, naked and bloody, on the floor in his father’s apartment. The child had numerous bite marks on his hands. And OMFG, his eyes–one of them was missing and one was badly damaged.  Neighbors say the child’s father, Angelo Vidal Mendoza Sr., clad in boxers and a sweater, was acting a little ‘off’ on April 28. Ramon Rodriguez said the wheelchair bound Mendoza Sr. wheeled himself into his front yard and asked him to play with him and pet a dog. Rodriguez, probably more than a little freaked out, refused. Mendoza Sr. then got off his wheelchair, dragged himself into the back yard, and picked up an ax.

By the time Rodriguez made it to the back yard, Mendoza Sr. was butt naked and had chained himself to a tree. He took the ax and began hacking away at his leg. ‘He told me to look into the sun and pray with him. I was kinda scared for a minute,’ said Rodriguez. Somehow, Rodriguez managed to disarm Mendoza Sr., nearly getting bit in the process. After witnessing that horror, neighbors went to Mendoza’s apartment to check on little Angelo. Rodriguez was one of the first people to discover the bloodied child. (Good luck getting that image out of your head). Had he known what the man had done to little Angelo, ‘I would’ve just let him cut his leg off.’

Little Angelo’s mother, Desirae, had been to the apartment earlier to deliver a pizza. Her son was screaming, ‘Mommy, mommy, I want to go with you. I’m scared.’ Desirae thought to herself, ‘Should I take him or leave him?’ She left him there…thinking he was safe with his father. She. Left. Him. There.

Let’s have a look at Mendoza Sr.’s priors…he has at least 22 prior criminal court cases, including a no contest plea in April 2006 on misdemeanor willful cruelty to a child, for which he served probation. And yet, he was granted full custody of little Angelo. Interesting.

Little Angelo is now blind. Doctors report that the boy’s left eye and muscle were completely missing. His other eye was mutilated beyond repair. His mother stated that he is being cared for by her sister and is now doing fine.

Angelo Vidal Mendoza Sr., 34, is still recovering from his self-inflicted injuries and is listed in stable condition, unfortunately. It appears he was under the influence of a controlled substance *cough PCP cough* at the time. His bail has been set at $1 million and he’s facing charges of torture, aggravated mayhem, and cruelty to a child. I say, let him have a go with the ax again…maybe this time, he’ll do it right and aim a bit higher.

Corona, California–Belinda Magana called police Sunday evening to report that her 2-year-old son, Malachi Magana, had disappeared from Lincoln Park while on a Mother’s Day outing with his family. Officers and volunteers searched for Malachi, by land and by air, all night and into the next morning with no luck. The search was called off Monday afternoon–not because Malachi had been found safe and well, but because his mother and her boyfriend tripped up on their lies.

‘Early on in the investigation, things weren’t adding up,’ Corona Police Lt. Mark Johnson said. ‘Their stories weren’t matching.’ Further questioning of Magana and her boyfriend, Naresh Narine, revealed that Malachi was never at the park…police believe he’d been dead since Saturday. It has been determined that Magana and Naresh injured the child and buried him in a shallow grave in the Lytle Creek area, about 35 miles north of Corona.

Belinda Magana, 23, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and being an accessory to murder. Naresh Narine, 37, was arrested on suspicion of murder, torture, and child abuse causing injury or death. Investigators are awaiting a positive identification of the body and exact cause of death from the coroner’s office and are not releasing details on the child’s injuries. Malachi’s 4-year-old brother was placed into protective custody.
