Honolulu, Hawaii – Residents of a Makiki apartment building heard the screams of a woman early Monday morning. “We heard her scream, a woman’s voice,” said apartment resident Clarita Antonio. “When my great-grandson said what’s that somebody fall down.” Upon investigating, they found the body of a 10-year-old girl laying broken in a grassy area of the apartments a few feet from a seldom-used stairwell. She had fallen from the fifth or fourth floor. She was rushed to the hospital but died shortly afterward from multiple internal injuries. On Wednesday, the city Department of the Medical Examiner has concluded that the girl took her own life. Investigators have found a suicide note but have not revealed the contents. Her father is the manager of the 11-story building and the girl has a younger sibling. Her parents were home at the time of the incident. I don’t know about any of you, but it is hard enough for me to wrap my brain around a 10-year-old girl coming to the conclusion that suicide – by jumping no less – was her only option. KISSIMMEE, Florida – September 19th was a long day of drinking and arguing between Phillip Lee Rogers, 63, and his wife Tammy Rogers. At some point, Rogers looked at his wife and asked “Why don’t you just kill yourself?” Tammy then asked for Phillip’s gun. She placed the gun to her head, pulled the trigger but nothing happened. The gun was not loaded. She then told Phillip to put load the gun, which he did by placing one round in the chamber and handing her the gun back. Tammy then placed the gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger. Tammy was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center where she survived her injuries, although she is now unable to care for herself. Following their investigation, police arrested Phillip on Friday, charging him with assisting with an attempted suicide.

Brooklyn, NY - Oh, to be young in love. There’s the initial meeting when the sparks fly. Then you got the inevitable butterflies in your stomach when your loved one looks at you that certain way. Following that, it’s those three little words that seem to mean the world to so many people – ” Hey. Wanna fuck?” Oh wait, wrong words. Oops. You soon realize that this is the person you want to spend the rest of your entire life with – you pop the question. Tears are shed, acceptances are made, everything is just fine and hunky-friggin-dory. A date is set. Plans are made and invitations are sent out. Finally, the big day arrives. You both utter your undying love, devotion, obedience, and all that other happy crap and a guy in a robe makes it all legal in the eyes of the law and of the lord. You eat cake, open presents, and scold your drunk Uncle Frank for hitting on your new bride/groom. After all the crap is over, it’s time for the best part (aside from the cake and presents) – the honeymoon. The ritzy hotel room, the sex, the champagne, the sex, the seven story suicide plunge from the balcony. Sigh. Isn’t it romantic?

Mordechai ‘Motty’ Borger, 24, and his new bride, Mali, had been married for just two days when Motty apparently took that leap of faith from the balcony of their seventh-floor honeymoon suite at the Avenue Plaza Hotel in Brooklyn at about 6:45 a.m. Thursday. Mali wasn’t aware of her husband’s death until the concierge woke her that morning. As with any suicide, friends and family are shocked. Most are saying that Motty appeared content and unlikely to take his own life. “He sang, he danced, he was the happiest kid on the planet,” said a friend who was but one wedding guest among the 500 who attended the reportedly lavish wedding. “The guy was so full of life. He was so happy to marry her,” said another wedding guest. A friend of the bride had this to say: “She’s a nice, sweet girl. They have money, so that wasn’t a problem.”

Authorities are reviewing surveillance video, including a clip of an apparently agitated Motty in an elevator with his bride. A source close to the investigation claims that Motty was “emotionally disturbed.” Yeah, I guess you would have to be a tad ‘off’ to plummet seven stories to your death. (For real, homicidal suicidal thoughts didn’t even factor in to my marriage until I was about 5.5 years in). Wonder what he was thinking there at the end? My heart goes out to Mali and both families.

Tulsa, OK - Having spent time in prison for sex crimes against children, Johnnie Joe Hobbs had no desire to revisit the Gray Bar Hotel. As a matter of fact, when the convicted sex offender discovered his parole was about to be revoked, he got a little hot under the collar. Tulsa County sheriff’s deputies paid a visit to Johnnie Joe Thursday afternoon to serve three protective orders – tagging along were officers from the state parole board who were there to haul Johnnie Joe back to the slammer on a parole violation. Officers spotted him sitting in a cargo van parked in his cluttered yard – as they approached the vehicle, Johnnie Joe slammed the door, doused the inside of the van with gasoline and lit it up.

“There are a lot of people that will do a lot of things to keep from going back to jail,” Capt. John Bowman said. “To use a flammable liquid to ignite where they are, I have not seen that before.” And see it, they did. There were concerns that Johnnie Joe may have been armed and because of the danger imposed on rescue workers, the fire department didn’t immediately extinguish the blaze. After about 30 minutes, the fire was put out and authorities entered the van to discover Johnnie Joe’s flambéed body in the cab. No weapons were found.

Johnnie Joe Hobbs, 47, is no more. According to the DOC website, Johnnie Joe was convicted for lewd molestation of a child, showing obscene material to a child, and lewd or indecent proposals to a child. Self-immolation – get’s ‘em every time.

MUNCIE, Ind – A lot of questions and opinions with this story, but no real answers. 21-year-old Jacob Sexton got into an argument with Show Place theater employees over being carded to see the “R” rated Zombieland. Sexton was home on leave from Afghanistan, scheduled to return next week. He had been drinking and was accompanied by his two brothers and a friend. Approximately 20 minutes into the film, Sexton asked to see his brother’s gun. Sexton then loaded the chamber and shot himself in the head. His brother said that, before Jake pulled the trigger, he pushed his friend out of the way so the friend would not get injured. Witnesses reported hearing a loud pop, then the Jacob’s companions screaming; one of them beating on a wall in anguish. A lot of people surprised with this one, with a lot of people who knew the guy coming forward stating that this was just a drunk kid who got stupid with a gun. But from the descriptions of his actions, it sure does seem like suicide. But either way, accident or not, drunk or not – my condolences to his friends and family.

BETHLEHEM, Pa – Twin brothers Timothy and Thomas Willgruber, both aged 56, had a history of alcohol abuse and drunk driving. But not any longer. Last month the brothers were attending Celtic Fest, and Thomas was trying to help his drunk brother parallel park a minivan. For some drunken reason, Timothy lost control of the vehicle and ended up crushing Thomas’ leg in between the van and a parked SUV. Thomas died 8-hours later. Timothy failed the sobriety test at the scene and it was later revealed he had a blood-alcohol level of .20. Even though Bethlehem police Capt. David Kravatz says Timothy Willgruber was “devastated” after the accident and family members say the brothers were best friends, homicide charges were expected – but now that wont be necessary. Timothy hung himself on Tuesday.

My disdain and hatred of people who drive drunk is pretty well-known around here, and I do feel bad for the friends and family of these two men. But these two had a history of driving drunk. I am not understanding the sympathy that was shown towards Timothy after the accident. Had this been a little girl he crushed to death, or some stranger, people would have been demanding his suicide. Should the law treat people who break laws differently because they may truly be sorry for what they have done? Or that they killed a loved on accidentally in the process?

Castroville, CA - According to the Megan’s Law website, John Seitcher was convicted on charges of lewd and/or lascivious acts with a child under 14, indecent exposure, and continual sexual abuse. Though the length of his prison sentence is unknown, it has been reported that Seitcher was paroled in May. Like many registered sex offenders we have written about on this site, Seitcher, 46, failed to keep his slimy paws off of the little ones. His girlfriend called 911 Friday morning to report that she had come home and found the vile bastard sexually assaulting her 10-year-old daughter. The woman grabbed her child and fled to a neighbors home to call police. Seitcher, the fucking coward, wasn’t about to go back to the pokey – he had his own punishment in mind.

Shortly after the initial 911 call, cops arrived on the scene and politely asked Seitcher to exit the home. They got no response. They tried to make contact with him by phone – that was a no-go. They pleaded with him over a PA. Nada. After nearly two hours of worthless coaxing and pleading, authorities entered the home and in the master bathroom, they found Seitcher’s lifeless body. Though neighbors reported hearing a gunshot before deputies arrived on the scene, authorities state that Seitcher did not die from a gunshot wound, but from self-inflicted stab wounds. Is it evil of me to hope that mom got a little stabby before she took off with the kid and informed the proper authorities? Deputies haven’t officially named Seitcher as the dead guy they found in the bathroom pending notification of his family, but a quick address search on the sex offender registry revealed who he was. Good riddance.

The victim and her mother were both taken to the hospital for examination. Authorities are mum on the details of the sexual assault and the child has been released to her father. I have to wonder if mom was aware of the perv’s status – if she was, what the fuck was she thinking?

CHESNEE, S.C. - I heard this one on the news this morning, and what Ricky Lee Blackwell, 49, did just absolutely sickens me in just how cold-blooded it was. On Wednesday, Ricky’s estranged wife went to their adult daughter’s trailer to swim. She brought her current boyfriend’s daughter, 8-year-old Heather Center, along with her. At some point Ricky, who lives next door, arrived at the residence. No reports on what kind of exchange happened between Ricky and his estranged wife, but Ricky grabbed Heather in a headlock, and shot her once in the head. He then shot her a few more times as she fell to the ground.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Heather lying face down in a driveway. They could see that she had been shot in the leg, the center of her back, and there was blood coming from her right ear. Ricky eventually emerged from some nearby woods he had been hiding in. This piece of shit, after committing this cowardly act, then committed another by shooting himself in the side when police closed in on him. He has since recovered from surgery and once coherent, he will be charged with murder and kidnapping.

Police say that Ricky has a long criminal record, but are as shocked as we are at what he has done. “I don’t know where you can go in the mind to justify shooting a child,” said Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright. “I don’t understand how you can get so angry.” One neighbor (who wanted to remain unidentified) stated that “Ricky was a fine man…He must have just lost it. I really don’t know why he done what he done. But in my mind, Ricky has always been a fine man.”

My condolences to Heather’s family, I couldn’t possibly fathom what you are going through right now.

Axton, Virginia It’s after midnight on a Saturday, a time for all good college kids to be hitting their drinking prime or making their way back to their dorm room looking for the perfect opportunity to sneak their love for the evening into the comfort of their room. But for Timothy Carter, activities after midnight on Saturday were a bit more adventurous. Guided by the loving hand of his father, Timothy was lured home only to find daddy had flipped and that his basic survival instincts would be put to the test after his father turned the gun on him. 

Saturday evening Timothy Carter received a phone call from his father asking him to drive the 90 miles home from Radford University, simply stating his mother really needed to speak with him. Upon arriving at his parent’s house, William Carter lured his son into the basement of their ranch-style home where his mother, Bonnie (56), and his brother William Carter Jr. (28), lay dead on the floor. Seems like dad wasn’t so good at keeping his secret for his plans for Timothy as he quickly opened fire on him as well, shooting him in the back. Of course, the natural reaction would be an attempt to flee from the insanity, which he tried but his father was insistent he stay and shot him a second time. I can’t even begin to imagine the thoughts running through one’s mind in this situation and I’m sure Timothy had plenty, the best one being to play dead…which he did.

When William retreated away from the basement and into another portion of the house, Timothy was able to escape to safety at a neighbors where a call was placed to 911. The surviving son explained how his father had used trickery to lure him into the horrifying scene. As authorities arrived, the house was ablaze. The bodies of Bonnie and William Jr. were recovered, as well as William Sr. who had shot himself after attempting to create the family funeral pyre. The firearms were also recovered from the crime scene along with evidence of the premeditated murder-suicide in the form of a “putting final affairs in order” letter. Timothy is still hospitalized and listed in fair condition.

Corona, CA – Once again, we have a story of a selfish asshole who wanted to off himself and take his family with him.  And of course, once again he succeeds at murdering his babies and only injuring himself.  They have no motive at this time, but it is said that Amado Esqueda and his wife had separated shortly before he completely lost his shit and went on a stabbing rampage killing his two young daughters, seriously injuring his wife and injuring himself.

Around 6:30 AM on Saturday morning, Irene Gonzales called 911 to report that her husband was stabbing her and her children.  6 year old Cassandra and 2 month old Natalie both died of multiple stab wounds at the hospital.  Gonzales remains in serious condition, and Esqueda is in the hospital ward at the jail with stab wounds.  Esqueda also had 2 teenage children who were not home at the time.

Neighbors say this was a nice normal family that set off no red flags.  They never heard any arguments or witnessed any conflict.  Esqueda had no prior arrests, and court records only show a one traffic ticket  in 2007.  So what made this man snap?  I don’t know, but someone who could stab his own 2 month old and kindergartner to death over some marital problems doesn’t deserve to be breathing the same air as the rest of us.  He now faces the death penalty, but with the way the economy is, I’m thinking it wouldn’t be so bad if suicide watch was a little lax and the supply of strong bedsheets were abundant.  The taxpayers could use a break.

ATHENS, Georgia – He was also a Georgia professor who was pretty miffed at his wife. On April 25th, he left his kids in the car and shot her -along with two of her friends- to death outside of a community theater. He then dropped the kids off at a neighbor’s house claiming there had been an emergency, and disappeared. Until yesterday. His body was found in a grave he dug himself, crawled into and then blew his brains out.

It is being reported that Bruce wanted a divorce, but Zinkhan left no note so there are still some questions as to why he killed the three people before himself. But the fact that he first targeted a male friend his wife was with speaks volumes, don’t ya’ think? George and his wife argued briefly in front of the theater, when Zinkahn used two handguns to first shoot Clemson University economist and actor Tom Tanner, 40, then his wife Marie Bruce, 47 and then Ben Teague, 63.

There had been a manhunt for him ever since the shootings, until his body was found hidden in some woods near where he lived. He had dug a grave, pulled brush and debris on top of himself and then scrambled his brains. “A person who is not accustomed to the woods would never have found the body,” said Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Joseph Lumpkin. What a dick. Not only did he murder three people, for whatever reason, he tried to hide his body for what? To make people think he was still alive? To torture his children further? Good grief and good riddance.

Casselberry, Florida–You may recall a story I posted  recently about Marie Moore. The  40-year-old woman who rented a gun from Shoot Straight Gun Range, shot her son in the back of the head, then killed herself. Shoot Straight is back in the news…this time, 26-year-old Jason Kevin McCarthy decided to take his leave of this earth with a bullet inside the range.

After the Moore murder-suicide, Straight Shoot tried to conduct the same background checks on gun renters that state law requires them to conduct on buyers. But, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which runs the background checks, shot ‘em down. The FDLE said it was not allowed to do it and wouldn’t do it. Period. While Shoot Straight questions potential renters about mental competency, prescribed meds, and criminal history, there is no way for them to confirm the answers given are true. Fast forward to Monday….

Jason Kevin McCarthy, 26, entered the gun range and asked to rent a gun. After being handed the paperwork necessary to rent, McCarthy stated he ‘had something to do first,’ then left the store. He returned at 5:40 p.m., filled out the paperwork and rented a 9mm handgun. Minutes later, he was dead from a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head. While this incident wasn’t witnessed by other range patrons, it was, again, captured on video surveillance.

Queens Center Mall

Queens, NY–A trip to the mall is an activity that I try to avoid at all costs. The crowds, the teenagers, the tired and screaming children, the overwhelming stench of three thousand different brands of cologne and perfume, combined to form one extremely noxious vapor cloud…all of it. It’s bad enough to have people elbowing and shoving you out of the way on their quest for a white sale, but to actually have a person land in your lap in their quest for death, that’s a whole ‘nother thing.

Derrick Munoz and his girlfriend, Daniela Giraldo, were chillin’ at the Queens Center Mall on Wednesday. Taking advantage of the bill-operated massage chairs on the ground floor, the two were casually chatting when they heard ‘Don’t jump! Don’t jump!’ Then, the unthinkable and unimaginable happened. ‘We were talking and all of a sudden I feel something heavy on me,’ said Daniela. ‘I get up and I see a lady on the floor.’ Daniela looked over to her boyfriend–Derrick was bleeding from a wound on his head.

A young man came racing down the escalator, screaming, ‘Nooo!’ He rushed to the body lying motionless on the floor. Chaos ensued. People were running and screaming. ‘It was very disturbing,’ said Raul Martinez, an employee at the Armani Exchange store who saw the jump. ‘Her head was literally all over the floor.’ The jumper, 55-year-old Mary Lovelace, decided the mall was an appropriate venue to commit suicide. How fucking lovely.

According to eyewitnesses, Lovelace , accompanied by two teenagers, asked one of her young companions to hold her purse and shoes. She then scaled a glass barrier on the third floor of the mall, and made the 60-foot leap…landing right on top of Derrick and his girlfriend. Though news articles don’t mention who the woman’s companions were, I have to wonder if they were her children.

Derrick Munoz, 17, was rushed to Elmhurst Medical Center. Derrick required 23 staples to close a three-inch wound in his head. Released from the hospital on Wednesday, Derrick returned to the hospital on Friday. His wounds had reopened and he began vomiting. I’ve heard nothing about his current condition. His girlfriend, Daniela Giraldo, 18, is shaken but otherwise unharmed. A motive behind the suicide is unknown.

Laval, Quebec — As we announced in our forums earlier, our pedestals have gotten so high, and our rock-throwing arms so strong, we think we can hit Canada. So we will now start featuring Canadian crimes to go with the ones from the US of A. Starting with Adele Sorella. This 42-year-old mother of two has just been charged with 1st-degree-murder in connection with the poisoning deaths of her two daughters, Sabrina De Vito, 8, and Amanda De Vito, 9.

Adele’s neighbors stated that she had been suffering a bout of depression ever since the girls’ father, Giuseppe De Vito, went missing after a police issued a warrant for his arrest in relation to organized crime and drug charges suspects back in 2006. The two girls were found in Sorella’s home in Laval, north of Montreal, on Tuesday by relatives. This lady has been battling some demons for a couple years it seems. She has attempted suicide twice. Once in 2007 when a trucker restrained her from jumping off of an overpass, and again last year when she was taken to a hospital after she overdosed on medication.

Police found Sorella the day after her daughters bodies were discovered after crashing her Lexus SUV into a lamppost. Police do not believe it was on purpose. Although uninjured, she was incoherent and taken to the hospital before being taken into custody. She appeared in court on Thursday and was ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric evaluation to determine if she is able to comprehend court proceedings. Reports say she looked disoriented and stared at the floor while tapping her thumbs together. She will return to court on May 4.

Somewhere out there, if alive, Giuseppe De Vito is either sighing with relief or feeling pretty shitty.

Gastonia, NC – Kim Sprenger’s car smelled funny all weekend. She first noticed it on Saturday night, but the smell was worse on Sunday when she drove some women to church. By 6:00 Sunday evening, Sprenger started scouring her car for the source of the stench. When she opened the trunk of her 2007 Ford Taurus, she found it. Her ex-boyfriend, Ricky Dale Simonds Sr., was inside her trunk. And he was ripe with the miasma of decomposition.

Sprenger did what any normal woman would do on finding a dead ex-boyfriend in her car trunk: she freaked. Then she called police. Sure enough, the body belonged to the 49 year old Simonds, who also used the last name Simmonds and Simmons. Kim Sprenger had taken out a restraining order a week earlier against him after she believed he had broken into her car. Looks like he broke into it again – and either wouldn’t get out, or couldn’t.

But the story gets weirder. See, Jamie Fraley has been missing since April 8. And Jamie Fraley’s boyfriend is Ricky Dale Simonds, Jr., the son of the dead guy in the car trunk. Jamie had been living in a Gastonia apartment complex – the same apartment complex where the elder Simonds and Kim Sprenger had been living before their breakup.

And Simonds, Sr. was no stranger to violence. In 1986, he was convicted of manslaughter after he strangled his girlfriend. Since his 1992 parole, his rap sheet has been less violent, but in April and May, Gastonia police alerted Kim Sprenger that the elder Simonds was watching her. She herself reported stalking behavior, hence the recent restraining order.

Jamie Fraley’s disappearance was just weird. She had the stomach flu and had been to the hospital twice already on the April evening she went missing. She was trying to get a third ride to the ER, but her boyfriend, Ricky Dale Simonds Jr., said she never showed up. Her purse, keys and ID were found in her locked apartment, and her cell phone was found on the side of a local road two days later. No sign of Jamie has been found.

Jamie Fraley has a lot of Myspace pages: here, here, here and here. Two of them use the name “Jamie Simonds”.  She is white, tiny at 4′8″ and just 90 pounds, with blond shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. And she’s a true crime buff – one of her Myspaces is a tribute to JonBenet Ramsey. Another Myspace page is dedicated to missing persons, especially Samantha Rae Mendez from Gastonia, who has been missing since 2005.

So what happened to Jamie Fraley? Is it possible that Ricky Dale Simonds, Sr. held the answer? My gut says yes. Maybe he was an idiot who got too hot while stalking Kim Sprenger and couldn’t unlock the safety latch in her trunk. Maybe he was suicidal and wanted to frame Kim Sprenger for his death. Or maybe he didn’t get into the car trunk by himself after all. Did he know something about Jamie Fraley? Did he do something to Jamie Fraley?

It’s gonna be very interesting to see how this plays out. And while I hope very much that Jamie is alive, eight weeks is a long time to be missing without a trace. Nothing in her Myspaces, one of which was accessed the day she disappeared, indicates a problem. No trace since April 8? That doesn’t look good. And now one guy who might have some answers is dead.

Jamie’s mother says, “I feel like she’s still out there and I’m going to believe that until someone shows me otherwise.” I hope for her sake and Jamie’s that she’s right.
