STATEN ISLAND, NY – I’m just getting back from vacation and behind on the news, so I’m just going to post some stories I found interesting, starting with the 15-year-old high school freshman who jumped in front of a train last week because she was tired of being bullied by members of her high school’s football team.
Felicia Garcia, a 15-year-old student at Tottenville High School, was being picked on because of rumors that she slept with multiple members of the football team at a party held after a game. After school administrators heard about the rumors, they met with Garcia and the 17-year-old boy who was singled out as the main instigator.
Reports are that the meeting ended with Garcia running out while shouting at the boy. Her friends say that Garcia normally didn’t let the bullying bother her. She’d already had a tough life with her parents dying when she was young and being bounced between foster homes after running away from her aunt’s home to be with an older man.…
According to reports, 28-year-old Rebecca Sardoni boarded a school bus Friday morning with her 51-year-old mother, Stephanie Sardoni. The pair were on the bus looking for one of the kids they say have been bullying Rebecca’s daughter as she rode the bus to and from East Dover Elementary School.
“Who is Vinny?” she asked according to other students and the bus driver. When Vinny raised his hand, the mother-daughter pair walked to the back of the bus where he was sitting and had a talk with him about his alleged bullying.
By “talk with him” I mean that they screamed and cursed at them while Rebecca allegedly slapped Vinny in the face. Not quite satisfied, Rebecca then slapped the face of the boy who was sitting next to Vinny. She also told them that she was taking them to court.
Both Vinny and the other boy were treated by Toms River school nurses for cuts to their mouths.…
MIDLOTHIAN, VA - A teacher has been fired after a former student shamed her all to hell on Twitter by revealing he had sex with her and backed up his claims with a series of nude photos and explicit text messages she’d sent him.
Justin Foster is a former student at Cosby High School in Midlothian, Virginia. The 18-year-old got drunk the other day and took to his Twitter with claims of some really big news to come. “Hahahaha oh man shit going down tonight please if you attend Cosby or used to please be on twitter it’ll be a treat” he posted Tuesday night. He wasn’t kidding.
What followed was a series of posts that contained nude photos of Anna Michelle Walters, a substitute teacher at Cosby High that Foster claims to have had sex with when he was a 17-year-old student there.
He also included a series of text messages between him and Walters that make it pretty clear that the two were involved in a sexual relationship. Aside from her telling Foster that by him having sex with her that he is the envy of his entire class, she also informs him that she had to adjust her vagina to accommodate his huge penis.…
COVINGTON, KY — The former Bengals cheerleader and high school teacher, accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student, has accepted a plea deal.
Sarah Jones, 27, was a cheerleader for the Bengals for five years before she started teaching English at Dixie Heights High School in Kentucky. She has been under house arrest after being charged with sexual abuse, accused of sleeping with a 16-year-old football player at the school in 2011. The alleged sexual relationship with the student took place between October 1 and December 31.
She would deny she ever had sex with the student, claiming the rumors were started by a bitter ex-girlfriend of the teen, but did admit that there were over 9,000 pages of photos, Facebook messages and texts between her and the student. Aside from the sexual abuse charge, she was also charged with unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities.
Her trial was to start this Wednesday, where she was facing up to 5 years in prison if convicted.…
WILKES-BARRE, PA – In the comment section of a recent teen suicide we reported on, the subject of suicides being contagious came up. I didn’t know it at the time, but Luzerne County has lost four teenagers to suicide in the last week, all within 30 miles of each other.
If there are any inaccuracies with the following details, I apologize. I had to read about fifteen different articles and a ton of comments just to hash everything out.
On Sept. 18, 13-year-old Joshuah Delos Santos from Nanticoke shot himself. Bullying seems to be involved, although officials say they have not seen any proof of that. But over at the Joshuah Delos Santos Memorial Fund, his cousin reportedly stated otherwise. “The morning of September 18, 2012, my cousin Joshuah Allen Delos Santos decided to end his life because he was being bullied,” she said. Comments on a Facebook tribute page echoed her claims.
On Sept. 21, in Jenkins Township, 16-year-old Matthew Montagna used a hunting rifle to kill himself at his home.…
STILLWATER, OK – Yesterday, 13-year-old Cade Poulos came to Stillwater Junior High School dressed as the Batman villain Two Face, then used a handgun to kill himself in a hallway full of fellow students.
Poulos was in the crowded hallway at around 7:50 a.m. Wednesday. It was Super-Hero Dress Up Day at the school, and for reasons unknown, Poulos arrived dressed as a villain. It was during a prayer time before the morning bell sounded that Poulos pulled out a handgun and shot himself in the head.
Immediately after the shooting, the school was locked down, students were evacuated, and parents were asked to pick up their children via a district messaging system.
Initial reports were hinting at bullying as the reason for the teen’s decision to commit suicide, possibly because of some statements made on a Facebook memorial. But Stillwater superintendent Ann Caine said the district had no records of Poulos being bullied and his family have also stated that Poulus was not a victim of bullying.
Whatever the reason was, we may never know what caused Poulos to kill himself in front of his peers.…
FORT LEE, N.J. – A 16-year-old boy was killed Friday night after he stuck his head outside a double-decker party bus and struck the underside of a highway overpass.
Daniel Fernandez was with 65 other teens in a party bus headed towards a Sweet 16 party in New Jersey. The bus was crossing the George Washington Bridge from New York when Fernandez stuck his head out of an emergency hatch located in the roof of the bus, and his head hit the Fletcher Avenue Underpass.
The security guard on the bus says he told the teens, multiple times, to quit messing with the hatch. “I told them not to open the hatch, like three or four times, but kids, they don’t understand,” said 41-year-old Alex Franco.
Franco says that the incident happened when he walked downstairs to tell the driver it was getting too hot in the bus. That’s when he said he heard people screaming and ran back upstairs to see what happened and saw Fernandez laying on the floor covered in blood.…
Laredo, TX — The mother of a 6-year-old child says a teacher instructed an entire classroom of kindergartners to line up and slap her son because of his alleged bullying. Now two Salinas Elementary School teachers have been placed on leave, and the mother of the boy wants criminal charges filed.
The incident happened in May, but the boy never told his mother about it. It only came to light after one of the teachers present alerted school officials two weeks after it happened, and after a police report of the incident reached the county district attorney.
There’s two versions of what happened, neither of which are acceptable, but the mother’s version is a bit more extreme while the teacher’s version is a bit more believable.
According to the mother, her son admits he had been acting up in line. His teacher, described as “relatively young,” asked another teacher what she should do to curtail his bullying. The other teacher took the boy into her classroom and had him sit down before instructing 24 other kindergartners to file past him and give him a nice slap.…
Montreal, CA — A Montreal area teacher has been suspended with pay after showing the infamous 1 Lunatic, 1 Ice Pick video.
The video, which allegedly shows the murder of Jun Lin, is probably not part of the approved curriculum for high-school students, but one unnamed teacher is obviously a real free spirit. To his credit, he did ask for a show of hands before showing the video, so that makes it okay, right?
The video, which was circulated on the Internet before the murder of Lin was discovered, shows the killer stabbing and dismembering the body of Jun Lin, a Chinese exchange student, and then proceeding to sexually violate and cannibalize the corpse.
Parents and administrators are understandably outraged that the teacher felt this was appropriate for high-school students. The Commission Scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys (the school board responsible for the area) released a statement on Wednesday stating, “we condemn with one voice the actions of the teacher who showed students a video whose content was as inappropriate as it was offensive,” and assured the media that “the incident is being taken very seriously.”
Quebec Education Minister Michelle Courchesne stated “It displays a total lack of judgement” on behalf of the teacher and called the incident “frightening.” The teacher has since apologized to the school via email. …
Portland, OR – A school bus driver suffered bites, scratches and bruises after she was viciously attacked by a 10 to 12-year-old autistic boy riding on the bus.
According to reports, 68-year-old Alice Scoggin was transporting two special needs students to Rock Creek Middle School when a a student with autism began biting her repeatedly, continuing his assault even after she had pulled over.
A passing motorist stopped to assist after seeing the bus with its emergency lights on and Scoggins waving her bloody arms outside the window. The man, a volunteer firefighter, said he witnessed the student biting Scoggin, and that the boy also tried to bite him when he got on the bus. When police arrived to take the boy into custody, he even tried to bite the arresting officer.
Scoggin was transported by ambulance to Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center, suffering from bites on her hands, her arms and possibly her face. Her injuries were not life-threatening. The boy was taken into protective custody at a secure facility, where he’ll undergo a psych exam.…
Modesto, CA – A California teacher who made national headlines for leaving his wife and three children for a teen student, has been accused of sexually abusing a different teenage girl that he taught in 1998.
Jordan Powers, 18, quit school to move in with her teacher James Hooker, 41, has now dumped him following his arrest for alleged sexual misconduct with another student. Jordan, who last February defended their odd pairing on national news, now fears there may be more students
“My heart dropped. I felt betrayed. I just have a gut feeling there are other girls,” Powers said, according to the ABC News interview. She went on to say, “He called me from jail and, yes, I told him that we’re done. I lost everything for this guy. I lost my senior year. I gave up all my friends at high school because they didn’t agree with me.”
Jordan’s mother, Tammie Powers, is pushing for a bill in California that would make it a felony for a public school teacher to date a student in the same school, regardless of age, even if the student is 18.…
New Holland, PA - Police in Pennsylvania have charged a 16-year-old girl after she was reportedly discovered to have more than 350 images of herself engaging in or simulating sexual acts on her school issued computer.
The girl also reportedly had additional videos of herself and 13 videos of other underage children engaged in similar behavior.
“[I am] shocked that that could happen in a public school,” stated Carrie Hantranft, a mother of another Garden Spot High School student. “As parents we need to make sure that the teachers are doing everything they can to make sure that the kids are monitored,” added Hantranft.
“I guess I never really gave it that much thought that somebody would have something like that on there,” another mother, Valerie Muttik, commented.
The 16-year-old has been charged with two counts of possessing obscene and other sexual materials. Additional charges against Garden Spot High School parents for felony cluelessness are, presumably, still pending.…
CHESTER COUNTY, SC — Police have charged a teen girl after she was caught on video assaulting another player during a girl’s high school soccer match.
The attack happened Monday afternoon during a soccer game between Chester High School and Lewisville High School. It was also captured on video by a CN2 News crew.
In the video, 18-year-old Annette McCullough, a player for Lewisville, is passed the ball and ends up tripping and falling to the ground. When she stands up, she immediately begins beating the snot out of an opposing player.
The video shows McCullough dragging the victim to the ground by her hair, then punching her in the head and face at least 11 times. The attack lasts around ten seconds and didn’t stop until a woman comes over and separates the two girls. A referee can then be seen escorting McCullough off the field.
The victim didn’t suffer any apparent major injuries, just some knots to her head. Her mother told reporters that she still has to undergo some medical tests to insure none of her daughter’s brains got scrambled in the melee.…
LOUISVILLE, KY – Police say 10 to 11 students at Eastern High School consumed pot-laced brownies a fellow student had brought to school.
Now some parents are outraged that their angels, who were allegedly unaware the brownies contained marijuana, have been suspended along with the student who brought the tainted treats.
“I am furious,” said Crystal Fuller, a parent whose child is one of the suspended students. “I feel like, how do you penalize a victim? Why weren’t the police called? Why wasn’t an ambulance called? Why wasn’t anything done except for, ‘we’re going to suspend your kid?'”
The principal said there was no need for an ambulance and that an on-site retired nurse helped the stoned students. The school district confirmed that 10 students have been suspended for eating the brownies, although there is no word if all the students who ate the brownies were aware of the extra ingredient beforehand.
The student who made the brownies is one of the students suspended but could also face criminal drug charges as a juvenile.…
Snohomish, WA – Snohomish County Prosecutor Cindy Larsen wants to try the 15-year-old girl accused of stabbing two school mates last year as an adult, and it’s no wonder why. The girl has developed a particularly wicked “bucket list” while behind bars – a bucket list that includes attacking the victims again and torturing toddlers. It’s undoubtedly a ploy for attention but, hey, I’m game.
The attack occurred Oct. 24th in a girl’s restroom at Snohomish High School. The victims, freshmen April Lutz and Bekah Staudacher, were seen on surveillance video entering together. Soon after, the hooded attacker enters behind them. Commotion is heard and a crowd gathers outside. Eventually, paramedics cart out a victim on a stretcher. Staudacher received a large slice to the arm and was stabbed in the back, while Lutz received 13 stab wounds described as “life-threatening.” Both have recovered.
But the situation with the attacker started long before this incident. In April of last year, a couple of kids told school officials that the girl had become obsessed with them and threatened to kill one of their boyfriends.…
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A 13-year-old boy is home recovering after police say two teens poured gasoline on him and then set him on fire.
According to the reports, the teen was followed home by two older teens while walking from East High School. As he was trying to get into his front door, the two teens allegedly rushed up and grabbed him. One pinned his arms behind his back while another poured gas on the boy and flicked a lighter saying, “This is what you deserve.”
This produced a large fireball that burned the teen’s face and hair. He was able to put out the flames with his shirt while his attackers ran away. The eighth-grader then called 911 before calling his father.
He was taken by ambulance to Children’s Mercy Hospital where he was kept for several hours as they treated first-degree burns to his face and head. Police said they were concerned about possible damage to his eyes and lungs while also saying they are investigating this as a possible hate crime.…
CHARDON, OHIO – More information coming out of the Ohio school shooting, but it’s tough picking through it all to determine what is factual and what is hearsay — some bloggers even posting the wrong picture of the shooter.
But as of today, two students at Chardon High School have died after 17-year-old TJ Lane walked into the cafeteria yesterday morning and calmly fired on a group of kids sitting at a table, hitting five of them.
Three of the injured were flown to MetroHealth Medical Center where one, 16-year-old Daniel Parmertor, died shortly after arriving there. A second teen, 17-year-old Russell King, Jr., has died after being taken off life support yesterday evening. Demetrius Hewlin, whose age was not given, died this morning.
A 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old female were taken to Hillcrest Hospital where the boy was in serious condition and the girl was stable.
After firing on the group, Lane was chased out of the building by a teacher, Frank Hall, and then later apprehended by police with K-9 units about a mile away from the school and near his parked car.…
CHARDON, OHIO – A shooting at an Ohio high school this morning has left one student dead, four others injured, and one in custody.
Official details are still sketchy, but initial reports were that a gunman had opened fire at Chardon High School this morning, wounding five students.
Three of those students were transported by Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center, where one later died. A 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old female were taken to Hillcrest Hospital where the boy was in serious condition and the girl was stable.
The suspected gunman has been identified as another student at the school. He turned himself in to bystanders outside of the school after reportedly being chased out of the building by a teacher.
Chardon Police Chief Tim McKenna will update the public at a 4 p.m. news conference.
