MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS, PA – The parents of a 14-year-old who committed suicide last week say it was the end result of the bullying he suffered at school and now they want to make other parents aware of it. Last Friday, Brandon Bitner left his home in the middle of the night, walked six miles and stepped into the path of a tractor trailer. Britner left a note to his parents asking that they find the strength not to let this happen to anyone else. His mother says Brandon suffered verbal abuse at school where he targeted for his emo lifestyle and soft-spoken manner. She blames the school for not stopping it. The school administrators state they have never received any reports of Britner being bullied and where never alerted to an issue. “There were no incidents reported to us, nor seen by teachers, nor reported by students to any of us. So that part of it catches me by surprise,” Midd-West superintendent Dr. Wesley Knapp said. Britner’s mother admits that although Britner had come to her about being bullied, they never reported it for fear of it making the situation worse.…

Las Vegas, NV – For reasons that are still unknown, 58-year-old Michael Roberts shot and killed himself in the courtyard of Western High School Monday afternoon. At around 2:30 p.m. 911 was called after a single gunshot was heard on campus. Police would find Roberts, a science teacher at the school, lying dead in the courtyard from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. School was not in session due to an administrative holiday, but officials said staff members and some student-athletes were on campus at the time. One teacher who worked with Roberts spoke to him hours before the shooting and said everything seemed fine. Rumors of Roberts being sick have also began circulating but no one knows for sure why Roberts decided to end his life in this manner or why he chose to do it at the school. Grief counselors have been on campus since the students returned to school on Wednesday and the district’s crisis response team has been there since the shooting. He may have been a nice guy and all that, and I am not against anyone deciding to end their own life if they are simply trying to escape justice of some sort, but to do this at the school just seems like a real asshole move — even if he was having work related issues.…

Woodbine, GA — Accused child molester Amy Mykkanen found the perfect solution to a lifetime of legal headaches – suicide. The 25-year-old woman was found hanging from an air conditioning unit in her cell early Friday morning. Jailed since mid-July, Mykkanen had been accused of having sexual contact with seven boys under the age of 16. Busy, busy! She was facing eight counts of child molestation, one count of statutory rape and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes. One of the victims was a 13-year-old family friend, and it was a complaint from the boy’s parents and grandparents that started the ball rolling. At the time of her arrest, when police executed search warrants at her home, laptop computers with cameras and digital cameras were seized as evidence. “She did leave a note saying she had planned this,” Camden County Sheriff Tommy Gregory said. “She didn’t let anybody know, and basically leaving a note to her parents and officers and inmates saying she was sorry for hurting them.” It is also being reported that Mykkanen’s husband, who is currently deployed at sea, filed for divorce soon after her arrest.…

NEWBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Some kids trick-or-treating a few days early at the Conewago Valley Mobile Home Park got the fright of their lives when they went to collect candy from a 68-year-old resident.
What they found was his corpse lying outside his front door, a victim of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. “They saw him lying there, but they though it was a Halloween decoration until they got close and they realized it was real,” said Newberry Township resident Donna Jones.
Police don’t know when the man killed himself or how long he had been lying on his front step, but think that anyone who had seen the body may have thought it was simply a Halloween prop. The man was a sick man who kept to himself.
“He was very ill … and he didn’t want to go to a hospital or a (nursing) home,” Police Chief John Snyder said. “I just wish he’d have done it somewhere else.” The man’s trailer was in neat and tidy condition, a factor Snyder feels contributed to why the man chose to shoot himself outside of his trailer.…

NEWPORT, Mich. – When Robert Manley arrived home from work early Wednesday morning, his 15-year-old daughter was missing and the front door looked as if it had been forced open. 911 was called and an Amber Alert issued. Within hours Taylor E. Manley’s body, along with 38-year-old Raymond R. Bush, were found dead in his truck parked almost 200 miles away in a small Newport cemetery. She had been shot multiple times and he had shot himself. No definitive motive at this point, but it probably had a lot to do with the fact that Manley was scheduled to testify against Bush in a sexual assault case that morning. Bush was a friend of Taylor’s mother and he and the teen had been involved in a sexual relationship. When her mother found out about it, police were called and Bush was eventually charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, a felony, and was free after posting $50,000 bond. HAYWARD, Calif. — I got another school story I was gonna post, but ran across this odd story out of California concerning twins that caught my interest. Police are trying to determine if a 15-year-old killed his twin brother, or if he is part of a botched suicide pact. On Tuesday, a neighbor called police reporting seeing a teen breaking into a neighbor’s home. When police arrived, they were confronted by the teen who had self-inflicted stab wounds and turned on all the gas jets in the home. Houston, TX — A former soccer coach accused of sexually abusing one of his players was found dead in his car the other day. Authorities found the body of 38-year-old Ian Crowe in his vehicle where he had committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. Crowe had been accused of multiple sexual assaults against a 15-year-old girl he was supposed to be privately coaching. I guess her parents should have been more specific about what he was to teach her as it turns out that out of all their meetings, only one was about soccer. The rest were about kissing, groping and oral sex. The wife found out somehow and contacted the girl’s family, letting them know what her husband had been up to. GASTONIA, N.C. – Early Sunday morning, a police officer discovered the bodies of a couple inside their SUV after noticing their vehicle in the Gastonia Police Department parking lot with their brake lights on. The pair were identified as 45-year-old Randy Newman and his wife, Laura, 47, both dead in an apparent murder-suicide. Currently reports are stating that Randy shot and killed Laura and then committed suicide. The couple do not have a history of domestic issues, but friends say that Randy was being treated for depression. Gastonia Police Sgt. Jimmy Arndt said, “We’ve determined Mr. Newman had been suffering from depression and trying to work through some of the issues from some time and that depression had been worsening over time.” Laura Newman worked at Ashbrook High School as a teacher’s assistant and cheerleading coach for the last five years and counselors will be at the school today for students as well as staff. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – People eating their lunch at Hooters and Fat Tuesday on Fort Lauderdale’s beach were witnesses to the horrific end of a domestic dispute as a man opened fire on his sister before turning the gun on himself. Police say that Juan Alicea Orozco, 23, and his sister, 25-year-old Jesnishia Alicea Orozco, were visiting their mother at the Beach Place cigar stand where she works at the main entrance of the beachfront shopping and entertainment complex. The siblings were arguing about money and living arrangements stemming from Orozco’s landlord having begun proceedings to have him evicted from a rental property. Their mother told police that after she turned away from the pair she heard multiple shots. FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Monica McCarrick, 28, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murder, accused of using a sword to stab her twin 3-year-old daughters to death, nearly decapitating one of them, before attempting using the sword to slash her own throat and wrists and setting a closet on fire. Firefighters found McCarrick and the bodies of her two dead children Tuesday evening after responding to reports of a fire in McCarrick’s apartment. She allegedly placed Lily and Tori’s bodies against the front door to prevent anyone from gaining access inside. She was taken to John Muir Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. HOUSTON – Last Thursday, 13-year-old Asher Brown told his step-father that he was gay. Later that evening he would be found dead on the floor of a closet after having shot himself in the head. Asher left no note, so his reasons for ending his life at this point are only speculation, but according to his parents, this was the eighth grader’s final solution to years of torment and harassment at the hands of fellow classmates at Hamilton Middle School. They say the straight A student was bullied relentlessly for the last couple years, ridiculed over his appearance, his religion and his sexual orientation. His parents, David and Amy Truong, say they repeatedly tried talking to school officials about the way Asher and his brother were being treated at school, even giving them names of students responsible. New York — Two Rutgers College freshman have been charged with two counts of invasion of privacy after setting up a web cam to film their roommate having sex and broadcasting it live over the Internet. That roommate has reportedly killed himself. On September 19, Dharun Ravi, 18, posted on Twitter that his roommate had “asked for the room until midnight” and that he turned on the webcam after seeing him “making out with a guy.” He then did the same thing with the same roommate a couple days later, daring his Twitter followers to iChat with him later that evening because “it’s happening again.” That Thursday the roommate, who had been secretly filmed, jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge. I say “supposedly” because reports are that a body has not been found at this point, but his car was found nearby with his cell phone and computer inside. Ravi and 18-year-old Molly Wei are now facing a possible five year prison stint if convicted of the charges. New Jersey — Shortly after receiving a call about a man jumping from the George Washington Bridge last Friday, a man’s body was pulled from the Hudson River. He has now been identified as 39-year-old Joseph Cerniglia and his death ruled a suicide. Some of you may remember this guy if you watch Gordan Ramsey’s television show, KITCHEN NIGHTMARES (Season 1, Episode 9 – Aired: 11/28/2007). Cerniglia was featured on that show back in 2007 after seeking the show’s help with Campania, the failing restaurant he had purchased. As usual Ramsey was able to turn the restaraunt around after making the somewhat prophetic statement that if he didn’t change things, Cerniglia’s new restaraunt would go “swimming down the Hudson.” One thing to note about that episode was his family’s constant concerns over his health and stress levels, Cerniglia telling Ramsey that the purchase of the failing business had put him $80,000 in the hole. Reports after the show aired painted Campania’s revamping a success, with the meatballs served there being voted some of the best in the area and Cerniglia telling the Star-Ledger the phone didn’t stop ringing “for a long, long time,” after his appearance on the show aired, the Star-Ledger adding it was “15 minutes of fame that keep on giving.” I’m curious how business has been lately, or if the restaraunt had anything at all to do with his decision to leave his wife and sons behind.…

Greensburg, Ind. — Last Thursday, 15-year-old Billy (William) Lucas, was found hanging inside his family’s barn. His suicide is being attributed to reports of bullying even though the suicide note he left did not refer to being bullied or blame anyone in particular for his decision. Lucas was a student at Greensburg Community High School and reportedly a constant source of bullying since the fourth grade. In particular, remarks made about him being a “fag” and questioning his sexual orientation. Principal Phil Chapple doesn’t deny that students are bullied in the high school, no more than any others, but added he was never made aware of the situation regarding Lucas. If you read the comments in the news articles, as well as the messages left over at the Facebook Page created in his honor, everyone else seemed to be aware of it. Some are aggravated that it doesn’t look like any charges will be filed against any of the people who bullied Lucas over the years. No doubt the bullying probably didn’t help his mental state, but it would be kind of tough to prove it was the direct cause.…

Chicago - A man walking his dog near Nichols Middle School around 5 a.m. found a decapitated body lying in a crumpled heap between a tree and the fence to some tennis courts. The body was of a shirtless man whose legs were folded behind him. A shopping bag was near the body and the man described smelling gunpowder. Neighbors heard an explosion at around 4 a.m. but were not aware of its origins. Police investigated but were not able to find the cause of the noise. After the discovery of the dead man, police called in the bomb squad after another explosive device was located near the body. They detonated it at around 9:30 a.m. The school canceled classes due to what it called “an unforeseen police emergency.” Some people are reporting that this was an apparent suicide, but I haven’t seen anyone stating that officially aside from a neighbor telling NBC Chicago that’s what the police told him it was.…

ENUMCLAW, Wash. – After leaving the Yella Beak Saloon where he and some friends had just celebrated his birthday, a young man hopped on his bike and began pedaling towards a nearby house to pick up his truck. At the same time, a 24-year-old man who had been at the same bar was driving with a passenger down the same road and accidentally struck the man on his bike, killing him. When the driver got out of his vehicle and realized he had just killed the man whose birthday party he just attended, he became so distraught that he got a gun out of his truck and killed himself alongside the road. Sgt. John Urquhart stated he believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Maysville, N.C. – Shortly after changing her Facebook relationship status to “engaged” a woman was shot to death by her roommate. Karen Ann Rooney, 63 and Peter Terrance Moonan, 62 were not married but had been in a 16 year relationship and purchased their home together in 2002. The couple broke up earlier this year and since that time, Rooney had met another man, William Jenkins, and the pair had gotten engaged. Police feel that when Rooney changed her relationship status on Facebook to reflect that fact, Moonan flipped. He used a .357 handgun to shoot her twice before turning the gun on himself. The pair were found by a neighbor on Saturday. While I joined in on the Facebook angle with the title of this article, the truth is that it really had nothing to do with this. It’s not like Moonan didn’t know she had met a man and gotten engaged. HENDERSON, Nev. – It’s official. The May 9th death of pro golfer, Erica Blasberg, has been ruled a suicide. The official cause of death is asphyxiation caused by Blasberg secured a plastic bag over her head after ingesting a lethal amount of prescription medication. Her body was discovered in her home by her doctor, Thomas Hess, after he stopped by to check on her. Hess has now been charged with misdemeanor obstruction of justice because detectives say that after finding the body, he removed a suicide note and prescription pills from the scene. Why would he do that you may be wondering? Well it may have something to do with the coroner’s finding that Blasberg had a combination of butalbital, temazepam, alprazolam, codeine, hydrocodone, and tramadol in her body — medications prescribed by Hess. Belgium – Just a few hours after performing in front of a sold-out crowd at Belgium’s Pukkelpop festival, the lead singer for the pop band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool climbed to the top of a tower and then jumped to his death. Reports state that 22-year-old Charles Haddon was down over an incident that happened at the end of his band’s performance on Friday. A fellow member of the three-man band stage dived and injured a woman so badly she had to be taken to the hospital via ambulance. Hours later Haddon climbed to the top of a 60ft satellite mast in a backstage parking lot and jumped, dying instantly. The group had just released their third single and their debut album, ‘Christ Died For Our Synths’ (awesome title, btw) is to be out in October. This is the second death at the festival, the first being the death of The Call’s frontman, Michael Been. The 60-year-old died of a heart attack while working as a sound man for his son’s band, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.…

Orlando, Florida – Police say that after 24-year-old Ryan Ray Scurlock shot his girlfriend to death he went to a local shooting range, rented a gun and after firing a few rounds he fatally shot himself. Police say that before Scurlock entered the Gallery Gun Range on Saturday, he sent some disturbing text messages to friends stating that he had just become a murderer and had killed his girlfriend, 21-year-old Jennifer Lynn Roqueta. Scurlock and Roqueta had recently broken up but friends say they had recently began dating again. During their investigation into Scurlock’s suicide, police would perform a well-being check and find Roquetta, along with one of her dogs, dead inside her apartment. “She was a sweet girl. She didn’t deserve what happened to her,” said Roquetta’s coworker John Adams. ”(Scurlock) was always kind of weird, but I never thought something like this was going to happen,” Adams said.
