Canton, GA — Just days after pleading guilty to the brutal murder of 7-year-old Jorelys Rivera, 20-year-old Ryan Brunn was found dead in his jail cell.
“Ryan Brunn was found unresponsive in his cell at 4:15 p.m.,” said Kristin Stancil, a spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Corrections. “He was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 5:37 p.m. of an apparent suicide.”
Stancil would not say how Brunn died or whether he was under a suicide watch at the time of his death, but 11Alive is reporting that a source close to the investigation has revealed that Brunn committed suicide by hanging himself in his cell.
Jorelys’ father, Ricardo Galarza, told CNN en Espanol that learning of Brunn’s death partly made him “feel good but, on the other hand, it doesn’t because my daughter will never be with me again.”
He went on to say that he felt that a lifetime of Brunn being watched after, “eating three times a day (and) sleeping with air conditioning” while in prison was not enough.…Continue Reading
Staten Island, NY – I’m sure a lot of you have read about 15-year-old Amanda Cummings by now. For those of you who haven’t, two days after Christmas, she purposely stepped in front of a city bus while carrying a four page suicide note.
She would later die at the hospital from blunt force trauma and skull fractures and her family is blaming bullying for her death. The family claims she was bullied throughout school, even in the days before her decision to end her life. Her uncle has stated he wants justice and will push this as far as he can, in an effort to ensure those who pushed her over the edge are held accountable.
“I’m not going to tolerate this,” he said. “I’m gonna go full force. Kids can’t do this to each other.”
Her mother echoed the same sentiments stating, “This entire tragedy is far, far from over,” she wrote. “I am no where done with this.”
Her sister, Dawn, recently wrote, in part, “I AM BEGGING YOU KIDS, ANYONE WITH ANY CONCRETE PROOF OF BULLYING TOWARD MY SISTER, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.…Continue Reading
Police were dispatched to the Lincoln Vineyard apartment complex after a call was made to 911 at around 11:30 a.m. Christmas day in which no one would respond to dispatchers.
When police and firefighters arrived at the apartment the call originated from, located at the back of the complex, they would find a massacre had taken place.
Inside the living room and kitchen area of the apartment police would find seven people, four women and three men aged 15 to 60, dead beside open gifts near a Christmas tree. Some were still sitting on furniture while others were on the floor.
“We think he was just inside there celebrating Christmas with the rest of them and decided for whatever reason that’s how he’s going to end things,” Grapevine police spokesman Sgt. Robert Eberling told The Associated Press.
The identities of the victims have not been released yet, but all were related either by blood or marriage, according to Grapevine Police Lt.…Continue Reading
LETHBRIDGE, Canada – Here’s a story out of Canada proving to our readers that jealous ex-boyfriends with guns who go on a murder spree are not specific to the good ol’ US of A.
Police say early Thursday morning, 21-year-old Derek Jensen was out looking for his ex-girlfriend, 21-year-old Tabitha Stepple, after Jensen went “berserk” when he saw her with friends at a bar Wednesday night.
Stepple was at the bar celebrating Tanner Craswell’s 22nd birthday with her friend 21-year-old Shayna Conway and Craswell’s best friend, 20-year-old Mitchell MacLean. The group left after Jensen confronted them, pushing Stepple out of her chair and yelling at her like a giant douche. He then tried calling her over and over again, leaving an ominous message that stated “This night’s not going to end well for you. I hope you know that.”
Jensen would self-fulfill his prophecy later that night as Conway and Stepple drove to Calgary airport to drop off Craswell and MacLean so they could catch a flight back home for Christmas.…Continue Reading
Las Vegas, NV - Grief counselors were at a Las Vegas elementary school last Wednesday after one of their schoolmates was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Last Tuesday afternoon, police responded to a home on a call of a boy who had been shot. Inside the home they would find 10-year-old Kameron Asgari dead from what police are now saying was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
There have been little in way of details regarding the shooting or the events that lead up to Asgari deciding to end his life. The only info I could find was that he was a fifth-grader at Helen Jydstrup Elementary School where friends say he was “smart, intelligent, and he had lots of friends.”
No word on bullying, disciplinary issues, or possible abuse at this point but the really odd thing about this story is that Asgari wasn’t the only kid in Vegas to shoot themselves that day.
Nine hours after Asgari killed himself, a 13-year-old girl tried to do the same thing but survived the shooting.…Continue Reading
Emington, Ill – Residents of a small farming community 80 miles southwest of Chicago are still dealing with the horrifying events that unfolded in their neighborhood Friday, when a woman shot her boyfriend and three children to death before turning the gun on herself.
Shortly after kids had arrived home from school to start their Christmas break, people reported hearing a series of gunshots coming from the home of 30-year-old Sara McMeen.
One of McMeen’s neighbors told the press that after hearing the gunfire she ran out of her home and saw McMeen in her backyard standing over her daughter, 10-month-old Maggie Warren. The baby was wrapped in a blanket and lying on the ground as if she had been dropped. The neighbor, whose backyard butted up against McMeen’s backyard, asked if everything was all right.
“No, everything is not all right,” McMeen reportedly told the neighbor before bending over at the waist and shooting her baby at point-blank range. Horrified, the neighbor ran for help only to find McMeen lying beside her infant when she returned, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.…Continue Reading
San Antonio, TX – A little late getting this one posted as my site wants to be an ass today, but the two kids who were shot by their mother during a standoff at a Texas welfare office are still alive today.
As most of you heard by now, 38-year-old Rachelle Grimmer entered the welfare office Monday afternoon with her two children, 12-year-old Ramie Grimmer and her 10-year-old brother, Timothy Grimmer. She was really pissed off about a whole lot of stuff, including the fact that she had been denied food stamps.
A supervisor took her into a private room so that they could discuss her case, and that’s when Grimmer pulled out a handgun and started an hours long standoff with police. The supervisor convinced Grimmer to let the other employees go, which she did, and stayed with Grimmer. Police tried to negotiate with Grimmer over the phone, but she kept hanging up, eventually letting the supervisor go unharmed at around 7:45 p.m.
Grimmer stayed inside the office with her children for a few more hours until around 11:45 p.m.…Continue Reading
Readsboro, VT - Investigators say Timothy Bolognani, 49, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound moments after discovering that he had accidentally shot and killed his friend and hunting partner, Benjamin Birch, 39.
Bolognani, Birch, and a third friend, Mark Colford, had been hunting Saturday when the incident occurred. Police investigators said that the three men were tracking a deer Birch had shot. While separated, Bolognani fired his rifle reportedly causing Birch to cry out.
State police investigators said that Bolognani and Colford found Birch lying on the ground where he died. Investigators added that Bolognani then used his rifle to immediately take his own life.
“These guys were best friends and professional hunters,” Birch’s mother told news reporters.
The deceased hunters were taken to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy. According to police, no foul play is suspected.
I can certainly imagine the grief that he felt… but people need to count to ten or breathe or something. Suicide-on-impulse is just a really bad idea.…Continue Reading
Brazier apparently left a suicide note at the front desk of the Radisson Hotel, where the couple had spent their first night as newlyweds, telling his wife where his body could be found.
According to police, Brazier then took a taxi to a building bordering the Bronx River, about 15 minutes away, and either jumped from the building or from the promenade behind it. His body was found near Roberto Clemente State Park, slightly upstream from where he’s believed to have jumped, later that same day.
“He said [in the note] he couldn’t take it anymore, and to take care of the kids,” said Shawna Weeks, Brazier’s sister. “He left his ring in the envelope.”
Family members say Brazier had been suffering from depression in the weeks leading up to the wedding. And though he sincerely loved his bride-to-be, 26-year-old Trudian Hay, he apparently didn’t want to tie the knot.…Continue Reading
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, 38-year-old Melissa Lewis walked onto eastbound I-94 at about 6:40 Thursday morning and stood there for a moment before lying down. Within minutes, she was roadkill.
Dispatchers with the state patrol received several 911 calls from commuters concerned about the woman just moments before she was hit. And though a couple of troopers and an ambulance had been dispatched, it was apparently too late.
Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Chris Edstrom said the woman’s intention was clear.
“Well, the people that hit her, the dispatchers that watched it…I mean, there’s a lot of additional victims in this and it’s too bad that it happened and it’s too bad that somebody got to that point.”
A couple of the drivers who hit the woman apparently left the scene, but it is quite possible that they had no idea they had actually ran over a human being on their morning commute. …Continue Reading
CHADBOURN, N.C. — Two days after we reported on a 10-year-old girl in Illinois hanging herself in her bedroom because of bullying, we are now reporting on a 10-year-old girl in North Carolina who hanged herself as well.
The mother of 10-year-old Jasmine McClain found her dead in her bedroom Monday night where she had hanged herself from a metal rack. Chadbourn Police Chief Steven Shaw said it was an obvious suicide and was about to close the case when he started reading posts on Facebook about Jasmine.
“Children started coming forward and making accusations that she was bullied in school,” Shaw said. Immediately, news reports were stating that the little girl had killed herself because of bullying. However, after checking into these comments, police say they have not found any solid evidence that this was the case.
“People are struggling to make it a bullying story,” Shaw said. “We haven’t made it that, yet. What we’ve found is the people who have posted the comments are telling us that this is what a friend said. …Continue Reading
Plainville, Connecticut – According to officials, a 17-year-old Plainville High School student hanged himself on school grounds Tuesday morning.
Police say just before 6:30 a.m., someone walking their dog on the school’s track found the teen hanging under the bleachers. The Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner confirmed the boy’s death was a suicide after conducting an autopsy that afternoon.
No official word on what drove this young man to hang himself but someone claiming to be a relative of the boy, and I do stress claiming, said that “Christopher” was picked on constantly for being odd and his girlfriend had just recently broken up with him.
The school superintendent told reporters that at this point, with the information they have now, bullying didn’t have anything to do with this. But whatever the reason — depression, heartbreak, bullying, all of the above — it’s always a shame when young people go this route.…Continue Reading
Illinois – Last Friday, 10-year-old Ashlynn Conner was found dead inside her closet where she had hanged herself with a scarf. Her family says bullying is to blame.
Her mother told reporters that Ashlynn, an honor roll student at Ridgefarm Elementary, had been bullied relentlessly at school and by kids in the neighborhood. Nothing physical, just emotional bullying consisting mostly of name calling.
“Ashlynn’s ugly, look Ashlynn’s ugly. She’s fat. They’d call her a slut,” her mother said.
Last Thursday Ashlynn told her mother she’d been picked on all day at school by three girls and asked if she could be home-schooled. Her mother told her ‘no’ and that she would speak to the principal about it on Monday. The next day, while most kids were enjoying a day off for Veteran’s Day, Ashlynn went inside her hanging in her closet.
Her older sister found her after the family realized they had not seen or heard from Ashlynn since her mother had overheard her talking with a classmate on the phone a half-hour before, detailing the girls at school picking on her and the fact that her mother would not let her be home-schooled.…Continue Reading
Instead of going to school on Tuesday, Ashley Billasano took to her Twitter page and made a series of tweets to her 500 followers detailing her feelings of despair, being a victim of sexual abuse and injustice. Her last tweet was made at 2:97 p.m. and read: “Take two. I hope I get this right.”
Police are not releasing too many details on exactly how she committed suicide for fear of copycats, but they say Billasano suffocated herself using a method she learned on the Internet.
The majority of her tweets that day detailed claims of sexual abuse and being forced into prostitution at a young age. Some of this is backed up by her mother and the fact that her stepfather, Allan Leskinen, is currently finishing up an 11-year-stint in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing Billasano when she was only 7-years-old.
Years later, at 14-years-old, she claims she was sexually abused by another family member as well as other adults.…Continue Reading
MARIETTA, GA - Police say a couple popular in the local mixed martial arts fighting scene were found dead in their home in an apparent murder-suicide.
The father of Mary Ellen Cano, the 32-year-old voted “Female Fighter of the Year” by Georgia Fighters Magazine, walked into the police station to report he’d not heard from his daughter in a couple of days and needed a welfare check conducted.
When police arrived at the home Cano shared with her boyfriend, 28-year-old Wilbur Karl South, they found the couple dead from gunshot wounds. Police told reporters that South shot and killed Cano, then turned the gun on himself after an ongoing domestic dispute.
David Oblas, co-publisher of Georgia Fighters magazine, said the couple had been dating off and on for the last two years. He said they were having problems no different than any other couple and that he was “pretty shocked” when he learned of their deaths.
He described Cano as always smiling and well respected for a girl who punched other girls in the face.…Continue Reading
Terry Thompson, 62, operated the Muskingum County Animal Farm, a 40-acre farm that housed about 50 big-game animals, including Bengal tigers, lions, cheetahs, wolves, giraffes, camels and grizzly bears. Officials have been on the property many times in the past investigating complaints of animals running loose or being abused.
“We’ve handled numerous complaints here, we’ve done numerous inspections here. So this has been a huge problem for us for a number of years,” said Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz.
But the animal farm, and Thompson, will no longer be a problem for anyone ever again after Thompson purposely released the animals and then killed himself on Tuesday. No official reason on why he did this, but he’d just gotten out of prison last month after serving a year on weapons charges and his wife left him. That would explain the suicide.…Continue Reading
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Stories regarding someone killing their family before killing themselves often have people remarking that they wish the person would’ve done things in reverse order. That seems to have been the case for a man in California, who intentionally drove off a cliff after threatening to kill his wife and kids.
Police say a husband and wife got into a fight Sunday that had the woman leaving the home. When she returned the following morning, her husband was drunk and threatening to kill her, their kids and even his fellow employees. Being one of the smarter women we have reported on, she left the house again and used the phone at a nearby gas station to call police.
While on the phone with police, her husband drove by her slowly while yelling at her, telling the police who had showed up they’d better follow him into the canyon. Police began following the man as he drove down the highway at 70 mph, but pulled back at a safe speed after learning the driver had called police headquarters informing them he was planning on driving off a cliff.…Continue Reading
According to police, a friend of 43-year-old Michael Weisler called 911 Sunday afternoon to report Weisler had threatened to commit suicide and was on his way to the barracks. Just moments later, as troopers stood by, Weisler entered the parking lot, exited his vehicle and shouted, “I’m the one you’re looking for.” He then pulled out a handgun and shot himself dead before the officers could intervene. Case closed.
The alleged molestation of the girl, which police say occurred back in ’08, was reported to Vermont State Police on Friday. An investigation by state police and the Department of Children and Families ultimately led to Weisler’s arrest on Saturday. He posted $10,000 bail Sunday morning and was to appear in Vermont Superior Court sometime today.
Police are investigating the incident and trying to piece together Weisler’s final hours, Police Lt. Detective Brian Miller said.…Continue Reading
Gothenburg, NE – On September 17, a couple traveling to a wedding with the woman’s young son had an interruption in their plans when the man, Jason Eugene Melledy, 39, stopped the vehicle to beat the woman on the side of the road and then go kill himself. She would later die from her injuries.
Michelle Stella, 42, and her 8-year old son were with her boyfriend, Melledy, and had been traveling from the Denver area to a wedding in the Gothenburg area. Stella’s son told police that, around midnight, the couple got into a verbal argument. Melledy then stopped the car and pulled Stella out of the car and began beating her.
The boy told officers Melledy was hitting his mother in the face and head with his fists. During this, Stella was able to tell her son to run away. The boy ran to a nearby ditch and hid. He then flagged down officers and led them to his mother. She was found lying in the west bound lane of the highway with severe facial and head injuries.…Continue Reading
Carterville, IL – On the same day members of an Illinois community were mourning the loss of one of their teachers, another hanged herself in her own classroom.
A co-worker found 45-year-old Linda Elaine Walker in her kindergarten classroom late Monday afternoon where she had hanged herself. CPR was performed on Walker before emergency crews arrived but she would be pronounced dead at the hospital.
Walker, a teacher for 17 years, was found hanging in her classroom on the same day funeral services were held for another longtime Carterville kindergarten teacher, 72-year-old Lynn Byrnes, who died last week after complications from surgery.
“These things are so awful. Sometimes we don’t know the best thing to do. Fortunately, our kids, staff and community is a tight, resilient group,” Carterville school district Superintendent Robert Prusator said. “This is a day where everyone digs down and does a lot of work.”
As many as 30 counselors were available at area schools to help the community cope with the losses.…Continue Reading
