PHILADELPHIA, PA – Police say 48-year-old Amy Newman, a sixth-grade math teacher, left her school after a heated phone conversation then stabbed herself to death in a Holiday Inn hotel room.
Newman arrived at Francis Scott Key School yesterday morning, where she has worked for twenty years, but stormed out after a heated telephone conversation.
She then drove to a Holiday Inn a mile away, left her purse in her car and entered a first-floor restroom just feet away from a packed conference room. Minutes later someone attending the conference entered the bathroom and noticed blood pooling from underneath one of the stalls
Hotel staff were notified and would find Newman in the locked stall suffering from multiple stab wounds; a steak knife and a pair of scissors at her feet. She was rushed to the hospital suffering from several self-inflicted stab wounds to her neck, breast and arms, but was pronounced dead after undergoing surgery.
Police say they’ve recovered a suicide note at the school where grief counselors have been made available to students and staff.…
TOKYO – The elementary schoolgirls, aged 11 and 12, left their shoes side by side on the roof of an apartment building before jumping off in a joint suicide on Friday.
The girls were classmates and for reasons not known at this time, jumped from between the 7th and 8th floors of the nine story apartment building.
One of the girls died instantly when she hit the asphalt parking lot near the entrance to the building, while the other died at the hospital shortly afterwards.
Police said the 11-year-old lived with her family at the apartments, while her 12-year-old friend lived nearby. Students who knew the girls described them as leaders among their friends and showed no signs of being suicidal or worried about anything.
A school official told reporters both girls were at school on Friday and that he was unaware of any bullying incidents involving the girls.
The girls did leave a suicide note with their shoes, but police have declined to reveal its contents. “The note is a matter for the parents,” said a police spokesman.…
SAN TAN VALLEY, AZ – An 11-year-old boy upset over doing chores used a gun to kill himself with a gunshot to the head.
On Tuesday, Samuel Epps was at home with his father and three siblings when he became upset over completing some chores. “Samuel went into the home’s master bedroom and a short time later a single gunshot was heard by other family members.” Pinal County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tim Gaffney said.
Samuel’s father forced his way into the locked bedroom and found that his son had shot himself in the head. Samuel’s father called 911 and paramedics were on the scene withing minutes.
Although Samuel was still breathing and had a pulse, he would be pronounced dead two hours later after being airlifted to Maricopa County Medical Center.
Samuel’s father is a supervisor with the Arizona State University Police Department, but investigators say the gun Samuel used was an off-duty weapon.
Studies have shown that 90 percent of young children who commit suicide have some kind of mental health disorder, but detectives have not found any evidence that Samuel exhibited depression, mental illness or suicidal thoughts.…
NEW YORK – Police say a 51-year-old Tomas Rivera beheaded himself Monday morning by tying one end of a chain to a pole and the other end around his neck before getting in his 2005 Honda CRV and stepping on the gas.
Police say the incident happened at around 9:35 a.m. Monday morning on Longfellow Ave. near Randall Ave. Rivera’s car stopped after hitting a parked vehicle. Rivera died immediately.
While I’ll give this man points for style, I can’t give him any for originality. Back in 2009, a London cab driver did this same thing by tying a rope to a lamppost and the other end round his neck before getting in his cab and driving off.
A Chicago man in 2011 also did this following a domestic dispute with his ex-wife and a brief standoff with police. He tied a cable to a tree then tied the other end to his neck before hopping in his SUV and driving off.
Personally, if I was going to kill myself via decapitation, I’ll do what a Michigan man did in 2007.…
ORLANDO, FL – The family of Rebecca Sedwick, the 12-year-old girl who jumped to her death last year, has filed a lawsuit against one one of the girl’s alleged bullies, the School Board of Polk County, Cemex Construction Materials of Florida.
“I feel like I need to have some definitive answers and get some form of justice for Becca in order to start the whole healing process,” said Tricia Norman, Rebecca’s mother.
According to Norman’s attorney, David Henry, Rebecca’s family is seeking at least $15,000 from each of the defendants in order to “hold those accountable to account.”
For those of you who may have missed this story when it happened last year, Rebecca killed herself by jumping from a tower at an abandoned cement plant. There were reportedly various factors for her doing this, including ongoing harassment from two of her classmates, 14-year-old Guadalupe Shaw and 13-year-old Katelyn Roman.
After Rebecca started dating Guadalupe’s ex-boyfriend, she became the target of repeated physical and online attacks. Aside from the standard-issue name calling, she was also encouraged to kill herself.…
MEXICO CITY – Oscar Otero Aguilar died over the weekend after accidentally shooting himself in the head while posing with a gun for a Facebook picture.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, the 21-year-old was drinking with two friends when he put a gun to his head to take a picture for his Facebook account. His friends say that Aguilar accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting himself once in the head.
Police in the area arrived on the scene and found that Aguilar had a bullet wound to the forehead and was still alive. He wasn’t alive for long, as he was pronounced dead once paramedics got to the home — ensuring a Darwin Award nomination.
His body will be handed over to the family once an autopsy has been completed. I’m guessing officials want to make sure the friends’ story of Aguilar shooting himself jives with the forensic evidence, especially since one of his friends, 21-year-old Omar Campos Abner Vives, was arrested; while “El Paco” fled the scene.
This makes the second person we’ve reported on this year to die while posing for a selfie.…
Matthew Burdette killed himself on November 29. His family had noticed the once happy, popular teen had become withdrawn in the days leading up to his suicide, but say they never saw it coming.
Matthew left a note that stated he had no friends and that he could no longer handle school. Wanting answers, his family started asking questions – starting with school officials at University City High School.
They say school officials wouldn’t tell them anything about what may have happened at the school to have caused Matthew to suddenly hate school so bad that it would be part of his reasoning for ending his own life.
However, other students didn’t have such issues. They told Matthew’s family that their son was being relentlessly bullied over a video that was posted online that went viral.…
SAN DIEGO, CA — A 12-year-old boy at a Boy Scout camp on Fiesta Island used a handgun to shoot and kill himself Monday morning, police said.
The boy was part of a group of around 20 who arrived at the camp from Las Vegas and were scheduled to stay at the camp until July 5, said Lt. Mike Hastings. Included with the group was a scout master and the boy’s father.
At around 7:36 a.m. Monday morning, police were called to the camp after the boy was found inside his tent suffering from a single gunshot wound. Initially reported that he’d been shot in the head, it is now being reported he’d shot himself once in the chest.
The boy’s identity has not been officially release and police have not said how the boy got his hands on the gun that was found inside the boy’s tent.
The camp allows Scouts to earn a variety of merit badges, sail and build leadership skills. Firearms are not allowed at the camp and the program offers no activities in which a firearm would be used.…
CHESTERFIELD, VA – Police say 35-year-old Barry Jernigan fatally shot his wife and two kids before killing himself Sunday evening.
Police were first alerted to the family’s home after Barry’s boss called to report that Barry had left him a message “that sounded threatening and possibly suicidal in nature.” Officers heard gunshots as they approached the home, but it was already too late.
Barry’s wife, 30-year-old Renotta Jernigan, and stepdaughter, 9-year-old Alexis Kellas, had both collapsed in the front yard after being shot. Neighbors who’d heard the gunfire were providing first aid to the victims, but Renotta would die on the scene while Alexis would die later at the hospital.
Inside the home, police would find 2-year-old Seth Jernigan had been shot to death as he lay in his crib. As for Barry, he was also found in the home, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. “At this point, the investigation indicates that Barry Jernigan shot his son, stepdaughter and wife before turning the gun on himself,” police said in a statement.…
Verona, NY – Earl and Mary Myatt killed themselves in a joint suicide by stepping in front of a freight train moments after calling their son to apologize.
The couple, who were both 59-years-old, were dealing with Mary’s failing health after she suffered a brain aneurysm earlier this year. She’d already spent a month in intensive care and has underwent several surgeries. The most recent procedure was performed two weeks ago.
Earl had altered his work schedule so he could spend more time with his wife, who was in constant pain and left with the motor functions and abilities of a toddler.
Their son said Mary just wasn’t the same person she’d been before the aneurysm, often losing her train of thought and not understanding what was happening around her. His father had become depressed and missed his wife. “She was his world,” Brad Myatt said.
Brad said his father called him and put Mary Myatt on the phone. Brad said he couldn’t understand what his mother said, but Earl got on the phone and apologized for what was about to happen.…
Hollywood, CA – Andre Johnson, aka Christ Bearer, is recovering in the hospital after cutting off his penis and jumping from the second floor of a North Hollywood apartment.
Johnson is a member of the rap duo Northstar and part of the Wu Tang Clan family. He’s also affiliated with other groups in the Wu-Fam, including the West Coast Killa Beez and Rugged Monk of the Black Knights.
TMZ reports that other members of Northstar were present when Johnson cut off his penis without warning and then leaped from the balcony. They said when they got downstairs, Johnson was running around screaming like a banshee. They also said Johnson had not been taking hard drugs at the time of the incident.
Johnson is currently being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He’s alive, but if they cant reattach that sucker, I’m betting he’ll wish he wasn’t.
StPetersburg, FL – A desk clerk at an apartment complex thought the body of a 96-year-old woman found in the parking lot was an April Fool’s prank, so he tossed her body in a dumpster.
While taking a smoke break, 61-year-old Ronald Benjamin noticed the woman’s body lying in the parking lot. Thinking it was a mannequin placed there as an April Fool’s prank, Benjamin finished his cigarette and returned to his desk.
What he did not know was the body was not a prank. The body belonged to a 96-year-old woman who had been suffering from depression and had jumped to her death from the 16th floor.
A couple hours later, at around 6:30 a.m., another employee saw the woman’s body and told Benjamin about it. He told her not to worry, explaining to her that it was just a prank. A mannequin probably placed there by some drunks after the bars closed.
When a teen stopped by to deliver the paper, Benjamin asked him if would help dispose of the mannequin.…
WESTMINSTER, CO – Vince Nett, a 16-year-old sophomore at Standley Lake, attempted suicide in the school’s cafeteria by drinking a bottle of bleach and then setting himself on fire.
At around 7:30 a.m. Monday morning, Nett was in the school cafeteria when he drank a water bottle full of bleach before dousing himself with Coleman fuel and lighting himself up. “I could see the kid in the flames,” a student said. “He was standing and it was almost like he was dancing around in the fire.”
A quick-thinking cafeteria worker was able to retrieve a fire extinguisher that a custodian used to put out the flames. Nett was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, suffering from burns to 80 percent of his body. Aside from a teacher cutting their hand while getting the fire extinguisher out of its glass case, no one else was injured. Police say Nett never tried to harm other students.
No on knows why Nett decided to kill himself in such a fashion, but over the weekend he posted his plans online.…
Xuzhou, China — Apparently fed up with his girlfriend’s addiction to shoes and/or shopping, a 38-year-old man took a flying leap from the seventh floor balcony of the Golden Eagle International Shopping Center Saturday.
Tao Hsiao had apparently been shopping with his lady for five grueling hours that day, when she insisted that they check out just one more shoe store. I could seriously hear shrill whining as I wrote that sentence. Now I’m feeling a little stabby….
Witnesses reported hearing Hsiao saying the woman already had enough shoes — more than she could possibly wear in a lifetime. It was pointless to buy more. This apparently angered the footwear fanatic. Witnesses claim the woman started shouting, calling the man a skinflint and a Scrooge of sorts.
Hsiao was done. Done with her, done with her voice, and done friggin’ shopping. Security footage apparently shows him dropping the shopping bags in anger and jumping from the balcony.
Fortunately, no one broke his fall and the body was quickly removed from the scene.…
SOUTH JORDAN, UT – Police have revealed the two boys found shot to death in a Utah basement earlier this month died in a murder-suicide.
I was going to report on this when it first hit the news, but there weren’t a lot of details available aside from a lot of speculation and rumors. The story first made the news when a Taylor Wheeler, 12, and Dayton Gessell, 15, were discovered dead in the basement of a home on November 15.
Police said three other teens were in the home at the time of the shootings, including two brothers who lived there. One of these teens was upstairs with an adult when the shootings occurred. The other two ran from the home moments after the shootings occurred, and flagged down a passing police officer who lived nearby. Aside from the two dead kids, police would also find three guns in the basement.
That was pretty much it for details until now. Police are saying the autopsies have been completed and that Wheeler died of a single gunshot wound and Gessell died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.…
According to police, 51-year-old Carol Sanders filed for divorce from her husband, 53-year-old Mike Sanders, a little more than a month ago. The couple had a court hearing on Tuesday morning regarding an order of protection Carol had filed.
Hours later, Carol went to the family’s home with her 14-year-old daughter and her 49-year-old brother to gather some personal belongings. What they didn’t know was that Mike had parked his car a couple blocks away and was hiding behind the house in order to ambush them.
While Carol’s brother, 49-year-old Thomas Fitzpatrick, sat in his truck in the driveway she and her daughter went inside the home. That’s when Mike walked up to Thomas and shot him once. Mike shot him a second time after he fell out of the truck.
Mike then went inside the home and began shooting.…
Clarks Summit, PA – Investigators are still trying to figure out what motivated a 42-year-old nurse to kill a 79-year-old nursing-home patient before killing herself.
Police said that at around 5:30 p.m. Monday, employees at Abington Manor entered a patient’s room to find the patient, Howard Kinney, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. Also in the room was one of their nurses, Aimee Larkin, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Their deaths are now being ruled a murder-suicide, police stating that Larkin used a Sig Sauer P245 she got last Christmas to kill herself after she killed Kinney. You bastard.
What they are now trying to determine is why Larkin killed Kinney a little over an hour into her shift. There was no note left behind, and the relationship between Larkin and Kinney is unknown. Neither of them exhibited any unusual behavior before the incident.
Larkin has worked for the facility since 2011, while Kinney had been living there for the past two years while undergoing cancer treatment. According to Kinney’s nephew, he was in remission at the time of his death.…
SANTA ANA, CA — Two children were found dead inside a Southern California hotel room, and their mother has been charged after an unsuccessful suicide attempt.
According to reports, 47-year-old Marilyn Edge intentionally drove a car with Georgia license plates into an electrical box near a Costa Mesa Home Depot on Saturday morning.
When police arrived on the scene, they found Edge trying to strangle herself with a cord she had wrapped around her neck. A propane tank was also found inside the car, one that Edge said she was hoping would have exploded when she crashed the car.
As she was being taken to the hospital, Edge told authorities that her two children, 13-year-old Jaelen and 10-year-old Faith, could be found dead inside a Hampton Inn hotel room in nearby Santa Ana. Sadly, she wasn’t bullshitting.
Turns out Edge was angry over losing custody of her children to her ex-husband, whom she’d consistently prevented the children from visiting. Instead of turning over Jaelen and Faith as a judge had ordered, she fatally poisoned them.…
