Body Of Samantha Koenig Found In Alaska Lake; Suspect In Custody

Anchorage, Alaska – Police are pretty positive the body recovered from an Alaska lake yesterday belongs to 18-year-old Samantha Koenig, who went missing in February, and they have a suspect in custody.
Koenig disappeared while working as a barista at a coffee stand in Anchorage. When her boyfriend arrived to pick her up, she was not there and the Common Grounds stand had been locked up. A co-worker arrived the next morning to find the security alarm had not been set, money was missing and some of Koenig’s belongings were still in the stand.
A check of surveillance video would solve part of the mystery, as a man wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and baseball cap can be seen forcing Koenig to accompany him. Based on Koenig’s demeanor and the man’s actions, detectives stated there was no doubt she had been abducted.
After months of few leads or information being released to the press, police in Texas arrested 34-year-old Israel “Izzy” Keyes in connection to Koenig’s disappearance. Keyes is a self-employed contractor whose website states he moved to Alaska in 2007 to start his own business.…

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The 33-year-old woman accused of murdering her aunt’s boyfriend and her grandmother, beat the odds and was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
On Feb. 6 2009, Kern drove from her home in Georgia to her father’s home in Florida where she broke in and stole some items, including a .357 magnum. From there she would drive to her aunt’s house where she shot and killed her aunt’s boyfriend, William Chapman. Afterwards, she drove to her grandmother’s house where she stabbed and beat her grandmother to death with a tire iron.
After she was arrested, she told police she was Jesus and that her father was the devil — which also sounds oddly like an average phone conversation with Jaded. But this was no ploy at acting nuts. While in her 20s, Kern was diagnosed as bipolar and schizophrenic. Her lawyers say she never got the proper psychiatric treatment she needed.
Amy Kern was facing two first-degree murder charges but on Monday, after psychiatrists concluded that Kern was insane when she committed the killings, Judge Jeffrey Colbath accepted a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.…

Dallas, TX – This is one of those horrendous child abuse stories that keep me from typing up another child abuse story for a week or so. But if you are looking to hate anyone today, I give you Aaron and Elizabeth Ramsey, a Texas couple who admitted to starving a 10-year-old boy to death.
Police began looking into the disappearance of Jonathan Ramsey after the child’s grandfather contacted them last week, concerned that the boy had not been seen since January 2011 and the boy’s father was giving him different reasons why.
After being questioned by police, 34-year-old Aaron and 31-year-old Elizabeth would finally admit that the boy was dead and that Aaron had disposed of his body in an unknown location. But an affidavit has been released that details exactly how the boy was killed and the details are absolutely sickening.
According to Elizabeth Ramsey, who is the boy’s stepmother, they began starving the boy in March 2011 after the boy punched her in the stomach while pregnant with triplets, supposedly causing her to lose the babies.…

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Here’s a depressing one out of Utah where a woman has been charged with murdering her 18-year-old daughter while allegedly botching a suicide pact.
On March 21, 52-year-old Mary Ethyl Hansen drove to a neighbor’s home to tell them she had shot her daughter and asked if they could call 911.
When police arrived at Hansen’s home, they found her suffering from a non-fatal, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. In one of the bedrooms they found the dead body of Hansen’s daughter, Virginia Ray Hansen. She had been shot twice in the head.
Hansen told officials that she and her daughter suffered from mental illness and wanted to die. She had just failed to honor her end of the agreement they supposedly made.
A friend of the family said that Hansen was living on Social Security benefits, had fibromyalgia and was having financial difficulties. her daughter had few friends and took online courses instead of going to school. According to the friend, the Hansen and her daughter spent most of their time together inside the house and rarely went out.…

TACOMA, WA — A 27-year-old man has been accused of strangling his friend in his bedroom, then using a hand saw to partially dismember the corpse.
Police say that on March 18 or 19, John Jones Jr. strangled 54-year-old Wayne Williams in the bedroom of a home he shares with his mother, younger brother and an uncle. He then used a hand saw to start dismembering the corpse for future disposal.
Problem was that he was taking too long to dispose of the body, and Williams was quickly starting to smell pretty ripe.
On March 21, Jones’ mother noticed a foul smell coming from her son’s room and went in to investigate. It wasn’t hard to determine the source of the odor as Williams’ corpse was lying on a mattress without a head or legs. Jones had already removed them — the legs still wearing socks and shoes — and placed them in garbage bags.
When police interviewed John Jones, he stated he regularly hung out with Williams and they occasionally did drugs together, but he did not know how he ended up dead and in several pieces inside his bedroom.…

Phoenix, AZ - Jaded first reported on 35-year-old Angela Simpson back in 2009 when she was accused of torturing and murdering 46-year-old Terry Neely, a disabled man that had been missing for three days. Simpson would eventually make a callous jailhouse confession and has now pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
Neely had been last seen after he left an assisted-care facility in his wheelchair. During her jailhouse confessions, Simpson admitted she lured the man to her apartment.
“I killed Terry by deceptively luring him to apartment 201. Sitting him down and beating him with various objects until he was unconscious and then I slit his throat. How long did I beat him? 45 minutes…an hour…well I killed him and cut him up,” Simpson admitted.
Police say she did a lot more than just beat the man. Simpson also pulled out Neely’s teeth, stabbed him close to 50 times, drove a nail into his head, bashed him with a tire iron, and strangled him.
She told police that after Neely was dead, she partied a bit before chopping him up.…

Rolla, MO - Well, praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. A Phelps County jury has recommended the death penalty for Christopher Collings, who killed nine-year-old Rowan Ford in 2007. Yesterday at 6:17 p.m., the jury returned the verdict after forty-eight minutes of deliberation. Can I get an amen up in here?
Rowan Damia Ford was a sweet nine-year-old who made As and Bs in school even though sometimes her teachers had to make sure she ate. She helped with the Angel Food ministry at her church, and often arrived there hours early on Sunday, even though nobody else in her house went. She was happy on her bike, riding around town. She liked Disney princesses, spaghetti and the color purple. Rowan was 3’11″ tall and weighed 62 pounds, with long, wavy brown hair, big brown eyes, and freckles across her nose. Rowan did not need to die.
It won’t help us to go over the details of the brutal rape and the strangulation that ended Rowan’s life. It’s enough to know that she would likely have bled to death, but instead she got a cord around her neck and a horrific end in a dirty trailer. Rowan was found dumped into a hole that led to a cave, half naked, because Collings and Rowan’s own stepfather, David Spears, are the worst kind of pedophile baby-killers imaginable.…

WALLER, TX – The man accused of shooting his family to death told investigators he did so because he didn’t want them to be ashamed of the Columbine-style attack he planned to carry out. How thoughtful.
Trey Sesler, 22, was arrested on Tuesday after his mother, father and 26-year-old brother were all found shot to death in their family home. Police found the bodies after concerned relatives asked them to perform a welfare check.
Also found in the home was a message scrawled on the wall that read: “I love my mom, dad and brother. Why did I do this? God forgive me.” An arrest warrant was immediately issued for Sesler, who was found the next day at a friend’s house.
During his eight hour long interview with police, Wallace admitted to killing his family to save them from the embarrassment he would cause them after he carried out a Columbine-style mass-shooting at Waller High School where he used to attend. Sesler hinted that a another former Waller student was supposed to help.
Seslerm, who has YouTube posts of him firing one of his handful of weapons, confessed to committing several crimes in the area and had been working up the courage to kill humans by killing livestock.…

Rolla, MO – Remember Rowan Ford? If you don’t, maybe you haven’t been here in awhile. Or maybe it’s been so long since the nine-year-old’s murder in 2007 that you forgot. I’d forgive you if you blocked it out from trauma – Rowan’s murder was heinous.
Long story short, Chris Collings (who is 6’6″) and Rowan’s stepdad David Spears (who’s six feet wide, give or take) thought it would be really fun to pull a train on a nine year old girl. Then one or both of the men garroted Rowan with a cord and dumped her body down a cave entrance, where she laid half-clothed and decomposing for nearly a week. Nice, huh? NO.
Collings has admitted to abducting Rowan from her bed and taking her to a trailer, where he raped and killed the child. Spears has also admitted to raping and killing Rowan, which is a slick strategy if you like defense maneuvers for later appeals.
This week, a Phelps County jury finally convicted Christopher Collings of first-degree murder for killing Rowan during the commission of statutory rape.…
Teen Who Blamed Devil For The Murder Of Child And Cellmate Pleads Not Guilty

Las Vegas, NV –Last year I posted about Carl Guilford, the teenager who claimed the devil made him suffocate his 6-year-old cousin to death and then later stab his cellmate to death with a pencil. On Monday, he pleaded not guilty.
His attorney, Deputy Public Defender Norman Reed, intends to argue that his client is not guilty by reason of insanity even though his client was determined to be sane enough to stand trial.
For those of you who may have missed this story when we reported it last August, Guilford, then 18-years-old, was arrested and charged with suffocating his 6-year-old cousin. He said that after he killed the boy, the Devil told him “well done.”
After being arrested for that murder, he was placed in a cell at the Clark County Detention Center with Francesco Sanfilippo, a 39-year-old who had gotten busted possessing child pornography.
A few weeks later, Guilford attacked Sanfilippo as he sat at a table and began stabbing the man in the neck with a pencil. Guilford would be found sitting on the top bunk of his blood-splattered cell sporting a blank stare.…

RIVERTON, UT – Police have arrested an ex-con for the murder of 15-year-old Annie Kasprzak, allegedly after she refused to have sex with him.
Kasprzak was last seen seen on March 10 after walking out of her home. The family tried locating the teen that same night using GPS to track the location of Kasprzak’s cellphone, but the signal went dead before they could find her. Kasprzak’s bruised and bloody body would be pulled from the Jordan river on March 11.
On March 18, a witness came forward claiming to have seen 31-year-old Daniel Robert Lehi Ferry beat Kasprzak unconscious inside a home after she refused to have sex with him. The witness told them they watched Ferry place Kasprzak’s unconscious body in a vehicle. Police searched the home of the alleged assault and found blood consistent with blood found near a pedestrian bridge over the Jordan River where one of Kasprzak’s tennis shoes had been located.
Ferry was taken into custody and is currently being held on suspicion of first-degree felony murder and some outstanding warrants. But this is just par for the course.…

Ontario, Canada – Ever read a story and wish you hadn’t? Yeah, that’s me right now.
Back in 2009, we posted about Victoria ‘Tori’ Stafford. She was the 8-year-old girl from Ontario Canada who was abducted from her school, raped and then murdered. Tori Stafford’s body would be found the following July, buried in garbage bags. An autopsy would reveal she had been raped and beaten so badly that it caused lacerations to her liver and broken ribs. Her death was the result of repeated blows to the head with a claw hammer.
Eventually police would arrest and charge 21-year-old Terri-Lynne McClintic and her then boyfriend, 31-year-old Michael Rafferty with Tori’s murder. McClintic would plead guilty to first-degree murder charge and is serving life in prison. Her ex would plead not guilty to Tori’s abduction, rape and murder and his trial has been ongoing this week.
Yesterday McClintic took the stand against Rafferty and gave some of the most disturbing, day-wrecking testimony in regards to exactly what happened to Tori in her final moments.…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating an apparent murder suicide in which a man shot his estranged wife in a car before shooting himself, while the couple’s three young sons sat in the back seat.
On Tuesday, police found 24-year-old Alyshia Alexander and 25-year-old Jedidiah Alexander dead from gunshot wounds in what appeared to be a murder-suicide as they sat in the front seat of a car. In the back seat, covered in blood and covering their ears, they found the couple’s three young children.
Jedidiah and Alyshia got married in 2009, but the relationship was troubled and plagued with domestic abuse according to relatives and court records. The couple eventually separated, but Alyshia continued to let Jedediah see his boys. That Tuesday, she had driven to Jedidiah’s mother’s house to let the boys visit their father.
The three boys, 3-year-old Jedidiah, 2-year-old Jerimiah, and 1-year-old Jaedin, were not physically harmed and our currently staying with their maternal grandmother.
“They think that they’re just spending some time at Nana’s house. But eventually I’m going to have to deal with when they ask, ‘Where’s Mommy?’ I’m going to have to tell them,” Bridget Mitchell said.…

SACRAMENTO, CA - I wasn’t going to post about the murder of 13-year-old Jessica Funk-Haslam, especially since Nancy Grace and a couple of silly “psychics” are on the case and will have this solved in no time, but when I saw Google considers an opinionated Gather article a news source, I died a little inside and figured I would put up my own article.
I know a lot of you have already heard about the murder of 13-year-old Jessica Funk-Haslam, but for those of you who haven’t, her body was found in a dugout of a baseball field last Tuesday morning. She had been strangled, stabbed and beaten.
The last person known to have seen her alive was her mother, Tara Funk-Haslam, who says her daughter ran out of the house to meet someone after an argument. She says she chased after her but was unable to catch her.
Armchair detectives are already fingering her as the prime suspect, speculating as to why her mother waited until the next morning to call police, or why she didn’t try to contact her friends or her father, Allen Porter.…

RIVERTON, UT – Police and family members of 15-year-old Anne Kasprzak are asking for the public’s help in finding her killer. The teen’s body was found floating in a Utah river Sunday afternoon.
The teen was last seen alive leaving her mother’s house about 7:45 p.m. Saturday. Her family thought she just went out for a walk, but when she failed to answer her phone or respond to their text messages, they began to worry. She was reported as a runaway at 8:43 p.m. that same night.
Family members used GPS to track the location of the Kasprzak’s cellphone, noting that Anne first seemed to be moving slowly before her movement quickened, as if she were in a moving vehicle. When they were no longer able to track her, they assumed her cell phone battery had died and continued looking for her until the early morning hours..
The next morning, police would would find a bloody sneaker on a pedestrian bridge in the same area her family had been searching. Later that afternoon, Kasprzak’s body would be found floating in the Jordan River.…

Vancouver, WA — A man accused of putting a bullet in his roommate’s head, after “accidentally” shooting him in the back of the neck, is apparently trying to convince police that he did so as an act of mercy.
Police say 19-year-old Matthew Starr was out target shooting with roommates Joshua Schenk and Zachary Mattson late last month, when, according to Starr, Mattson slipped and almost fell. Starr said Mattson grabbed him, causing him to stumble and accidentally fire off a round. The bullet struck 25-year-old Schenk in the back of the neck.
Starr reportedly told police he knew medical help was more than five minutes away, so instead of calling 911, he just went ahead and put Schenk out of his misery with a direct shot to the head. “Like you would a deer that was injured or suffering,” Starr told police.
Since dead guys have no need for cash, Starr allegedly swiped $300 from Schenk’s wallet. Starr and Matson then dragged Schenk’s body off the trail and covered it with a tarp, where it was found by a hiker two days later.…

JACKSONVILLE, FL - A teacher fired from a Florida religious school Tuesday morning returned later that day and killed the head of the school before killing himself.
Police said that shortly after 28-year-old Shane Schumerth was fired from his job as a Spanish teacher at Episcopal High School, he returned to campus with an AK-47 hidden in a guitar case.
He made his way to the administrative office where he shot the head of school, 63-year-old Dale Regan, multiple times before turning the gun on himself.
No word yet on why Schumerth was fired, but some students say he had to be escorted off campus. A parent of one of Schumerth’s students said that he rarely focused on the Spanish he was supposed to be teaching the students this semester.
“Over the last several weeks, he seemed dark,” said Rob Cantrell, whose son was in Schumerth’s class. “He repeatedly talked about the Communist Manifesto and Marxism. Something wasn’t right.”
“Something wasn’t right” seems to be the general consensus when people describe Schumerth. Anyone who claims to know him describe a quite, shy man who was never comfortable in his own skin.…

Lakeland, Fl – I know this is from last month, but dammit I wrote it up yesterday unaware of that fact and it seemed a shame to just toss it in the trash.
Police say a woman in Florida purposely left her 1-year-old son in a bathtub to drown because she hated him. According to the reports, 32-year-old Neha Patel admitted that she hated her son, Isham Patel, since the day he was born and blamed him for her depression.
On Thursday, she was alone with the 1-year-old when he began crawling towards her. In an effort to curb Isham from ever approaching her, she told police she slapped him before putting him in his crib for a nap.
When he woke up, she placed him in a half full bathtub and then walked out of the room. When she returned 10 minutes later, she found Ishan submerged and unconscious. Instead of calling 911 or performing CPR, she loaded the boy in her Toyota Sienna and took a road trip.
First she drove to a supermarket parking lot, then back home, then to Ocala and then to Tampa International Airport.…

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A man has been accused of stabbing his neighbor to death after an argument over dog shit, making this the second story this year involving disputes over dog defecation.
Police say that sometime around 10 a.m. Sunday, 37-year-old Robert Wright took his dog out for a walk. Witnesses say he got into an argument with his next-door neighbor, 56-year-old Ellsworth Colbert, after Wright’s dog crapped in his yard.
I cannot find any articles stating anyone witnessed Colbert stabbing Wright, but Wright was found minutes later suffering from stab wounds. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An hour later, Colbert was arrested and later charged with second degree murder while armed.
Colbert was a volunteer worker for the D.C. City Council campaign of Kevin B. Chavous, an insignificant point being brought up by most news articles leading to Chavous releasing the following statement:
“The first thing I want to say is that my deepest condolences go out to Mr. Wright’s family. This is an awful tragedy. We’ve lost too many of our men in Ward 7 to random and mindless acts of violence.…

REDDING, Calif. – Here’s an absolutely gruesome story out of California where a man went on a rampage and murdered two innocent men with a splitting maul.
Police say Thomas McDonald got into an argument with friends he was staying with over some missing medication he felt had been stolen. Investigators say a fight broke out that ended with McDonald stabbing Captain Cappy Ricks and Gary St. Pierre with a fork before running outside.
That’s when they say McDonald approached 84-year-old Ralph Torborg who lived a few houses down and was out doing yard work. Torborg had lived at the home for 40 years and died in his front yard after McDonald inexplicably beat him to death with a splitting maul. The beating was so vicious, Torborg’s face was crushed, one of his hands had been cut off and one foot had been partially severed.
But McDonald wasn’t finished spilling blood, however. At a nearby houseboat repair shop he found 54-year-old Karl Bradshaw sitting in his truck on a lunch break. McDonald used the splitting maul to strike Bradshaw in the head multiple times.…
